So I didn’t watch Mysterious Lotus Casebook when it aired last summer but by all accounts it was a hit and has further elevated male lead Cheng Yi who industry insiders are saying is being bankrolled on big projects to come. One is the period wuxia C-drama Fu Shan Hai (literal title Go to the Mountain and Seas) which is still filming but has released first posters and a teaser of Cheng Yi doing his best wuxia warrior cosplay impression. Cheng Yi always looks and acts the same onscreen for me and this look is just the wuxia in place of the xianxia costuming from Immortal Samsara and Love and Redemption complete with blood on his lips. He definitely looks good tho and if his female lead was anyone other than the mega flower vase Gulinazha then I would have the urge to check this out.

Eye makeup + hair = 👌😬 lol. I usually think he looks super bland, but the puffy eyes and face framing bangs work for him. Haha. I watched a clip of him doing wirework for his fight scenes, and, either he’s really freaking good at choreo or the edit was amazing. Ha. Whichever one, he looked pretty studly doing his stunts.
Whatever role he is in, he always has the same style. It’s really boring.

He is the male Ju Jingyi when it comes to historical hairdo, except it’s those weird wispy bangs. But he can do action, so wuxia is definitely his alley. I like his chemistry with certain actresses.
Styling or makeup area, I would agree but acting, he’s way above her imo ~ he’s not bad-looking but his acting elevates him. I’d take him in a heartbeat over Yang Yang, for example. (Don’t come for me, omg) ~ I think he’ll only have a few years of ‘idol’ dramas then he can transition to more serious fare/projects..

Lol anyone who’s into C-ent and isn’t biased knows that XZ’s fans don’t start fandom fights. That whole thing started because Cheng Yi desperately wants to take the title of second-place liuliang, hence his team decided the best way is to bind his name to THE XZ and get his fandom to post hate comments for XZ everywhere on weibo. After many months, XZ’s fans decided to strike back and oh boy, now we all found out that Cheng Yi’s fandom consists of 1% humans and 99% bots.
His mediaplay about being the top in doing action stunts is really laughable considering the amount of wires and little green men needed to support him in making easy action moves. Zheng Yecheng, who is tons better than him, doesn’t need to use wires and little green men to make the same action moves at all.
Zheng Yecheng is definitely a very well trained artiste. He went thru serious Chinese Opera training which does require them to be agile, sing/speak clearly, trained facial expressions on stage/camera, fit and can fight. One of my most respected Chinese Opera actor is the original Sun Wukong- Liu Xiao Ling Tong 六小龄童

Zheng Yecheng was in Memories Beyond Horizon (2022), I got to know him more there. He was very well likes and respected as a young artiste by Jackie Chan, Francis Ng for his talent and straight forward nature. He does not know how to media play and Frankie said, he is just too straight. He needs to bend more otherwise he can be overlooked. I found that a interesting observation on Frankie’s part. I may not like Frankie very much as he can be so harsh but he is very spot on when observing people.
Zheng Yecheng is a under-rated actor but I think in China, there are many artistes like him. He looks unique but his looks does not seem to be getting him the amount of fans to push him to high liuliang. Which is a shame. He does not look ‘Han’ enough for Cnetizen maybe..

In my experience any fandom that claims they dont start fights are delusional. Do you really think a fandom of millions are all well behaved? 1st picture wasn’t a good look. Too much powder, hair doesn’t suit him and doesn’t give him the ancient beauty look so to speak.
He always looks the same and the overly strong but broken characters he plays are getting repetitive and boring especially when its the “I’m so strong but oh so pitiful, love me!” type that are written for fangirls, and it works. I do think he is a good actor but playing these similar roles makes his acting no longer surprising or interesting, much like Yang Zi.

I liked Cheng Yi in MLC more than I expected. He really brought the unique character of Li Lianhua to life. It also helped that the drama allowed him to look like a human guy in his 30s.
CY debuted many many moons ago yet this ‘upcoming’ drama is still under Hanrui. CY and Hanrui had claimed many ‘hits’ yet CY is still stuck doing the same thing under Hanrui. Idk what his ‘fans’ are waiting for. GLNZ is a special participation n the FL is another unknown small flower which cause dissatisfaction to CY fans.
CY is also seen as ‘UGLY’ by c-nets as most of artist from Hanrui. This was one of the reason why YZ wanted to move out from Hanrui so bad because she’s obsessed to be recognized as ‘Beautiful’.
On a side note, JJY was rumored to transfer to Hanrui after lending her with water bots for the recent weibo activity
