Yang Mi and Feng Shao Feng Set for an Onscreen Reunion in Modern C-drama The People I Love
The pivot for the A-list drama C-actresses going to modern female empowerment dramas started with Crystal Liu in The Tale of Rose two years ago and Tang Yan just filmed Lady Liberty. Joining the train is Yang Mi as her next drama is titled The People I Love (Wo Ai De Na Xie Ren 我爱的那些人) and she plays a woman three times divorced and the story follows her romantic trials and tribulations. The casting of one of her most famous onscreen male lead costars Feng Shao Feng in this drama as one of her exes has really amped up the interest level. They starred in Jade Palace Lock Heart 宫锁心玉 almost 15 years ago now and it really catapulted both to stardom so this reunion feels extra meta after so many years and the changes in their personal lives and careers.
The pairing is age appropriate and I hope the behind the scenes gossip doesn’t detract from the drama. I really want to see Yang Mi headline a recent successful project despite the recent mid-to-flop level strings of drama she’s been releasing lately. I don’t think she’s had a successful project since she left her previous agency. I want to see her in a project that would revive her acting career, the same way The Glory led to a career resurgence for Song Hye Kyo’s career. Yang Mi’s natural speaking voice is very high pitched, detracting from her ‘image’ so she often relies on dubbers for her dramas, which is another point to consider.
Both are pedestrian actors although were popular during their heydays.
I wouldn’t say Liu Yifei is the one who started this pivot, Zhao Liying started well before then with Story of Xingfu and Wild Bloom. Not bringing her up to start any drama either, just pointing out that she was one of the first of that age group to start doing more serious female centered roles.
Zhao Liying is not the first. Yes, Zhao Liying is the first to media manipulate that she is the first, but that doesn’t make her the first. Also, she is the first to stomp on other genres that aren’t considered serious, make them sound bad and undervalued. She does all that to make herself looks like she is the best. Nobody has a perfect voice. Yang Mi’s voice is high, but Zhao Liying’s voice is too low and even stuttering. The media and keyboard warriors only pick on weak people. Be it their voice, face, race, weight, etc. It’s only the weak that gets preyed on. Zhao Liying media manipulates about how weak she is but she isn’t.
WHAAAAA!!! I was a huge fan of this pair back in the day. This is a pleasant surprise.
