Period C-drama Gui Liang Chen Now in Talks with Liu Xie Ning for Female Lead Opposite Male Lead Li Yun Rui
Oh this is the sigh of relief type of good news I was hoping for. Last month C-ent casting was discussing Li Yun Rui and his next C-drama the period work Gui Liang Chen (归良辰) adapted from a novel and the female lead being discussed was teen actress Ai Mi. But like all C-ent castings the rumors can go multiple rounds and now a new female lead is in talks with Liu Xie Ning. I thought she was kinda a talentless pop star turned actress but I rather liked her as the antagonist in The Double, she was surprisingly good in the role. If she’s getting a big female lead role leveling up I good with giving her a shot and definitely like her age appropriate pairing with Li Yun Rui way more than him with Ai Mi.
My first introduction to Liu Xie Ning was through the short drama A Night of Love with You, where she stands out as a very pretty anti-heroine. I then enjoyed her range in larger productions—from the proud yet sensitive princess Kunning Palace to the antagonist in The Double, in fact, I thought her look was more fitting to play the transmigrated noble daughter.
However, the role that left a truly deep impression on me was her cameo in “Lady Revenger”. She portrayed a smart, sensible, brave and tragic character. That performance left me hoping for her to get more significant roles. But I guess it must have been the Perfect Match role that gave her this opportunity. So I wish she could get this lead role.
“Night of Love with You” (with “eldest princess on top”) was one of my early introductions in short drama univers back in 2022. I really liked her character because it changed from the usual “cute and pure ingenue” archetype that had been dominating the mainstream industry -especially it was at the height of “Can Lang Jue” popularity overshadowing everything everywhere with the cute FL Xiao Lang Hua.
She is a good actress. She will be suitable for this role. I am so glad it is not the young Ai Mi… Give her some coming of age dramas..
Oh thank god. There’s actually a chance I’ll watch this now.
Better than LYR pairing with some familiar but boring names such as Bai Lu and Xu Rouhan etc. LOL
Bai Lu is still good just so darn type casted at this point that it is sadly getting old but China seems to dig her type casted cause she has been doing well regardless.
I liked her in Ace Troops and One & Only although that the latter was pretty depressing. But I found her the same actor Bai Lu in the following dramas one after another, not the heroines whose stories she was supposed to sell convincingly.
She was also good in “Five Blessings” as well
She’s pretty solid. I’ve seen her in a couple of things and she gives different vibes in each ones that you can’t tell it’s the same actress.
I was attracted to her over Bai Lu in Story of Yanxi Palace. Glad she’s moving on to lead roles now!
