Rainie Yang Belts out 27 Songs at her Glamorous Sold-out Solo Concert in Taipei

Rainie Yang worked non-stop as an actress for so long (a decade really) that its been really odd for her to focus solely on her singing career these past two years without a single acting project in the mix. She hasn’t acted since Drunken to Love You in 2011 and doesn’t have anything lined up as far as I’m concerned. I’d say she’s earned her ticket to move to the big leagues and hit up movies, though I will miss her exuberant smiling presence on the small screen when that happens. Rainie held a solo concert in late Marcg called To Set Off For Love (with her character of Cheng in her Chinese name Yang Cheng Lin taking place of the character for Set Off) at the sold out Taipei Little Big Egg Arena and belted out 27 (!) songs over three plus hours for her ecstatic audience. She changed 12 outfits and unleashed an eye-popping display of acrobatics, from singing while dangled upside down to dropping from the ceiling in some barbed wire contraption. For her encore performance, she sang from inside a glass filled with water and then dove under for 20 seconds of holding her breath. Girl sure knows how to put on a show, and afterwards Rainie confessed she was so exhausted she could collapse right there. I’m actually worried about her voice, her vocal cords must’ve taken a beating to sing for so long. A bevy of her famous friends were in attendance, including her former drama co-star Mike He (sporting some seriously bad hair) as well as boy band JPM which includes Rainie’s current rumored boyfriend the much-younger Prince. The thing with Rainie is that when she does something, she always puts in 120%, which in the acting world leads to those who think she overacts (and she does at times), but I’m not sure she can over-perform or over-sing when it comes to putting on a show at her concert. Check out the cool pics below.

Attending the concert were her former co-star Mike He, as well as rumored boyfriend Prince along with his JPM group members.

  1. Wow! Never really liked Rainie… But that seems like a pretty cool concert. So many outfits and going underwater?! She must be tired as hell.

  2. Aww, I have a soft spot for Rainie after Devil Beside You (I til this day have not watched Meteor Garden… attempted but THE HAIR! sighhh). It seems like a pretty cool concert she put on! I’m not very familiar with her music career except for songs that were in her dramas lol.
Mike looks tired and you sorta see him aging in those pics… he’s still handsome though. Maybe it’s just the hair.

  3. Omg rainie looks like an angel! I’ve always thought she was beautiful but the short hair just makes her glow. And she absolutely doesn’t seem like she aged at all, no? I’m not a very huge fan of her voice, because like Ariel’s – I find it a little too ‘sweet’.

And love that Mike attended. I’ve always admired their friendship. The taiwanese industry has so many of these long lasting friendship like them, Ariel-Joe, Ming Dao-Qiao En, etc. It’s very touching. But goodness me, mike seems to have lost a lot of weight? Or is it just me. He looks beat, and I really think he should enlist already. Its about time – he’s the only one who hasn’t out of the A-listers. MD just finished and Joe should be out soon!

  4. i am so proud of he,r i’ve been her fan for over ten years now, and it was delightful to see her frow so much in her career, but damnit rainie, give music a break, i miss your acting!

  5. Wow! 27 songs just singing in the shower could hurt your voice!
    Rest, Rainie, rest!

You know I watched a few episodes of MG – with this “Who IS this girl?” feeling before it clicked. She looked soooooo young. Especially when she was in any scenes Ken. Finally, there was something she said and I was like “Joseph Chang! Drunken to Love You! Yes!” I coulda just checked Dwiki right?

  6. Yes, you can overdo singing. She always makes these OTT expressions when she performs, it’s like she cant trust me to feel the song’s emotion myself so she is pushing me there.
That aside, I do love quite a lot of her songs. And…QING FENG! <3

  7. I have liked rainie yang since meteor garden. I would like to see ken zhu and rainie yang do a drama together so they can finish what they started in meteor garden this looked like one of those once in a lifetime concerts I’m hoping she does not wear herself out trying to do concerts like this too many times

  8. Is that Jimmy Lin playing the piano?? It really looks like him and I really want to know!!!
Rainie definitely puts a lot of effort in everything. She’s awesome.
