Cute idol boys and the cherry blossoms of spring certainly make for a pretty picture, and the glimpse of Seoul landmark Namsan Tower in the backdrop adds even more feels. SM artists Choi Siwon and Donghae of Super Junior along with the label mate Changmin of DBSK were out with two more friends during their vacation day from military service. Siwon, Donghae, and Changmin are all serving their MS with the promotions squad of the Seoul metropolitan police force.
They are conscripted officers and will be performing at events for the police force, which is basically the same as serving in the entertainment divisions of the various military branches. It’s a better use of their skills if you ask me, I imagine them as bumbling police officers if they actually served, and in the army they would be the rookie soldiers getting yelled at. Yoochun is also serving as a conscripted officer in the Seoul police but he’s on desk duty. It’s nice to see an update from the enlisted boys who still wear their idol aura like a comfortable mantle.
I’ll never understand why idols fear going to military so much. After those first few weeks of training they can just choose to serve in the entertainment part of the police force or whatever, basically that field that was created for special snowflakes like celebrities, continuing doing what they usually do, maybe with even more freedom in SM idols’ case. Not to mention they can still release music while serving and sing to different events where fans film them and make sure they remain relevant by reminding everyone who they are everywhere on the internet.
They can release music but they are not allowed to promote so it’s hard competing with promoting artists. I don’t think they are allowed to record music during their break so music released will have to be recorded before enlistment so you have to predict it will sell well with the competition. Also when they are away from the army new groups come out and other groups gain popularity while they get old and some fans forget them or mature out of fan girling. That’s why it’s much better to enlist while young. Actors are better off too because all they need need is skill and the right drama and they are back at the top.
Koreans view conscriptions as a serious national duty.
Hyun Bin and Yoon Shi Yoon were admired for getting into the marines and Lee Seung Gi recently got all the praises for getting into Special Forces.
So I can’t understand why so celebrities seemingly healthy chose to be assigned to police entertainment unit. Ok if they serve like any other regular conscripted police. But what’s the
deal with promotion unit?
Or maybe the celebrities do not get to choose the assignment?
Yeah ask rain, boom, seven and ssangchu
These GQMF…I wanna see a cop drama with all of them in uniform.
