Award Winning Veteran Top Actor Ahn Sung Ki Passes Away Days After Falling Ill
The 2026 new year is off to a sad start in K-ent as today January 5th in South Korea it was confirmed that award winning veteran actor Ahn Sung Ki has passed way. He was 74 years ago and in okay health, but fell ill and into a coma five days ago after reportedly choking on food. It is likely that his funeral will be star-studded, and many of Korea’s top male actors are said to be pallbearers for him. He’s been too many movies and dramas to count and his face will immediately be recognized in Korea and even abroad since the proliferation of the Hallyu wave. Rest in peace to this great actor and by all accounts a great man as he’s very well loved and respected within the industry as a person with character.

Ahn Sung-ki is one of the most respected actors in the industry. He began acting at only 5 years old. His entire career has been in Chungmuro, with over 130 films. He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019.
