Queen of Tears Hit Status Heightens Excitement for Top Actor Song Joong Ki’s Cameo Reunion with PD From Vincenzo and Former Costars Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun

There is going to be so much love going around behind the set when Song Joong Ki makes that announced cameo in tvN drama Qeen of Tears. His presence is three fold, the PD also directed him in his hit drama Vincenzo and he has worked with female lead Kim Ji Won twice in Descendants of the Sun and Arthdal Chronicles as well as been there in a cameo role opposite Kim Soo Hyun in both their scene stealing turns as the younger generation in Will it Snow for Christmas. I hope hope hope his cameo is perfectly slotted in both in plot and in onscreen presence with the two leads, but screenwriter Park Ji Eun is pretty good at writing prior big name costar cameos such as Suzy in You From Another Star, Jo Jung Seok in Legend of the Blue Sea, and Kim Soo Hyun in Crash Landing on You.

  1. If there’s one writer who writes cameos well, it’s Park Jieun. KSH himself had such a great moment in CLOY but also, Go Ara, Lee seunggi JYP, Dara, SNSD girls were all fantastically utilized in Producers. Song Hae and JYP in particular were amazing. Even OJS’s cameo in ep 1 was so hilarious and adorable.

I’m sure SJK’s moment will be fun. I’m also really hoping we just haven’t heard it yet but that JJH is doing a cameo too. KSH mentioned his “Jihyun Noona” in an interview last week and it reminded me just how great they were/still are together. What I’d not do to see Do Minjoon and Cheon Songyi in one frame 😍

    • They’ve already completed shooting as of the end of last month. But really hoping they’ve been keeping a JJH appearance under wraps too lol. LOTBS is sadly the only PJE drama that KSH hasn’t been a part of since they started collaborating in MLFTS. If we are creating a wishlist of appearances, I’d love love love a Lee Hyun Woo one. He’s a good friend of KSH’s and they had a bomb of a bromance in Covertly Grandly. Inspired so much shipping LOL. Plus with his real name matching KSH’s character name is giving me the tickles.

    • I am hoping for an IU cameo since she was the original choice for female lead (Kim Ji Won is fabulous as Hong Hae In and I think she matches with KSH more). But I just love the special friendship KSH and IU share. He was hilarious when he shouted on top of his lungs requesting for a song during the encore segment at her concert.

      • Would love an IU cameo especially after that adorable selca he posted of them together. Of all the DG grads, who’d thought it would be KSH & IU who’d form such a great bond and lasting friendship? Also, while KJW is doing great with amazing chemistry with KSH, I disagree that she matches him more per se. He has great chemistry with all his leading ladies including IU in Producers. If she accepted this role, no doubt she would have had just as much chemistry with KSH. Not that I wish she did because I love the Hyunwoo and Haein we have today! They’re perfect.

If not a cameo, hope they pair up soon in a drama where they get their happily ever after. I feel like we haven’t yet seen this pairing’s full potential!

      • I loved Producers and thought they had great chemistry as well, but seeing that there a lot of kiss scenes in QoT, I don’t think IU would be up for that. They’re both professional actors but IU seems quite conservative when doing kiss scenes and she’s also in a public relationship so they’d probably cut that back.

      • Anna – oh good point about the more intimate scenes. It didn’t even cross my mind but yea, I think cutting it down would’ve done such a disservice to the drama. KJW’s been great and her chemistry with KSH is unreal which is the biggest selling point. It worked out for the best no doubt.

Let’s hope for a different KSH-IU project in the future!

    • Producers was SO good, I rewatched it while waiting for Queen of Tears and it’s just as good nine years later. First two episodes were a bit shaky but after it became a drama about a variety show and not a variety-drama, it really found its feet. It’s possibly my favourite PJE drama though Queen of Tears has potential to catch up, the cameos were 10/10 lol. The Song Hae and JYP cameos were amazing, the first was really funny but moving and the JYP ‘buffering’ one was just pure laughs. Go Ara as Cindy’s rival also worked really well in the context of the character’s storyline and knowing that irl Go Ara also debuted at 13. And oh yeah the Jang Hyuk cameo as Gong HYo-jin’s ex who was all ‘yeah she likes Ra Joon-mo lol’.

I enjoyed Vincenzo so much, Song Joongki with this PD was magic, I can’t wait to see what the cameo is like but I want to be surprised by it lol his Little Women cameo was super short and I prefer it when these things are a surprise and we don’t know which episode it’ll be in or see leaked stills beforehand.

    • I get your point but disagree. I think it depends highly on how they’ve been written in, and their star power vs the leads star power. No one’s drawing away attention from the leads of this drama. That’s for sure.

      • I agree with you! I love fun cameos when they’re done well. I loved Choi Ji Woo and Kim Soo Hyun’s cameos in Crash Landing On You a lot 🙂

I also swooned hard when Kim Soo Hyun showed up in the last scene of Hotel Del Luna.

      • @Soph CJW’s cameo was pretty epic. There was great build up too. So well written within the drama and probably the most anticipated cameo of any drama ever! Dare I say the best given context?

KSH’s cameo in HDL was one of those where it was so good and so impactful that I think it helped a lot of the drama’s fans cope with the bittersweet ending. Instead of getting upset, the conversation somehow abruptly turned to Season 2 questions lol.

    • you have a point but I think PJE dramas do cameos really well, like even the Oh Jung-se appearance in episode 1 was perfectly executed; you don’t even need to know KSH/OJS had a previous drama together as bros to enjoy this, but if you do it’s an additional piece of easter egg fun.

I still want the actual cameo to be a surprise though, don’t announce it what episode or week it’s in or anything.

  2. I thought this is done filming. So SJK has already done his scenes I supposed. And all other cameos should already be known.

  3. I was finally able to catch up to this drama and I am in love. Really looking forward to today’s episode but I am quite bummed out that I have to wait one week every time. That’s why I can’t watch ongoing drama. Looking forward to SJK’s cameo. This is gonna be a reunion for SJK with KJW and KDY.

  4. I’m still pondering if I should start watching the drama now or just wait for all the eps to be aired and binge. For a really good drama, following ep after ep is a different experience than binging non-stop. I found the latter way more exciting and fun. The impact from the story is also deeper. Since I’ve been catching up some old K dramas I missed, I found greater satisfaction with non-stop viewing as many eps as I could than waiting for new eps to come out each week.

    • I feel the opposite….watching as it airs gives me more time to really enjoy the story, the binge model is fun but the episodes all blur into each other.

With 2 episodes a week and especially such long ones like QoT has, the slower pace of watching ep after ep is actually more enjoyable for me personally, even for ‘binge’ shows like Stranger Things I find it easier to spread out watching episodes over one week instead of watching everything in one go.

      • I believe regular viewers are similar. I am just one of those that will read the end of novel before I decide if I will even start. Will not watch a movie till I now how it ends. Thus I like to know end of drama before I even start. I get emotional invested in stories easily..thus I hate if end disappoint me.

      • @HL – I think we are opposites lol I am a total spoiler phobe….but there are different ways of enjoying a story and as long as you do it’s all that matters.
