C-drama The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage May Reunite Dilraba Dilmurat and Wu Lei as the Leads — 92 Comments

    • This is a very popular novel and they should stick to the original version as closely as possible.
Let’s not talk about acting but when it comes to petite actresses, the popular ones are song zu er, Zhao lu si, Zhao Jin mai….Wu lei acted with all three actresses previously. Dylan has not acted with any of them but he was seen to be friends with ZLS. Or just pick a newer actress. Make sure the leading actor is handsome but justdon’t choose Cheng Lei again coz he is already starring in The Star General (from same author)

      • @ying Ying
Yeah investors and sponsors only go for popular actors + actresses. Frankly I watch them too. Pretty faces … why not? Just like I like to watch handsome actors.
        But of course…. It depends.

Like Yang Chao Yue… She is likable but I think she has limited range… anyway it doesn’t matter coz she gets picked for main roles regardless of her lack.

Ju Jing yi….i like her acting despite the critics.

      • Lately, things have changed a bit.

Investors have started to realise that actually it does matter because in the end, the most successful dramas and I mean genuinely most successful, not bought water, did have both good plots and at least decent acting.

DD actually can’t get major investors these days much like many others so called stars in cent. They are all stuck because the financial crisis has reached China too and suddenly real money matters more.

    • It’s just a rumor, same like cheating men must die. They’re intentionally using her name for publicity and will cast their own actors later as happened with jjy as fl in cheating men.

Both this and the cheating men are under xinli productions and jjy is also signed under the.

      • cheating men must die is a stellar production not xinli and her name has been associated with it for a long time and she or her team didn’t refute it for years which shows that he was likely the one for it but later it changed

    • Just a rumor and @ockoala is zls Lover so she tried to hype her name that’s it. Even on weibo people knew it was just a rumor, it’s just koalas wanted to write something about zls so she bring up this rumor.
Me judging goals as zls fan because she always post about zls, brand endorsement, magazine and such but she never do so for other actor actresses.

  1. No to the rumored leads and also no to the suggested leads from Koala. None of them can act.

For a population of over a billion people, are there no new faces with both visuals and acting talent? Why do we keep coming back to recycling the same old faces and pairings? Because of so-called name recognition and a little something called traffic? No wonder C-ent is stagnant.

    • Who are your suggestions for these roles? I just think that if people are going to criticize what others think, then they really should offer alternatives and supportive reasonings.

      • I said new faces with both visuals and acting talent. Since they would be new faces, I don’t them yet to suggest them. LOL.

    • I’d love to see some new faces too, but name recognition and traffic bring in more money and that’s all that matters sadly.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the same faces over and over again if at least the scripts were better and the actors weren’t styled in similar ways in different dramas. I still enjoy C-dramas but you have to admit there are few stories out there with perfect writing from beginning to end. They always manage to F it up at some point.

  2. I thought Wu Lei was taking a break from dramas to focus on film? It didn’t work out as he’d hoped and he’s ready to come back to dramas now? He should know his limits and narrow his area of concentration.

    • What do you mean it didn’t work as he’d hoped? He said he would take a break from dramas “for a little while” to focus on films, and that’s exactly what he did. He has been away from dramaland now for the last two years and have filmed three major films that are all set to be coming out in the theater, starting in August with “Donji Island”. You really should know your limit in terms of your hate. He never said that he was done with dramas and that he wouldn’t be coming back.

    • He did take a break, did Dwelling by the West Lake and Dongji Island. Maybe his drama break is over, maybe not. He never said he quits dramas altogether.

  3. This drama has been using the names of so many famous celebrities for years to pull investments. I’ll laugh if it becomes another Spring Banquet.

      • A drama production that has been releasing info about famous actors and actresses joining the production since 2019 or 2020, but still hasn’t finalize anyone yet.

  4. Noooo! A young man with his auntie! Lol. PLEASE DON’T. I really think he’s trying to avoid top actresses though because of fandom weirdness, so whatever drama he comes back with will be with a lesser known actress so he can be top billed (or whatever the frick they call it in Chinese dramaland). It’s time he returns though. Unless he becomes stronger looking lol, he’s not cut out for movies. Aesthetics DOES matter. Chinese movies are usually ultra serious and grittier. He looks like a boy cosplaying as a man in enough of his roles. Dude’s gotta bulk up just a liiiittle bit. He’s a good actor, but he’s always trying to seem older and his looks just betray him. Lol

    • He’s 26 but there are too many actresses acting with their uncles, and some of them are not even attractive 😭

    • @lu well, your beloved Liu Yuning is eight years older than Song Zuer. LOL. And he’s not even good-looking, so the age difference doesn’t look so bad. At least she looked pretty in TPOB.

    • The directors who want him in their films obviously don’t share your opinion, and I think they’re more qualified to know what roles he should be playing as opposed to fans like you who just love to hate. For example, he was asked to look slim for “Donji Island” to fit the role of a fisherman, not “bulk up”.

    • What’s with this aunty’s scenario mate??? They only have a 7 year age gap. Which isn’t that big considering other drama pairs. Also a young actress can work with older actor but an older actress cannot work with a younger one??? Such a hypocrite people are.

      • I agree that there is a double standard. But in this case, I think it’s because Wu Lei looks quite boyish.

      • Despite age, I find that Wu Lei is versatile enough that he can look both boyish and mature, just depending on the role he’s playing and the styling. Maybe some are just used to these actresses acting with guys who look like their fathers. Wu Lei, IMO, has a more manly and mature face than some actors who are actually a lot older than him(Chengyi, Xu Kai, Chen Zheyuan), and he doesn’t look that much younger than actors like YangYang and Xiao Zhan who are, like, 8 years his senior. I also agree that people are hypocrites and are super biased against women. I’ve seen actors who are 10 years older than their female co-stars, and nobody bats an eye, but if a woman is a few years older, it becomes this huge issue.

    • @LU

You say aesthetics does matter but you forget that when it comes to Liu Yu Ning. You were arguing with everyone who said he wasn’t handsome enough to be the MC of Inferno of Wings. Hypocrite lol.

    • @amaranta @LYF ey girl(s), who the erf are y’all? Lol. Got irked by those comments from the other thread, did ya? Hehe!

Most times, I don’t care about ages in films and dramas, but they at least gotta sell a relationship in their performances! REALLY? Dilraba and Wu Lei had chemistry to you????? HAHAHAH. Please stop playing. No chemistry leaves us with only aesthetics, and our eyes tell us she’s obviously older than him.

Cry all you want about your beloveds lol, but unlike you, I’m not an obsessive fan of LYN to defend him to world’s end….. plus… he’ll just prove me right with each new project he’s in. And as long as he doesn’t stop singing the title tracks of every other drama out there, I’ll be happy. 💁🏻‍♂️

      • Sounds like you’re the one getting irked. You love criticizing others, but as soon as someone mentions your favorite, you’re flipping out. As for Dilraba and Wu Lei not selling a relationship…have you seen the original manhua? I think some of you have this idea in your head that relationships between couples have to be a certain way, but each relationship contains different dynamics…and that of Ashile Sun and Li Changge is not the toxic, tension-filled relationships that you get with other couples, nor is it even supposed to be overly romantic. The two leads have a partnership-type relationship in the manhua rather than an overly romantic one, and Dilraba and Wu Lei did a great job portraying that healthy partnership. They did great with what they were supposed to do with their two characters, and with what they were given to work with. And your eyes told you that she’s older, but my eyes told me that it wasn’t really noticeable at all. I personally didn’t even know there was that age gap between them(I don’t follow Dilraba and didn’t really know her as an actress when I first watched TLB), until I saw people talking about it. I mean, if you don’t like them acting together, just don’t watch. I mean, I don’t care for Liu Yuning at all, but I’m not out there hating him. I just don’t watch his stuff.

  5. Im sorry but I couldnt even feel any bit of chemistry between them in Long Ballad. I dont know how it happens but she always has more chemistry with other actresses/their characters in her dramas instead of lead guy?!

    • Lol you must be the one who did PhD in guessing people’s chemistry. She’s just reserved since her last class with with hjy, caused her a lot of damage as the other party and haters kept on spreading rumors about her also her agency is an incompetent leeches who never defend her and never really give her good resources. She became who she’s because of her beauty and humble personality. She’s quite considerate and loving in real life. I really don’t get this forced hate against dilraba. When other actresses do something people praise the but if dilraba did the same they’ll try every means to bring her down (yes posting a hate comment counts too).

    • I felt she had amazing chemistry with Yang Yang and Vin Zhang

I also quite liked her pairing with Johnny Huang

  6. Everyone has been rumors. I feel like the casting for this drama is going to be the most disappointing. At that moment, many will miss the oldest rumors.

    • Did you read the novel? Perhaps I should give a shot. I’ve not read C web novels for a long while. I used to be an avid reader of the genre until I got bored at some point. LOL.

      • Yes..it was actually my first online C-novel thus it holds a special place in my heart. I have since enjoyed others and there are better writer for me but this novel will always be no.1 just because it is my first love ♥️.

  7. I really wnat a good script, good producer and superb editing skills. So many dramas these days are destroyed by bad editing, not the fault of others. But the lead cast always gets the blame.

  8. Both had no chemistry whatsoever before. I think, Wu Lei will suit the ML, but sorry Dilraba, a no no. I personally prefer the younger actress, such as Zhang Jingyi, Zhou Ye or Zhuer as the female lead.

Dilraba suits a single fighter role. There’s a novel i’ve read some times ago, called Deng Hua Xia. About a female doctor tries to avenge her family’s death.

  9. There’s no way Dilraba can convincingly play the role of a teenager. I don’t think your suggestions are good options either, Koala.

  10. I would be up for Wu Lei and Song Zuer reuniting for this project. And if not this one, then a future project would really be amazing. Also, Wu Lei and Dilraba would be good, too, for a project like RoTCH. That would be my dream project for them.

  11. Wow, the vibes are different in this comment section. LOL. The barricade of rabid fans hasn’t arrived yet to get all worked up because there are users who don’t think their faves fit the characters’ descriptions or that they don’t have sufficient acting skills.

      • Who’s YOUR favorite? We’re all “rabid” as soon as our favorites get criticized, aren’t we? It’s human nature to defend what we each like…but if you’re different, then, pls, demonstrate by telling us who your favorites are.

  12. Book fans need to get a grip. The FL doesn’t HAVE to be 14, they’ll just write her to be older. They aren’t giving this role to a teenager. I seriously doubt this casting happens, either, but it will definitely be a money decision.

  13. Woah,so many reba lovers are here?
Now I want to watch reba doing this show to watch these people burn in their love. Lol.

    • Chemistry doesn’t always means physical stuff and you know many felt that they had chemistry. It’s just at that time people said he was quite young like 18-19 so they opposed him kissing Dilraba and director edited their physical scenes out. Despite the editing many felt their chemistry as till now they’ve their humble cp.

  14. Not zls, can’t stand her baby voice. song zu er would be a good choice. She and Wu lei are both child actors and can actually act.

    • You somehow turn a post about dilireba to zls and song zuer, you’re disgusting

      • To be fair, ZLS was brought up and mentioned by Koala in this post as a potential actress she would like to see in the role. So, yes, this post was also about ZLS.

  15. I have good idea whose fans are actually occupying this comment section.
It’s krama of these people for what is happening to their actual favourite. With her shenanigans, now she is not even capable of getting a decent drama let alone some famous ip for which her fans dying for.

    • Wow, you all are genuinely miserable, the girl has not acted for a long while cause she’s sick, and somehow you still find a way to drag her name to anything, she must be the most popular Chinese actress

      • She was sick due to intense dieting and botox poisoning. Although side effects can happen it isn’t anybody’s fault but she and her friends tried to hype her sickness by marketing it even further was the bad choice. They created all that ruckus just because she didn’t wanted to do “almost lover” anymore. If it was really a company thing then she would have ended her contract with them when she had the chance but she chose to stay? I seriously wonder how come people don’t get suspicious at all? Even nowadays she’s marketing her dog lover image like bringing her dog to almost everywhere and such, she had always been an obnoxious and notorious last with this sweet girl next door persona, who liked hate comments about other actresses, tried to clout chase using xz’s name that’s why many called her a *green tea b**c, which is a derogatory term for girls like her.

    • You are genuinely miserable, the girl hasn’t acted in a long while cause she’s sick and probably won’t for a little longer but somehow it’s her fault that people don’t want to see dilireba play a character, let go of the hate in your heart, it won’t affect her anyway

  16. I like them seperately but they obviously don’t fit together. They had 0 chemistry in their previous drama. But both are gorgeous and if the script is good nothing else matters.

  17. It’s a popular novel and fans will expect it to look expensive and polished. And to pay for it, they’d need actors who can bring in the investments with their popularity and those actors must also be able to fit it into their already-busy schedules and have those free times be aligned. I feel like changing the character’s age or physical build is small fry stuff compared to how dramas would dilute the redness of red flag male leads and change up the endings.

    • Noticeable changes in characters’ appearance or personality work well if the actors have a certain presence and skill to make their performance work as camouflage (?). Mark Chao in Eternal Love is an example. He’s not the Ye Hua from the novel, but I loved his Ye Hua in the drama.

When they don’t fit their roles and are just reciting their lines, it’s a disaster. Something must be saved, there can’t be two wrongs. Lol.

  18. Dilraba is beautiful, and I’ve enjoyed a couple of her dramas. But I can’t imagine her in the role even if they make the character older. That’s because I haven’t seen a fierce performance from her yet, nothing risky that would convince me she can give off the vibe of being unsophisticated without the need for styling. There are actors who achieve this by modifying their mannerisms, she doesn’t have the range. But as other users mentioned, investors don’t care about this lol.

    • They’re just hyping the drama by using her name same as *the cheating men must die* both the dramas are under xinli productions who’ll end the end choose their own artist like they did by casting jjy for cheating men must die.
@ockoala always does this, since she likes zls she tries to bring her name in every opportunity she gets as here she mentioned that this role is perfect for zls.

    • REfreshing dont work for me…. Only a comment is written, the comments are visible. Works all the time since I started. very unfortunate.

  19. why it called acting? you try to portray the character
Dilraba have the skill to do that and she is so beautiful. Why not?
the problem is people start with she is too old to play that Shen Miao
why not giving her a chance to prove her self?

  20. I come from the Balkans/Mediterranean area and her features look like a lot of women here. I personally don’t find Dilraba gorgeous like they say, her eyes and nose are big and her lips are too thin. But I suspect she’s popular to some in the mainland because of the Western features but Chinese heritage.

    • That’s what I’ve been repeating and obviously that irked her rabid fans as well as China zealots. I live in a US metropolis where there is a huge Eurasian population. To me, Raba simply looks like an ordinary girl next door here. But Chinese fans somehow treat her as a stunning beauty. lol.

      • Chinese people like her for her beauty and her humble personality. She’s from a minority group in China, but she never bothered to fake anything. She doesn’t eat pork, she’s humble to the core, she treats her fans nicely, and she’s quite considerate in real life. She also has Western features, so she looks a little different from an ordinary Chinese person. However, there are many other actresses who are similar to her, but they didn’t become as popular. I know people hate her a lot and have many negative perceptions about her, but I genuinely want to request you all—please support your favorites and write something positive about them instead of posting hate about Dilraba.

      • You are oversensitive. I don’t hate Reba, neither does @Shari. I’m indifferent to her. It happens Reba DOES look very ordinary here in the West. People just shared different opinion, aesthetic values included. There isn’t a universal beauty standard. Therefore, it’s impossible for everyone to appreciate or admire only one single type of looks. This world is created to be diverse, not uniform or conformed!!!! Why do you force your own preference into other’s head? Please respect different taste. But you talked as if you were selling a product to us. LOL.

      • @somebody
Then try posting same thing like “oh, she’s just a pretty face for Chinese and isn’t pretty at all” kind of stuff for other actresses too, you’ll come to know how sensitive fans are.
And about Asians liking her isn’t wrong right? You think she’s common in your area but you might find other Asians attractive since they look different same are Chinese too but as I mentioned before if it was just her looks then she wouldn’t have grown this big in China. Other uyghur actresses are there too but it’s her personality that sets her apart.
Okay me using the word hate* might come off as aggressive, but I wrote what i felt.

      • @somebody

Adding lol at the end of the sentence come as aggressive as it shows mockery. I felt like you were mocking her, so I wrote the reply, and pointed the things people like her for. Exactly! Diversity exist people have different preference too, so do Chinese fans. I just pointed out the things people don’t know about her and always misjudge. Well if it came as a marketing then I can’t do anything about it. I know I’m oversensitive when it comes to a certain people, “people like me exist too you know”, considering the WORLD IS DIVERSE. 😀

      • @Sky, yes! Hate is a strong word in English. People here don’t easily abuse this word cuz that sounds very offensive. Besides, what I wrote and what Shari wrote are nothing but neutral in plain English per our observations here in the West. You should not take it personally just because we don’t praise your fav to the moon. Learning to tolerate different viewpoints including those which are not in line with yours is the basic etiquette one should expect in participating open discussions. Otherwise, it may be better for you to get offline cuz you’re gonna come across unfavorable opinions more often than not.

      • @sky, LOL. It literally means laugh out loud that literally means funny that literally means I had a lot of fun in our conversation. That’s it. LOL. Where did you get the idea lol is used for mockery? LOL. I used it all the time with my own siblings, friends, and coworkers too. LOL. Please take some effort to know online slangs better! Otherwise, you’d easily be triggered. LOL.

    • @Shari. Interesting read. Her features are exotic in East Asia, but I don’t remember her being called a conventional or classic beauty in China though.

I find her really pretty. And more so when I compare her with the so-called beauties of her country, South Korea, and my homeland (Japan). Lol. I also thought she stood out in the fashion shows in the, even though there were quite a few good-looking celebrities.

I have always thought that a pretty person is a pretty person wherever they are, but whether there are people who are eveeeen prettier is another matter. LOL. But at the end of the day, it’s quite personal as I have never found actors like Liu Yifei, Zhang Jingyi, Tang Yan, Louis Koo, Dylan Wang to be good-looking, even though they are known for it.

      • You being from Japan really explains your taste.
Asians famously have a fascination with Eurasian mixed faces, but Japan is among the countries with the most Eurasian models and celebrities. I’ve heard some women even want to marry Western men just to have mixed babies 😅

    • Chinese people like her for her beauty and her humble personality. She’s from a minority group in China, but she never bothered to fake anything. She doesn’t eat pork, she’s humble to the core, she treats her fans nicely, and she’s quite considerate in real life that’s why chinese [all(younger/older) generation] like her. She has Western features, so she looks a little different from an ordinary Chinese person. However, there are many other actresses who are similar to her, but they didn’t become as popular. I know people hate her a lot and have many negative perceptions about her, but I genuinely want to request you all—please support your favorites and write something positive about them instead of posting hate about Dilraba.

      • @Sky

You make some good points. I don’t know anything about Dilraba aside from her dramas. If she was famous solely because of her exotic features like I’ve seen some people say, then China would have a lot more popular Uyghur actors than just her.

Hankiz Omar and Madina Memet for example have even more Western-like faces than Dilraba but I barely see them in main roles or high-budget productions.

    • @Sky

Chill out. All they said was that she wasn’t gorgeous. It’s not like they even called her ugly or anything like that. How is that a hate comment? If you can’t tolerate a different opinion, it’s probably best to get off the internet because there’s going to be a lot of those.

      • Honestly, if I had posted the same thing about another actor or actress, their fans would’ve criticized me too. I’m simply a Dilraba fan who tries to support her and share positive things about her. I understand that everyone has different opinions, and I’m not here to attack or criticize anyone. I just want to highlight the good because there are so many misconceptions about her and, for some reason, she gets a lot of hate. I really don’t understand why.

  21. Saying an actress isn’t pretty but not even calling her ugly is a hate comment? Some people need to get offline. Too sensitive for the millions of different opinions that exist on the internet.

    • I agree that some people are too sensitive. Like, there are actresses out there who are talked about as being gorgeous, but I just don’t really care for them because I don’t find them unique in their looks. For example, I don’t think that Zhao Lusi is gorgeous either. I think she used to be typical, asian girl next-door with her round face. Though, at least she looked natural then. Now she’s just like every other copycat douyin makeup artist out there. Somehow, her fans speak as if she’s a stunning beauty, but there’s just nothing really natural or even unique about her looks.

    • Firstly, some of the comments above seemed to imply that Dilraba only has her looks, and that Chinese fans are into her just because of her beauty. That kind of irked me out.
Secondly, if we’re acknowledging that people have different opinions, then I should be allowed to share mine too. The internet is a space for open expression and if we disagree, we can have a respectful conversation about it. What I don’t understand is why it becomes an issue when I defend my favorite, but it’s completely fine when others defend theirs. That double standard doesn’t make sense to me.

As for the moderator, I’ve noticed that many posts about Dilraba tend to highlight negative or unverified rumors, rarely anything positive. That’s why I often feel the need to speak up and clear things out.

I’m sorry if my comments upset anyone but just like others support their favorites, I’m simply doing the same for mine.

      • I get it. Some fans aren’t here on these sites to contribute anything constructive to the conversation. They’re just here to put down and to attack, but they’ll say, “well, it can’t be hate or an attack since I didn’t say “ugly” or “hate”. All I said is that she “isn’t pretty.” They’ll word it a certain way where they can more easily claim that it’s not an attack, and then have the nerve to act all offended. Like, I don’t even know why her looks, eyes, and nose were brought up in the first place when it wasn’t even the point of the article. You have every right to defend your stance. You didn’t start the negativity, so, no need to apologize. My entire post about ZLS up there was just to prove a point. I don’t care for her, but I don’t go around posting negative, opinionated stuff like that about her. Let’s be real here: fans of c-dramas can be super toxic. And the ability to put others down while hiding behind a screen doesn’t help.

  22. @Celeste, saying that someone isn’t pretty isn’t an attack or a hate comment. The actual wording in @Shari and @Somebody’s comments are written in black and white. It’s okay if you want to read between the lines, but that’s your perception and you can’t redefine what others literally wrote based on your perception.

There were one or two comments above saying Reba is beautiful. That is why her looks and facial features were brought up.

This is just a casual entertainment blog. It’d be perfect if everyone could post only constructive and respectful comments but it’s not perfect. If the biggest problem in someone’s life is their favorite celebrity being criticized on some blog by some strangers, then they’re pretty fortunate.

You said you don’t go around posting negative opinionated comments about ZLS but you did
just that right above. Your comment about ZLS to prove whatever point you were trying to make was actually worse than anything @Shari or @Somebody wrote about Reba.

@Sky apologized if her comments upset others and explained her love for Reba and why she replied the way she did. At least she can acknowledge that much, which I think is great.

    • …how is what I said about ZLS “worse”? I also said that she isn’t pretty or unique, the very same thing some have said about Dilraba here. It’s laughable that what I’m saying is somehow “worse”. It’s always “worse” when it’s something about someone that we like, huh? Maybe you should acknowledge that much. You don’t have a problem if someone says it about Dilraba, but what I said about Lusi seems to trigger you. As @sky said, you can say whatever you want, but she is also entitled to her opinions. It’s funny that some of you think you should be allowed to say your piece(and criticize as you see fit), but if someone else wants to say their piece in defense of their stance, they’re somehow too rabid and over-sensitive. Nice gaslighting.

  23. these two cannot act, tf. just good looking. In the past, directors and producers really let those who can act to get dramas but these days, so long that they have a solid fan base, they can get a drama.

      • there are better actress and actors out there who can conveyed what the script asked, these two cannot even cry properly without being cringe, not to mention the facial expression that seems to be in default. Bai Lu, for example, she can portrayed the emotions needed same with Song Zuer, Yang Zi, Zhao liying, yang mi, Liu SHISHI, Liu Yifei and for the actors, so far the very decent one in terms of acting will be Cheng Yi, steven chang and that ml from flourished peony. These names so far can live to the expectation of what an actress and actors should be in terms of acting. hmmh for sure the directors will make sure that the cinematography and the costume will 100000/10 so that the audience wont focus on the acting of these two, on the other hand, their fandom will be happy so long that its them acting.
