First Look at Wang Xing Yue and Xu Ruo Han in Upcoming iQiyi Period Drama Love in Red Dust
If Bai Lu is the hardest working C-actress in the industry doing dramas basically nonstop, her counterpart has to be Wang Xing Yue who has gone from one set to another with barely any gap since about two years ago when he was elevated from main supporting to male lead status. I’m not complaining, even playing similarly described smart/resourceful/capable characters he gives off totally unique performances that make each character different. He just wrapped filming last week for an iQiyi drama titled Love in Red Dust and his female lead is Xu Ruo Han, who isn’t a bad actress but on a purely superficial note her giant teeth annoyed me in her last drama and distracted. But with Wang Xing Yue at the helm, I can put up with a lot since I watched all of The Wanted Detective despite Xiang Han Zhi being a very mid actress the whole entire time. Let’s hope this one has an addicting and well executed story.

Same old, same old. Boring.
I feel like the same about Xu Ruo-han unfortunately and I want to be able to get over it.
If it’s male centric, then I can give a shot. My problem with the Wanted Detective was that it seemed to be female centric with a few eps in, and it’s very boring given a bland FL so much screen time, way more than WXY even the latter could deliver his craft effectively for his character.
I would have similar concern about this drama too if it’s female centric. XRH, like XHZ, is just not convincing as a FL that can carry a drama. She isn’t visually impressive enough, nor is her acting persuasive. She costarred with several actors I like. But I dropped all of them thanks to her weak presence.
It’s so obvious to me these incompetent C actress got their jobs through nepotism. There are plenty of impressive actresses for short dramas who are better than these nepo babes either visually or acting-wise. I just wonder why they are not offered leading roles for long dramas. Rather, boring actors such as Zhou Ye, XHZ, and XRN etc. got job after job.
The Wanted Detective was not female centric. I don’t know where you get that idea. If anything, it is an ensemble piece, led by the ML and the FL. And it wasn’t boring at all, if you like mysteries.
These actresses get these jobs for the same reason WXY does. His agency and backers.
It’s sadly due to their agencies and their backers. XHZ I believe has some industry connections cos she came out of nowehre from the states to act in china and apparently was brought in by xu jing lei. XRH was sadly scouted by jackie chan and is soooo mediocre but she’s in Zhou ye’s agency. tho not promoted as much thankfully. the whole lot of them including zhou ye, zhang jingyi – another connected actress in chen kun’s agency cant act for sh*te but keep getting cast. there are a whole other bunch of actresses im sure off the top of my head who are considered S/S+ but cant act either.
After they wonder why the short drama market is growing. I mean while micro productions are pr us the likes of Cai Xin Yang, Jiang WuHan, Wang Yi Lei and Cao Cai Ya etc… the big market is pushing upon our faces the likes of Xu Ruo Han, Hu Yi Tian, Ao Rui Peng or Zhang JingYi
I’m feeling the same way about The Wanted Detective even though I’m only a few eps in. All the promo for this drama before it aired made it seem like it was his first male centric drama and the first drama he signed on for after his breakthrough with The Double. As it stands with these first few eps, it’s feeling more female centric. A young cast can be hit and miss with the acting which doesn’t help the strong actors since the weak ones give a drama less weight. So far I haven’t seen this drama turn up on any of the other streaming services and Red Dust might suffer the same fate. I hope they get loaned out to the other streaming services eventually. His drama with Bai Lu will probably be the one to get that treatment upon release. Lucky for him, he’s young enough to go through this phase as he builds his career to cement his male lead status. I just wish these drama producers would cast more on skill. I want to see more solid casts in these dramas.
Again, where would you get the idea that this is female centric? Who gets to solve all the crimes in the first episodes? Who gets to play Sherlock Holmes to the FL’s Watson? Who has his own personal frenenemy? Who gets to visit the Emperor and is telling everyone what to do? Who gets the most screen time? JFC, the ML spends tons more time with the FL’s own father, than the FL, even. I honestly wonder what you guys are watching, cause by any objective metric, it is NOT a female centric drama.
It’s an A budget, iQiyi made drama, so it probably won’t be sold / shared. Plus it did well for them, so there’s no need to sell it to recover the budget. In fact, it got upgraded from an A to S because of the ads sales once it started airing.
Yes, it would be great if they would cast for talent, but that’s not going to happen in an idol drama, which by definition is cast on traffic. Though the way the market is going, maybe they’ll get the message that traffic is not king.
No offense but this looks like a really boring show. The synopsis sounds interesting however I don’t think XRH has the acting chops to pull it off. She’s at most a lead in b/c-rate modern shows and she should stay there. In bigger budget shows, she’s probably supporting level only. She has no presence or charisma and I don’t find her goodlooking either. Plus her looks suit modern more than historical dramas.
Poor WXY, but I guess since his agency is tryna elevate him to ML and A+/S status, he will continue to be paired up with actresses like her, yang chao yue, xiang han zhi – basically his leads will offer him no leverage.
Wanted detective was good but i found the writing and vibe a tad boring. XHZ is yes, also a very mid and boring actress though she’s not too bad looking, but kinda brought nothing to the table for WD.
In term of heavily promoted chinese actresses, the 95’s generation the most boring one ever
I’m with you on your assessment of the FL. I didn’t know what exactly it was about her that put me off, but you’ve hit the nail on the head – its the teeth….
You are a parasite, disgusting and annoying person that doesn’t fit the society.
You are being judgey AND hypocritical.
Haters are everywhere. They are parasite, jobless and no future. Before judging others, please ask yourself can you create Human or are you their Creator. Why didn’t you look look at yourself first.Xuruohan is thousands times better than your stupid actresses or your foolish favourite didn’t teach to be polite to others. You disgusting foul mouth. On a note, you can’t never be like Ruohan not even your shameless actresses. RUOHAN HAS BABY FACE..A TIMELESS BEAUTY, TALENTED, OUTSHINES, AWESOME, NOBLE, INSPIRATIONAL AND ETERNAL APPEARANCE GIRL. PLEASE GO HAVE A FUTURE BEFORE IT TOO LATE
People are so nasty and awful. You’re all fighting for nothing.
That’s why I believe China should have focused on keeping its production within the country. While Chinese culture has its own flaws and bring out negative traits in people, it becomes even more complicated when individuals from other countries with far more challenging cultural aspects contribute their negativity.
I really feel bad for Wang Xing Yue. I’ll always regret that Yu Zheng got his hands on him. Hopefully, Yu Zheng can break his habit of ruining the careers of his signed actors, especially for someone like Wang Xing Yue, who doesn’t deserve such treatment.
This is the first time I’ve heard someone make fun of XRH’s looks. She’s gorgeous and looks so much like Suzy. She’s got such a charming way about her, I wish she were in better productions.
