iQiyi Premieres Modern Day Garment Industry Drama Rising with the Wind with Gong Jun and Zhong Chu Xi

A modern day drama dropped today on October 30th with iQiyi premiering Rising with the Wind rather abruptly without much promotion. Starring Gong Jun, Zhong Chu Xi, and Wu Xuan Yi, I couldn’t tell when I first saw some stills of Gong Jun what era this drama was set because he looks like he stepped right out of the turn of the century Republic era. But alas it’s a modern day drama set in the garment manufacturing industry and involves company survival and corporate intrigue and takeovers. With low expectations and no anticipation this drama could be a rather pleasant watch.

  1. 0.36 ratings and dropping lower today. Web cast even worse. He produces flop after flop. It says everything about how things work in China. It doesn’t matter if you are a shit actor and your works fail as long as you have the right people backing you.

    • I agree that Gong Jun is a shit actor. Ratings are dropping probably because the plot is meh and Gong Jun is not compelling enough to keep the audience vested. You can have backers and spend a lot on publicity, but if you can’t captivate the audience in some way after watching your performance, it’s on you. I’ve seen dramas become hits – even by little known actors, and inexpensive production, simply because the plot or acting is charming. Good examples include Ancient Detective, short dramas like Familiar Stranger, and even the inexpensive produced Imperial Coroner. Gong Jun’s acting often puts me to sleep, I rely more on the chemistry created by his costars to watch his work. And if he isn’t being cast by strong or traffic actors, what’s the point in watching him? In fairness to him, it’s early days yet. The drama still has a chance to make a decent showing by his fans.
