Period War and Politics C-drama Eternal Brotherhood with Yang Xu Wen, Liu Yu Ning, and Zhang Ming En Premieres to Decent Reviews But Low Buzz

So last week the on the shelf for three years period C-drama Eternal Brotherhood (Zhi Chuan) finally aired on Tencent in a typically slow period for C-ent which is right after the lunar new year crush. The drama is a short 24-episodes and is a full blown bromance plus war drama with the three male leads Yang Xu Wen, Liu Yu Ning, and Zhang Ming En trying to survive and thrive in a political and actual battlefield. The reviews are decent with solid directing, a fast script, and the three male leads having good onscreen presence and chemistry as well as interesting characters. Check this out if it looks interesting to you.

  1. The murderer, the ugly and the cheater. Lol can’t get a better casting than this. Wtf were they even thinking filming with this cast and even broadcasting this? You get cancelled for tax evasion but murder is fine. It’s all about the money yea. You’re screwed if you try to cheat money off of the Chinese government but if you can pay them off to cover a crime it’s all good

    • I am sensitive about Yang Xuwen too, although it is a fundamental principle of democracies that respect human rights that noone is guilty unless proven so. So I would like to think he is innocent, but still, I feel awkward watching him.
Having said that, cheating is unsavory but not a crime, and neither is being ugly or being accused by bullies of being ugly.

    • But Liu YuNing is popular and handsome and rarely seen in the drama and he has almost no appearance in the other episodes, he should not be one of the main leads just a support cast.

  2. I have to say, iQiyi didn’t bother promoting this drama, if it weren’t for rumors on Reddit, I wouldn’t even know it was released. For the first week of its premiere I literally had to search for the drama on iQiyi before I could watch it. At least, now it is listed with other titles. It’s an interesting drama of good quality, and good acting, but dark and intense. I feel it needs all of my attention when watching it, so my progress is a bit slow as I’m also watching other dramas at the moment including White Cat Legend that I’ve grown to enjoy very much. It’s a brotherhood drama as well, but much lighter fare.

  3. I don’t know if it’s actually short. I think I read somewhere that it’s actually 48 episodes but because of the new rule limiting dramas to 40 episodes, they are going to split it into two “seasons” of 24 episodes. I don’t think iQiyi has high expectations for this one, so there’s not much fanfare and they don’t want to invest additional time and money into editing it down to 40 episodes (or maybe it’d badly affect the story telling).

    • Your comment explains something I was curious about.

When iQiyi first released the drama it was called “Eternal Brotherhood”. This week I found that the name had changed to “Eternal Brotherhood 1” which indicates that it would have a second season. I wasn’t sure if my interpretation was correct, but your comment clarifies it.

      • I agree, I noticed the change too. I did not expect there are 2 seasons initially.. @Jia, you have answered my little question in my mind too.

@Jia, Xoxo, would you both call this a idol drama?

      • I don’t think you would call this an idol themed drama. It’s very dark themed and heavy; just because the lead actors are young and handsome, does not necessarily mean they are categorized as idols. If anyone else knows better, please correct me. Thanks!

  5. I watched it and think its good There are lots of war strategies and the actors are good looking .
I will wafch season 2 when its out.

Watch it with an open mind and lets not cliud it with judgement on their personal lives.

I find it strange that some get
    So personal and judgemental…

Lets appreciate a film for uts sake ..nothing else..imho

  6. I would love to see the pictures of these people calling that actor ugly, although beauty can be subjective, he is certainly not ugly. He is an excellent actor who worked hard to make it later in life on his own.
I find 99% of the time those calling him ugly are nothing to write home about. It’s grotesque behavior to bully someone because of their looks. I imagine most of those who do so live in glass houses, if you know what I mean 😏 Yeah, I Said it. I have never witnessed any demographic get more bullied for the way they look by neitizens other than Asian men. They cannot age, they cannot gain weight they cannot struggle…if their skin is not perfect people complain. News flash; most Kdrama and Cdrama actors, if not all, their visage goes through post editing production. They also use special lighting so their skin looks perfect.

I would love to see the people calling him ugly post their picture online to be judged. These women will be the first people to be crying when people call them ugly.
This is not a beauty contest, but a show, and a dang good one.
Westerners and Chinese people seem to be the most comfortable letting this man know he is ugly..but upon further investigation they are not attractive themselves..embarassing. Whenever I see this I will call you out. You can say what you want, because that’s your right but you have no right to bully anyone. SHOW ME YOUR PIC! LETS POST IT ONLINE TO HAVE THE MASSES JUDGE YOU.
