C-actress Zhao Lu Si’s Potential Next C-dramas The Adventures of Jian Chou and As Beautiful as You Want Reportedly Not Getting Funding to Start Filming
There is new rumors around the next project for C-actress Zhao Lu Si that is worth sharing, it’s more likely than not true and yet another sign of how hard it is in the industry now to get a new project off the ground. Last year she went through a health scare, then breakup with her long time agency, and finally signing with a new bigger agency. There was talk that her agency was lining up a big drama project for her and the two in discussions was xianxia period drama The Adventures of Jian Chou (我不成仙 Wo Bu Cheng Xian or I Won’t Become Immortal) or modern romance As Beautiful as You Want (要多美丽就多美丽 Yao Duo Mei Li Jiu Duo Mei Li). Unfortunately for her, neither drama will be able to get greenlit right now due to funding and investor issues, especially with concerns surrounding Zhao Lu Si’s penchant for dramatics on set. The worry is that she may have problems whether behavior or health-wise, so investors are wary especially with funding harder to come by. Reportedly her team is looking to buy the rights to a big IP novel and find their own investors to self-produce her next drama.
She just needs one big break then the offers will come rolling. I haven’t enjoyed her projects since Hidden Love. All the dramas have been a ‘miss’ for one reason or another. She needs an image overhaul and needs to go back to playing the ‘nice, sweet, charming’ characters she started her career with, since the audience loved those. Her foray into playing characters with more depth has not shown the same degree of success.
She already had a big break. Love’s Ambition was the highest viewed drama last year. If that alone isn’t enough to convince investors to believe in her again, then idk what would. Maybe she needs to stay silent and not say anything controversial.
I can’t compare the success of Love Ambition with her earlier dramas such as Hidden Love or Love Like The Galaxy. I personally think she acted well in that drama, but I didn’t like the character she played so it might have spilled over to my general dislike of the drama in question. This is where I say she definitely needs an image overhaul and a better PR team. I don’t see investors taking a risk on her if she’s unable to complete the drama or has further negative publicity. There are other actresses out there who can deliver without this degree of risk. She should probably do what other actresses in her position do, which is to start small by doing cameos or guest starring in other artists productions taking smaller roles until she can stabilize her image and re-establish herself. It’s a risky move, but can pan out if managed carefully and properly. Look at how Hu Yu Tian was able to make a comeback after the missteps with his image.
There are safer choices available now. Investors wouldn’t take any risks especially not in this market
Its a pity. She was one of the few actresses who is charismatic and had her own flair for acting. A pity that she still isn’t able to get back to filming 2 years after the controversy.
I remember Hidden love drama was rough to gather funds and she pitched in to help supposedly. Seems she has struggled longer than we realize and the last scandal kind of put a nail in the coffin so to speak in garnering support for her future projects. Yes her last drama did well but if I’m not mistaken it was filmed before the scandal unfolded. Seems she needs an image makeover not necessarily based on her looks but character. In other words better Pr. Cause from what I have seen she has blundered a lot from posting and saying things during that scandal that just did not bode well with anyone. But I’m sure the company that bought her out of her old company has a way through it. I mean why would they spend so much to bail her out otherwise. Hope the best for her.
Her fans melt down at anyone who has said she cannot get her projects approved.
She is out. Nobody is going to risk her in this climate, especially as she still isn’t stable as easily seen by her absolutely mind boggling statements during her lives.
There may be some truth to the idea that the industry tends to distance itself from artists who are considered difficult or problematic. I once said something similar on another site, and her fans insisted that she’s simply being truthful. But being truthful doesn’t mean you have to create unnecessary conflict or involve other people in the industry especially those who are lower than you in the hierarchy and have much less power.
But if she really has strong backing from her new agency/Alibaba as others claim, then perhaps she can just ask Ali to fully fund her projects
It’s understandable why some people avoid working with her, given the constant risk of her losing control and derailing the whole production. She might jump on social media to rant, post videos trash-talking everyone, and accuse others of mistreating her. Sadly, that’s the reputation she’s developed. Her fans think she’s the sole force behind the drama production, and she’s cultivated this all-powerful image where nothing happens without her, so they overlook everyone else involved.
I wouldn’t hire any actor with known bad baggage, and even those without it are risky, as issues can surface before, during, or after the production’s timeline.
She can land jobs by teaming up with attention seekers who chase clout and jump on hot social media trends, as these will always open up opportunities for her. She’ll end up working with people who share her style.
Great! C-ent will now be dominated by more boring actresses who are either eyesores or unable to act. lol.
Ah yes, because apparently an actress’s only two qualifications are being visually pleasing to you and performing exactly the way you personally approve of. What a devastating loss for C-ent’s rigorous “random commenter finds her attractive” casting standard.
I’m totally down to see more actresses with unique looks and a natural vibe who can actually play complex, real characters instead of just being interchangeable decorative girlfriends. Give me someone with distinctive features and room to grow over another lineup of identical faces picked just because they look good in promo photos.

Whether she overacts or underacts is subjective and up to the viewers to judge. However, she has several hit dramas under her belt, which proves that her on-screen presence appeals to many people and her acting effectively delivers the story. Her massive popularity is well documented by the success of her shows; that is a fact nobody can deny. lol

Obviously, investors are not willing to take a risk on her, she has continuously shown that she is mentally and emotionally unstable. Who would want to work with someone who is like a ticking bomb?
I like her. Can’t wait to see her next project. Except for her first drama where she played the baddie 2FL, I’ve enjoyed all her other dramas, even Rattan 😹. I’m even enjoying most of her new songs. Go, LuSi!

I don’t think she had any behavior issues on set that would deter people from working with her…except for that time when she was so ill that she couldn’t stop herself from needing the ER. I guess that was sort of a mood-killer. Investments are drying up overall. I’m not surprised a xianxia couldn’t get lit. Hope she can find her return drama soon!
