So I’m not sure this is a great achievement to have done but it’s definitely quite a feat. C-netizens are discussing actor Zhang Ling He this week after he’s currently filming a modern C-drama Our Generation but already signed on for his next C-drama starting filming once this one is done. This is not unusual, what is unusual is how often he does this making him deserving of being called a 拼命三郎 Ping Ming San Lang or slang that means hardworking third son or someone who comes from less but works extra harder than everyone. A count of his dramas since 2020 show that since his debut he has filmed 15(!!!) dramas in a 4-year span. His earlier dramas were as second male lead but most of his projects are male lead level in total. He’s keeps improving for me but the problem is not all his dramas/roles are good so my interests in his projects are solely pick-and-choose rather than a must watch. To those who say he is over-exposed, that would only be the case if every drama he makes is a hit and he’s everywhere but so far his misses are more than his hits.
Honestly I don’t see this has being good for him, when mostly his well known projects his second male lead either outshines him or has more buzz than him. He is yet to get a projects where by the buzz is about him and his character.
His character in Kunning Palace got him a lot of buzz
I really enjoy his acting. I love period dramas so see a lot of his work. Hope he keeps doing well and keeping fingers crossed for a super hit for him.
I only watched one drama of his when I wanted to venture into period drama and wasn’t aware he did so many dramas. Even after I figure that out, I wasn’t familiar with his other dramas. Most of his known drama are period pieces, not my type. I also can’t imagine him in modern drama.
Some were smaller guest roles. It’s not quite the same as being lead. He is hardworking but it’s not going to help him for his fans to brag that he has the most. Quantity vs quality.
Pingback: C-actor Zhang Ling He Coined the Hardest Young Actor in C-drama Land After Viewers Calculate He's Filmed 15 Dramas in 4 Years | Parlour News Korea
The title of the article just says “hardest” and I was confused what that meant before I read the article. I was trying to figure out if it meant ZLH was aggressive? Meanest? Coldest? Toughest? Best fighter?🤣
I think for him it might be just a case of strike when the iron is hot especially as others are not even given as vast opportunities as him. They might think earn as much before they get replaced by the next younger batch. I don’t think it’s wrong, same as Bai Lu. You see time and again they are at peak by around 5 years and then they get replaced unless we are talking about top stars.
Knowing how c-actor/actress work always make me feel bad. I mean, most of my Korean fav are diligent enough if they work one A year. Some of them even only have 1 work every 2-3 years and barely have any CF/photoshoot. Sometime there no info about them for several month and suddenly i know they in vacation with friend A or B, or know their info from wangyu restoran etc.
And even recently i know in Korea there a regulation time for filming so they not overwork.
I meand how much c industry pay so they actor/actress Willing to life like that.
There’s nothing to feel bad for them when they are earning hundreds or thousands times more than the average working person. They earn as much as possible during their prime years and they will be set for life owning multiple properties by their thirties. Another reason most of them wants to work continuously is because the competition is so fierce, unless you’re already at the top tier or have strong backings, production teams will stop looking for you if you are out of touch for too long.
Yeah I don’t think it’s so bad doing this while they are still in their twenties. It’s just like how corporate employees work hard in their twenties so they can get promoted or have higher wage
Damn, hearing this make me feel bad for my self instead 🤣
For a while, all I saw in drama updates was ZLH in this or ZLH in that until I was forced to actually look him up to find out who he was LOL. I don’t know if that amounts to popularity or talent on his part to have gotten so many parts, but good for him, I guess? Got to make as much as possible in this cut-throat industry. However, hope he takes care of himself too.
When I saw this, I immediately went to my fav actor wiki to see how many he did in 4 years🤣, 11 drama and 3 movie as main role, 3 drama as guest role. He worked hard damn, I would be so sad when he enlist next year 😩
Enlist?
Maybe Korean? Or Taiwanese? I don’t think c-actors enlist.
Yeah he’s korean, lee junyoung, and it’s so rare to see k actors doing multiple projects in a year, that’s why I love him. Some of his works are love and leashes with seohyun, brave citizen with shin hyesun, may I help you with hyeri, and dreaming of freaking fairytale with pyo yejin.
@Nena
That just reminds me that taiwanese needs to enlist too. Checked the news and this year they extended the enlistment period! I remember the discussion back then, can’t believe they really passed the new regulations
@Yuhyi, how’s extension of Taiwanese enlisting to barely minimal one year surprising? Do people really think 4-month requirement could get a lot of mammas’ boys grow up into capable soldiers that can defend the country against PLA? LOL. Taiwanese men used to serve in the military for 2-3 years. My dad served 3 years in his time and my cousins served 2 years. It was the dumbest president who stupidly reduced the term to only 4 month mandatory. But he is later known as an equivalent traitor to Taiwan and CCP’s stooge anyway.
@Somebody
Because it’s best if the war doesn’t happen. Do you know how many Taiwan’s population is? They will end up worse off than Ukraine if war really happens. They will not get any benefit from war. They’re just tools for starting a war with china.
The right course of action is leveraging their economic power and keeping balance in their relation between western world and china.
@Yuhyi, “tools for starting a war with China..” LMAO. Such a fallacy that has been preached for decades by CCP lackeys. It’s ignorantly naive to consider weakening self-defense a good strategy to deter Chinese aggression and potential invasion. Philippines is a good example. Philippinies has been weak in defense and always relies on the US for their own national security. Just look how China has been so aggressive in the territory disputes and fishing access nearby Philippines since the former Filipino president (who’s a coward and weakling when facing China) terminated military cooperation with the US and closed several American bases in the country. Their conflicts with China is escalating. Philippines eventually had to turn to the international court and the US to step in.
There is no conflict between strengthening military defense and economic power. The current ruling party in Taiwan has been doing great jobs and making significant progress on both parts, while China is in a financial slump and the PLA is riddled with scandals and turmoil. LOL.
Lee Junyoung has magnificent range. He is truly a powerhouse of his age group. Sometimes you can just tell that there are some people who live and breathe the acting and entertainment psyche
Yeah, I watched all his works and can tell he is made for acting! He is naturally talented but his beginning works were a bit unpolished especially his first lead role in please don’t date him, but I can tell he always tries to improve his acting. By the 2022, I think he is finally feeling comfortable with his acting. Despite the script he chose being not perfect, I must admit he chose diverse roles to play. Looking forward to him being in more good works!
Eh. He has powerful backers but in the end, he has nothing to show for it. All these dramas and it all fizzled out. Give it a couple of years and someone else will replace him.
This. He is known as getting pushed and it’s annoying many people, especially when he’s taking roles left and right and not adequately preparing for it or having the acting for it. It’s screaming doing the bare minimum to get his face out there instead of working at his craft. Although it is a lot of work, but it can’t be comparable for actors who train and take the time to get into the mindset of a role.
Apart from his very early dramas…I have yet to finish any of his drama sin the last few years… I sincerely find it hard to connect with the characters he portray… His eyes can emo but not the right emotions.
I really do not see him as a ‘actor’, he is a liuliang- idol due to his looks… but as a actor, he seem too untouchable. I am interested to see how his career path will be… he does reminds me of Wang Yibo. Without romance, he might do better.
You mean zhang linghe? He’s good in kunning. I even liked him in that royal Princess except the other actor playing the 1st lover/eunuch had a more interesting character. Haven’t watched anything else.good thing is he can act. Not terribly good looking and quite tall. But again is he in a hurry?
I have to say in Royal Princess, it was Zhao Jin Mai that made be drop the drama. It was not Zhang Linghe.
As for Kunning, I think he was rumours to be dating Bai Lu in the filming of this drama.. I am wondering if he was able to relax into his role better. Bai Lu is one actress that can make others relax around her. Just a thought, no offends to anyone.
I am staying off Bai Lu dramas for a while…she is definitely over exposed for me. I need a break from her before going back to her dramas in a year…
Zhang Linghe can’t act.
He was horrible in Kunning, bulging eyes, poor line delivery, and failing to bring out the character’s black-bellied nature.
He and Zhao Jinmai were both miscast in Princess Royal and lacked chemistry.
Chinese people panned his acting in Kunning Palace especially his lines delivery. Apparently he sounded funny
I was just thinking he’s overexposed. He got famous very quickly and I hope he pace himself. He’s an exciting new actor in danger of burning out, for me. I’m on his 3rd series, his first 2 forme he did very well although he was in good company. Bow watching love’ rebellion, he seems raw. I don’t which was filmed first, released later since cdrama has bad habit of keeping series for long time. Series has issues but Jing Tian isn’t my idea of a good female lead. That being said I’m excited to watch him but not 3 times in a row! This is bollywood level isn’t it? Is he in a hurry to pay off some debt? Or some deadline he’s chasing?
No wonder he is so freaking skinny, well guess he should work while he has the stamina for it, I personally think 2 dramas a year that have been carefully chosen is enough; quality over quantity
To me, Zhang Ling He’s best role so far was Chang Heng in Love Between Fairy and Devil. He sure has the looks but he doesn’t have the acting skills nor charisma to pull off being a lead actor in dramas. Like others said before, he keeps getting outshined by the 2nd male lead in his dramas where he’s the ML.
He’s been perpetually on the “actors who will explode/become popular” list since he debuted but he still hasn’t really broken out in a role. But I guess he’s still getting steady work because of his backers!
I’ve only seen 3 of his dramas. Maiden Holmes, Story Kunning Place and The Princess Royal. But I mostly watch these shows for the actresses playing the female leads tbh haha. But I think he’s not bad. Definitely has potential. But dang 15 dramas in 4 years…I would’ve had a burnout if I were him. Good for him, I guess haha
I for one am not sick of him yet! I like him in some roles more than others but there are none that I actually dislike…
I still think his best role so far was Prince Qi in his debut drama, Maiden Holmes. Both his looks and acting was fresh compared with other constant but already stale presence on screen. Unfortunately his subsequent roles did not stand out, neither visually nor acting-wise. I don’t think he has no potential. It’s just the products of the projects he has participated in since the debut all look like fast-food mass production. They are forgettable. LOL.
So another Xu Kai? sigh 😞
