Tencent Cooking and Time Travel Period C-drama Yummy Yummy Yummy with Li Yun Rui and Wang Ying Lu Ends with Viewer Disliked Ending and 5.9 Douban Ratings
This is one of the fastest runs in recent C-dramas, Yummy Yummy Yummy premiered on October 9th and in less than two weeks has wrapped its run. The cheeky and childish title notwithstanding, the reviews for the drama skewed positive in the beginning, thanks to sending an entire restaurant running family into the past and using the food element to tasty finesse. Leads Li Yun Rui and Wang Ying Lu were deemed to have good chemistry and each brought their own charm to their characters, he was restrained yet alive and she was boisterous and sweet natured fun. This isn’t a drama to focus on the whys-hows but still a steady narrative would be necessary and reportedly the second half took a downturn with some frustrating plot elements, but nothing compared to the outpouring of anger at the ending. Yet another time travel drama bites in on sticking the landing, sigh. The opening Douban ratings are an anemic 5.9 as viewers rejected the drama’s clunky dessert portion despite loving the appetizer.

Both Wang Ying Lu and Li Yunrui did a fabulous job! Most of the supporting cast were also immensely likeable and watchable. But the narrative was a definite weak point and just caused the whole drama to collapse into itself. Still, it had some genuinely funny and adorable moments. Worth a watch with a liberal dose of the fast forward button!
This drama actually good and fun to watch in the beginning, they even reach 26000 heat index.. but I am agree with you (and probably majority of the viewers), the second half kinda frustating and like.. I never felt this bad for a character to live a long life.. at least make him die young or something T_T
It’s one of the reasons why I intensely dislike time-travel plots. In the vast majority of them, in the end, either logic will fail the plot or the plot will fail logic with both scenarios being highly dissatisfying. It’s just not worth the time watching them.
For a light hearted drama the ending was depressing and made little sense. Both were the only ones that remembered the past, but he didn’t actually go back like her? He only shared her dream? And his past version lived out his life alone and missing her. So they are different people. They could have balanced that with showing more of the present, but they didn’t.
Right indeed
That is such a shame… But I will watch first half next week…
My optimized suggestion is to watch till about episode 18. Then skip on to watch episodes 28-31 because the resolution IS mostly satisfying and they bring the cute back! Those in btwn 10 episodes don’t add much in terms of plot, just a lot of unnecessary angst. Then completely ignore the ending episode.
THANK YOU!!!! That is so helpful. I will definitely skip ending. I dont understand such a ending…
The ending was ok though. Wishful hoping these genre dramas would do better with their execution but the time travel ban still has not been lifted. Since there are a million to one novel and webtoons with this genre and they love making adaptations of such material we will see this problem time and time again. It truly is a pity that they still ban this. 🤦🏻♀️ Bit this drama had a lot of funny moments. R the food as well looked yummy.
The plot is silly and boring. As much as I like LYR and found the FL a solid actress, the childish narratives drove me insanely bored LOL. Besides my own fav, I like a few other C actors but found most of them had only one hit so far that I was able to finish. I wonder if they’d become just one-time fluke once they continued to take crappy projects one after another. Zhao Lusi is perhaps the only exception with at least three popular dramas. That’s star quality I’m rooting for. Not her fan though, I’m just digressing by so much disappointment at promising actors after their breakout dramas, e.g., Wang Xingyue and LYR.
Why bother end if the drama is entertaining you in your chaotic or boring life ….but because of the last episode, you are ignoring the other episodes and your comments would effect the drama’s ratings …so don’t judge like that…a drama is to give us happiness, did you get or not when you were watching 33 episodes, why weight last episode so much that the drama is sinking….it is fantasy drama, can’t mix reality to it….I was laughing, felt flutters, saw husband listening to his wife, husband regretting treating his wife badly and advised other men to not do the mistake, family bonding, food, etc gave me happiness and smile on my face, so I give 💯 to this drama
