Veteran Character Actor Yum Dong Hun of The King 2 Hearts, City Hall, and Beethoven’s Virus Passes Away of Illness at 55 Years Old

K-ent is reporting sad news this weekend with the report that veteran actor Yum Dong Hun has passed away from illness at 55 years old. He was more famous for his character acting as frequent K-drama viewers would absolutely recognize him on sight even if not knowing his name in real life. Without such breadth of strong character and supporting actors the expansion of K-dramas and movies would never work since projects can’t just rely on male and female leads. He was most memorable to me as the cowardly and selfish Mayor in City Hall, which was the drama that turned me from a casual viewer to wanting to write about K-dramas, and coincidentally it was his first drama as well. Since then he has over two dozens dramas and a dozen movies under his belt and will be remembered for his impeccable character acting always disappearing into the role as needed. Condolences to his friends and family.

  1. I certainly remember his performance as the foolish mayor in City Hall. RIP.

Our love for kdrama has A LOT to do with side and veteran characters, who more often than not enhance the whole viewing experience, and in some cases make poor drama watchable.

  2. So sad , City hall was one of my fav dramas and his role was so funny . As a veteran kdrama watcher , i admire all theses actors , without them dramas can’t be produced They are incredible actors who should be more respected and be more paid . In legal, medical, thrillers …dramas, all the ones who play the victims , the patients , the killers, … deliver great performances . But only the leads get awards, recognition . So RIP and thank you for all the good performances .
