Kim Hye Yoon Shines in Natural and Casual GQ Pictorial After Popular Performance in Lovely Runner
The first sneak peek of K-actress Kim Hye Yoon‘s pictorial for GQ Korea was three weeks ago and now the full spread is out. She landed it after Lovely Runner became a buzzy hit in South Korea and hopefully this placated some of her ardent fans who felt she wasn’t getting promoted properly by her agency in the wake of being in a popular drama. She’s a grown up from a teen actress in the industry for over a decade and I can feel her fans frustration that she always delivers solid performances but hasn’t fully broken out. I think she is navigating her career for the long haul and with it comes taking challenges. She’s definitely going to get more scripts after LR and I hope she picks a great project next.
This fake freckle trend needs to die.
Or maybe not… she looks fresh and beautiful ! ofc our opinions matter but they are just different perspectives!!
I was wondering about it. Like maybe she is freckled and they cover it up with so much bb cream but here they didn’t ? But if it really is fake lol why? So weird
I think her freckles are real – I have them too and they’re scattered kind of randomly like hers (you can see hers going into the eye area too which I doubt a makeup artist would choose to do). Fake freckles tend to be much more aesthetically and carefully placed but if these are fake, good job from the makeup team because they certainly look genuine.
@Royal We
They’re definitely less obnoxious than the usual faux freckles but I think it’s just a good make up artist at work here. Natural freckles are really, really uncommon outside of Europe and the rest of her make up fits the natural aesthetic to a tee – so I think they’re fake.
@Rina, freckles are more common than you think. You seem them among people of other ethnicity/race, but also among East asians (since that’s the group being discussed). I have them and don’t wear foundation so they shine through. My brother has them and no, he doesn’t pencil them in either. (His wife is happy he gets a haircut every 3 months.)
People who watch these types of drama are too used to heavy filter usage/ whitening products, and make up.
It’s speak to a singular beauty ideal more than anything.
@Rina I’m not European at all and still have them, and as Lia said, they are far from rare among Asians, even darker-skinned ones – East Asian beauty and makeup standards (since that is KHY’s ethnicity) might mean they don’t get shown off but they are certainly present, even if makeup and filters mean you don’t see them.
Beautiful lady ! I think that she has the kind of beauty that allows to play in anything . If she was a rookie i would have casted her for the new remake of Goong !
I agree!!!
Pardon me! No one else could replace the FL in the original Goong! That’s one of my favorite old K drama charm, unlike so many boring romance nowadays. LOL.
In remake is okay for me…but I love Original Goong…😍😍. And @cahill and I are still Eun-Hye Yun’s fan… She is still very sweet and beautiful.
Yeah, i’m still her fan and we watch her youtube channel . No matter what others say she is still charming, sweet , pretty, and she is good at everything ! @Hl did you see the little teddy dolls that she made ! I want to have them all ! Sad that she isn’t cast in a drama .
@cahill, yes I saw the dolls! Very cute! I want a loaf of the bread she bakes!!! Looks so nice… Sourdough base but soft crust. So delish!!
I can see it, she has the same girl-next-door charm and natural beauty as a young Yoon Eun Hye.
But remakes of hit kdramas never turn out well so for that reason alone I’d choose to keep her away from the Goong remake. I hope her next project is a success, she has a really good range and deserves all the viewer love.
Jeon Somin and Ha Seokjin actually rocked the characters better than the OG 1% of Something but that drama did not hit big
@Royal We , i agree ,Goong is one of the legendary dramas which were part of Hallyu wave . I think that they are doing a remake for the new generation ! I may watch it as a whole new drama ! Goong is a classic for me as Casablanca or Gilda are !
IMO, she has the classic actress vibe. Super natural with clear and expressive eyes – blank canvas kinda face. She is getting more gorgeous as she matures. And her diction is impeccable.
She has the potential to carve a solid career in both dramas and movies and not just be a popular/trendy actress.
I wish to see her in more non romance content next. I hope LR kicks off her career big time. It’s always great to see hardworking people who are dedicated to their craft make it big.
GQ also posted her What’s in my bag video. It’s so cute that she carries a bag her mom made her. She is a bundle of loveliness really.
@Han – yeah, her beauty is the classically pretty kind that could work equally well in youth dramas or sageuk (she looked so pretty in that Joseon court lady outfit when she was playing a Joseon drama extra in Lovely Runner) and on top of it she is incredibly emotive and can nail that sageuk speech. I really hope her next project gets the ratings to establish her well, she’s so talented and seems like a lovely person.
She’s really beautiful. I wish her stylist give her a more adult and feminin style and less cute one for her red carpet or other events. She always wears a safe white dress.
@Sayaris – I have to agree, she needs a styling upgrade (hair and clothes only) to help her stand out. She’s already gorgeous, but her stylists seem to have no taste and send her out with ‘I’m cleaning the house’ messy low ponytails to brand events.
@Sayaris
She really is so beautiful and could shine in a more mature style. I think she’s going to forever get typecasted if her team doesn’t present her as an adult.
@Rina I agree, she’s great at playing those youthful roles but as Lovely Runner showed, she’s equally great at playing an adult and too good to get stuck playing a high school/college student forever until getting into some forgettable weekender.
She’s insanely pretty and and expressive and really suits a fresh, natural look – the makeup artists on this shoot made a good choice by just letting her natural features shine through.
I finally watched parts of the Salon Drip video. She really looks like Shim Eun-ha in this one! Hair and makeup looks great. Her stylists should stop giving her horrible bangs.
Maybe now with LR under her belt, she will get more budget for her styling from her agency and brand sponsorships. Don’t know how it all works.
I’m so happy to see her get a new photoshoot. She is just so naturally pretty and fresh faced. I hope the success of Lovely Runner leads to her getting some more pictorials and brand sponsorships and, yes, a better budget for her styling as others have mentioned.
I am looking forward to her future roles now LR’s success has given her career a much-deserved boost. I think she can play pretty much anything and she is so hard-working and gracious that it’s so nice to see her perseverance and hard work pay off after her previous agency fumbled her career development.
