Park Kyu Young Announced as the Female Lead of Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2

Well way to harsh the female lead’s thunder with a later announcement or perhaps giving her the solo spotlight now. Netflix has announced that the female lead for the second season of Squid Game will be Park Kyu Young, joining the returning four big names from the original drama as well as another four male lead level new additions all confirmed earlier this week. It was weird not to see an actress in the original announcement as the game didn’t care about gender or ethnicity and just selected poor at the end of their ropes contestants and tossing the two genders together created more fun as men and women didn’t think alike. This is a total leveling up chance for Park Kyu Young but first she’s starring in the soon to be released thriller Netflix K-drama Celebrity.

Park Kyu Young Announced as the Female Lead of Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2 — 4 Comments

  1. YAY! I’ve been a big fan of hers. I think she can really fit well with the vibe of the series. Hope this role really really boosts her career, although it seems like she’s growing in her career at a nice pace already.

  2. I’m just disappointed in this abrupt announcement. No poster teaser or video promo. If she is officially one of the main cast, this proves that the show really didn’t care for any female cast or have an importance. While the guy got all the grand announcement, this felt force trying to die down the backlash. It would have been nice to see another batch of diverse cast w/ the same level of online promo.

    • Yeah this casting seemed like an after thought. They obviously can’t pretend to not notice the backlash of the all-male lead cast so this looks like a last minute casting decision. And if it wasn’t, the way they made a big deal of the male cast’s announcement while the female lead only was announced the same day of the script reading shows that this is the men’s drama.

    • the exact same thing happened to the males cast (eg: Im Siwan) tho. The lineup was leaked earlier than the original release date.

i don’t know why Koala wrote this post cuz the official statement isn’t confirmed yet (although we know it’s the same as confirmed). At least Mrs Ooala should wait until the respective companies confirm it first before releasing this post
