Yoona and Park Sung Hoon to Star in Time Travel Romance Drama A Tyrant’s Chef — 33 Comments

      • Ha ha I have only seen him in villain roles, with the highlight being in The Glory. But he’s a good actor so I bet he can pull it of.

  1. This is SUCH A CUTE casting! I loooooveee!! Yoona has improved so much over the years and I am so happy to see PSH as a rom-com lead. Its about time and I can’t wait for him to break out as a lead.

Also, its not just the pairing, but I love a fun romance sageuk with an amazing PD. EXCITED!

    • P.s. Yes I am aware PSH already led a rom-com. But not one that’s truly hyped which this one will undoubtedly be. Not sure about ratings (no one can ever be), but this drama will definitely have the fans talking.

  2. He was okay in into the ring but in queen of tears he was so stereotypically bland. Then again he was a little bland for both don’t know if it’s his blank expressions or droll way of speaking? Or the characters he chooses to play?

  3. Gosh please Yoona. You have terrible luck with leading man… thankfully, they compensated their lack with their immense popularity. But Park Sung Hoon? He is so dull in queen o tears

      • Nah I love lee jun hoo in others drama, but not in King The Land, one of his performances for me. His lackluster performances is distracting. The actor Who become Her bad ex boyfriend has more heart in acting than him.

      • It’s the same commenter who thinks Jisoo from Blackpink and Ahn Yeo Seop are good actors, so I wouldn’t place too much value on her very… interesting opinions lol

      • Coquette: I’m sorry If my opinion is not mainstream enough to some people here. Hyeo seop (the main protagonist in novel) and Jiso star in big budget movie, and Jiso star alongside Park Jung Min and in a non traffic project. That’s saying alot right. Some director trust them.

    • What?? On the contrary she has been veeeryyy fortunate with her male costars. Lee Junho, Lee Jongsuk, Ji Changwook, Jo Jungsuk, just to name a few. It is Yoona who’s actually very lacking until recently where she kinda improved but nowhere near the level to be called a good actress

      • @chooco: nah… not gonna disagree when you thing Yoona is lucky to pair with them based on their reputation.

  4. Park Sung hoon is bland but these same commenters are all praises to Byun Wooseok and hailing lim as a bonafide A-list actor (not even saying he is a rising start but already an instant A-list with a 4% ratings?)????

    • lol aren’t you being a little dramatic? there was like one person in the other post that called BWS a bonafide A list and it was more around the shock of him being able to land a role next to IU. there’s a few people with negative/neutral comments about PHS but most others are positive. PSH is no doubt a much much better actor than BWS. they’re not even in the same league honetsly.

  5. Wow, it was only a while ago when a lot of us here were commenting that we want to see Park Sung Hoon as a male lead in a big drama, and here we are! So happy about this news, he deserves this very much! Some comments here are saying he was “bland” in QoT, but I think his character just wasn’t written well. Even good actors can look bland in certain roles if those roles are not written-well (i.e. Yeo Jin Goo in Hotel del Luna, Lee Do Hyun in The Glory, etc.)

Yoona is serviceable too, so I have no complaints. And the plot sounds fun! Definitely will be seated for this. Hope it will be on Netflix!

I have to say tho, that PSH’s agency seems good at securing projects for him. He was in The Glory, and then QoT, and then Squid Game 2, and now this. The first three I mentioned have been huge productions, and this one seems like it would be a big-budget drama too. Good for him!

    • He is with one of the biggest agency, BH Entertainment. They are very, very good at managing their artist’s careers and getting them into good projects.

  6. Wow, I like the premise and can see this packed with hijinks and hilarity. Sadly, I’m not a fan of Yoona’s acting. Such a shame, because dramas involving food & cooking are so up my alley.

  7. But why is the plot so similar to Mr. Queen tho? Aren’t the production afraid of the comparisons which will obviously be brought up during promotion? I mean like why chef again of all professions?

  8. For people saying Park Sung Hoon is a bland/dull actor. He filmed in 4 dramas for one year, and in all of them played completely different characters, without any resemblance of each other. You can easily to check these dramas and to see his acting skills. Not to say people calling his acting in QOT bland because his character was unlikable, as he should. Not to say people criticising his acting when main lead is Yoona, who didn’t show a third part of his versatility. Looks like a joke.

    • Lmao I was thinking the same. I am quite surprised to see so many commenters calling him bad like Yoona is some great actress. I guess pretty privilege goes a long way. 😕

    • I’m surprised too. I thought fans might be disappointed he isn’t the typical “visual” actor like majority of her previous co-stars but not about his talent. He’s always been a character actor type to me who frequently plays varied roles very well.

  9. For me , he was credible in ( Memorials / Into the ring ) , he had also a little role in My only one (KBS week-end drama ) ,… so he already portrayed romantic roles . As much as Yoona is well loved and seems a kind person , i never clicked with her acting .I’ll see.

  10. I think I’m going to love this. So happy Park Sung Hoon was able to have such a comeback after the aftermath of JE. To land The Glory and Queen of Tears after all of that plus Squid Game 2, I hope this leads to a solid hit for him as a male lead in this upcoming drama. I think he’s going to be a fun match with Yoona. I absolutely adored him with Nana in Into The Ring to the point they had me watching Justice. Enjoyed him with Sooyoung in Not Others as well and hope the second season is still a go with all the leads returning. I think this upcoming drama is actually Yoona’s first lead in a female centric drama since she debuted and she’s been acting almost 18 years now.

    • How could i forget Not others! But i agree, i love him with NaNa in Into the ring . And I noticed that in the romantic dramas he played , he didn’t go for the alpla male but for the introvert, understanding, a little clumsy side ! It may explain why netizens tend to forget that he can be a lead male in romance .

  11. Well I appreciated all of the actors that I have watched in the many many k dramas that I have totally enjoyed. I now only watch Korean cinema. I have been very impressed by the acting and the story telling. My only comment would be the lengthy side tracks that are clearly just running out the the 16 episode series requirements other wise I have a lot of moments of satisfaction.
    Two thumbs up… Korea!!

  12. I like dramas with cooking and food focus so I can virtually enjoy all the delicious food lol! I always found Yoona bland onscreen but I think her acting has improved a lot and it sounds like this project is female-centric which will give her more to work with than typical girlfriend/wife type roles. I can’t really imagine her having much romantic chemistry with PSH though or how the romance would even work so I hope there is more emphasis on the food than the romantic angle.

I could not watch King the Land as I found it way too cringe but I thought what I saw of her acting, comic timing and how she inhabited her character was good. This drama seems fitting for this specific director and she has a talented male lead so this could be good.
