First Official Stills for Upcoming Disney+ Political Intrigue K-drama Tempest with Jeon Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won
So this drama was announced last year with big excitement since it was the pairing up onscreen of two big Korean movie stars, one of whom hasn’t been in dramas for over two decades. I’m talking about the political intrigue K-drama Tempest (Korean title Polaris) starring Jeon Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, with Korean-American actor John Cho also in the cast. She plays a former South Korean ambassador to the US and he’s a top mercenary and they have to work together to uncover the conspiracy behind an assassination roiling the Korean peninsula. Directing is successful female lead Kim Hee Won whose last drama was the mega hit Queen of Tears and also directed Vincenzo with the script by the award winning female screenwriter of Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.
This is my most anticipated kdrama of 2025. I’m super excited for the director-writer combo. Kim Heewon’s directing is so good that it ends up saving the show when the script heads into the dumpster (e.g. Little Women and Queen of Tears). I’m disappointed Disney ended up nabbing rights to this.
Jun Jihyun has enough charisma to power a nuclear reactor. Opening shot of her in the trailer was enough to grab all the attention.
Not a fan of the PD. But Wow JJH and KDW! And I love political thriller. I guess that’s the genre of Polaris?
This drama was announced in 2023 and I know this because when the news came out, QOT was still filming. I also know this because I’ve been counting down months lol. Probably the most exciting pairing of the year for me along with PBY-CWS. LOVE the PD obviously but also the writer. Just an overall winning team.
I’m glad romance is on the plate (I was a little concerned they’d go full out political). The trailer also looked so freakin good – actually most of the Disney + trailers looked fantastic in their 2025 preview and I’m so stocked. I just hope they kept aside budget to promote their dramas this year because many have the potential to be absolutely HUGE.
I really like this PD! The story looks interesting. I never really liked these actor’s movies, so I’m curious.
Excited for this genre and it goes without saying that the cast is amazing but I didn’t realise Kin Hee Won was the director too. I really like her directing so that’s made me even more excited for this project.
