We may be headed into a global recession soon if not 2022 then perhaps 2023 thanks to rampant inflation, tanking stock market, regional warfare, and of course the elephant in the room the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. There is an upcoming K-drama called The Married Couple is Jobless based on a 2002 article by a writer discussing a couple that quits their jobs and decides to play, i.e. thoroughly enjoy life. I remember 2002 was the aftermath of a stock market correction and for many Asian countries the longer recovery stretch after the late 90’s financial crisis. So to say there was burnout is not an understatement. Now in 2022 we hear about the great resignation and the great migration, people not wanting to work the grind anymore or moving to work remote full time and capture a work/life balance. So twenty years later it seems apropos to make that 2002 essay into a drama and the offer is out for Jung Ryeo Won as the female lead and Yoon Kye Sang as the male lead. They would be great in this quirky role with a life transformation ahead of them. In addition to this drama, she’s also earlier been cast as the female lead in the K-drama Let’s Start the Defense opposite Lee Kyu Hyung and he’s got Kiss Sixth Sense coming out soon with Seo Ji Hye.
