Zhang Wan Yi and Shen Yue Cast in Modern Family C-drama Adapted From Novel
A new C-drama got cast this week with filming expected to start after lunar new year so end of February or early March, It’s titled 但愿人长久 Dan Yuan Ren Chang Jiu and is adapted from a novel, and shares the name with a famous classic song by Teresa Teng. The leads will be Zhang Wan Yi and Shen Yue, and unexpected pairing to say the least. He’s big push for A-list male lead with many back-to-back dramas feels like it’s over and not sure if he made it or not. Personally I like him but do see the criticism of his limitations which is a very rigid style of acting. She is solidly B-list these days but works consistently and is always warm and sweet onscreen. But in terms of buzz these two alone or together isn’t going to generate it lol, so hopefully the drama will deliver on the heartwarming modern period romance with family unit story that so many viewers love.
Love him, don’t know her. So maybe I will give it a try if the sorry is interesting.
Personally I think this is a good step for Shen Yue’s career. Got to know her from Meteor Garden (though silly, it was highly entertaining 🤭) and she’s a constant on the VS circuit (I watch more variety Chinese shows than dramas). She’s sweet and funny and always gets along with everyone, and they all always seem to like her and end up being friends, so I’m actually excited for this genre expansion for her. The last drama I watch of hers was Smile Code with Lin Yi, and although I found the start a bit slow, it really picked up and it ended up being a really good drama for me. So I do think she has potential. Although I also like Zhang Wanyi (from watching Are You the One), his fans have been a bit too aggressive in this casting. Shen Yue won a couple of awards for a similar genre (slice of life) last year for Six Sisters, so I do believe she has what it takes to portray a more in depth character other than idol dramas. Though the pairing is unexpected, I’m excited to see how this will develop 👍🏻
