Cha Eun Woo and Go Min Si in Talks for the Next Hong Sisters Penned K-drama
So this is a big casting news so rather frustrating to have zero anything substantive about it. K-ent is reporting that Cha Eun Woo and Go Min Si have been offered the leads in the next Hong Sisters K-drama, with some saying Go Min Si is confirmed while Cha Eun Woo is still considering. There is no information about the drama itself, what genre or general set up, and with the Hong Sisters who have such a diverse oeuvre of works spanning this drama could be about anything and set anywhere. The Hong Sisters are currently having their next drama filmed already with Can This Love be Translated starring Kim Sun Ho and Go Yoon Jung which is slated to air sometime in 2025 so this new drama being discussed may be a 2026 arrival.
Cha Eunwoo is truly the IT Boy of South Korea and the only relevant 20s actor at present. Love seeing him stay booked and busy with endorsements and acting projects nonstop. His idol image is almost non existent not that he has a strong actor image either. He’s the closest to a Hallyu Star for this generation. Glad to see Go Minsi finally land a major lead role with popular writers. I’m curious what the plot and characters are. Visually they are an interesting pairing and could work well together.

There are countless dramas every year with different male leads. CEW does one drama per year. It’s time for you to cancel internet because not useful for you at all.

He is not my idol. I just baffled by your OP and reply. In your OP you asked if SK is running out of male lead actors as if it’s a real doubt when reality shows it’s not a real worry at all. The most popular actors release 1 or 2 dramas per year. You’re ignoring the dramas with not popular male actors just because you’re focused only on the popular actors. SK does release dramas without popular actors as male leads every year.

Actually, I’ve ignored Kdramas altogether recently. There were posts before that senior actors do not get much scripts now. And they are those from the glory days of Hallyu. I don’t even know where you’re getting that line that I’m ignoring dramas with less famous actors. Haha! Even Kim Nam Gil, a Daesang winner cannot lure me back. After going to South Korea twice, kdrama magic has already left my body. But I’m still following K-ent news coz…well I’ve got internet might as well use it.
I’m really excited to watch Can This Love Be Translated! No fantasy, no weird rules, no bad reason to kill your FL! And there will be Sota Fukishi! I love this trend of Japanese actors in Korean dramas!
For this one, without knowing the story, it’s kinda to judge the casting. I like Go Min-si and Cha Eun-woo wasn’t so bad in Wonderful World but still very green.

Cha Eun Woo is definitely an It Boy but I wouldn’t say that Go Min Si is an It Girl. She doesn’t really have any impact when it comes to fashion and stuff that girls and women usually copy from the actual It Girls like Wonyoung, Jennie, Han So Hee, etc. It Girls are also household names and are known even by those who don’t follow K-entertainment. Go Min Si is more of an actress than a star, if that makes sense. That’s not a bad thing, just means she’s more known for her acting skills than being a mega-popular star who’s famous for style/image/fashion/etc.
You know that the “It Girl” you listed are no even in acting right? HSH popularity has cool since her foolish battering w/ netizen w/ her love affairs.
GMS is one of the “it girl” right now. While other actresses complain about not getting job offers, She has been working nonstop and one of the highest brand rep. I believe GoYoungjung was #1 in ads the last I heard. GYJ, ParkGyuyoung, Gomin-si are all it girls in the acting industry.
Go min Si is very much an IT girl in Korea. She has starred in popular dramas a hit film and is a very popular brand model. The only actress with more CFs than GMS is another IT girl, Go Youn Jung. She is one of the most sought after actresses in her age group along with Suzy, Go Youn Jung, Kim Da Mi. She is an acclaimed actress, well-respected and liked in the industry with numerous awards and nominations. Her style and visuals are very popular that Knetz even compared her to Kim Min Hee who was known as a beauty pre-scandal. She is definitely on another level compared to two non-actress idols and messy Han So Hee. They cannot be compared to GMS.
Cha Eun Woo is not great in romance dramas..but he is really a very attractive artiste… As I like Hong sisters thru hit and miss for me. I will look forward to watching it…
I find the Hong Sisters’ dramas to be a mixed bag, but I’m always looking forward to them! Bring it on!

probably not her fault. She doesn’t have enough power to command producers to pick co-actors of her choice. Plus with kdramas getting lesser and lesser, she really can’t be too picky on her projects cause there would be plenty of artist out there to get this drama if she doesn’t.
Though this could very well be a good project for her. CEW being IT boy would make this drama garner more buzz. And maybe that would help in giving her more general audience presence. Plus CEW not only is so pretty but is also known to be super kind, hardworking and gentlemanly, so there is that good working environment.
GMS does not need CEW to help her “garner more buzz” or give her “more general audience presence”. She is popular and acclaimed as an actress in her own right. GMS and Hong Sisters (not a fan but their dramas do get a lot of attention) drama is enough to get people interested. I don’t know why are some of you are acting like CEW and his mediocrity are doing GMS a favour by starring with her. Last year alone she won a Blue Dragon and Busan Film Critics Award, was nominated for a Baeksang among numerous other nominations, starred in a very popular variety show, garnered fantastic reviews for her villainous role in no. 1 Netflix drama “The Frog” where she held her own with top senior actors and is currently filming a drama with Kang Ha Neul.
I don’t get the charm of CEW, neither his visuals nor acting. But Hong Sisters wrote some of my favorite dramas. So I’ll check.
Nothing against him , he wasn’t bad in Wonderful world thanks to a co star as Kim Nam Joo, but as @Somebody i don’t get his charm probably because he is for me a pretty boy more than someone charismatic . Charisma is more important for me . I’ll check it because Hong Sisters can be a hit or a miss .
@cahill, @Somebody, I can see he is a beautiful looking tall young man. He makes a good Men’s fashion model. Acting wise he is really not great at romance genre… I dont finish all of his romance dramas. Pretty boys are just so popular in Asia. I like a more rugged look. Many 80s HK actors are so..
@HL , perhaps because i’m “old” , i recognize that they are pretty, but as i said i’m more into older handsome actors as Son Su Ku, Choi Ji Hyuk, Han SuK Kyu, Yoo Yeon Suk,… Or because i’m french and our actors aren’t what is called pretty ( Pierre Niney, Vincent Lacoste, Guillaume Canet,…)
@cahill…to be honest, I fine France have some of the prettiest men… I see so many around when I visit Paris…But they have something more manly about them.. Maybe it is they not so fair plus super smooth and shiny face.
@cahill…I just read so many typos… dyslexia can be annoying, “To be honest, I find France have some of the prettiest guys. I was stopped on my tracks afew number of times in Paris. Even though the guys look pretty, they still look better in their natural light olive skin tone. They don’t have super white, baby smooth and shiny complexion like SK/China idols.
Go Min Si will be hard carrying this. She is so talented. She is one of the best actresses in her age group. CEW is…handsome but that’s about it. He is always out acted by his co-stars. It’s a pity when there are so many far more talented actors and this guy keeps getting lead roles because of his face.
But there aren’t that many talented actors. Moon Sangmin and Lee Chaemin already have multiple lead roles and they are both very mediocre. Cho Youngwoo, Lomon and Lee Jaewook already have multi lead roles and despite massive push from their agencies they don’t have much impact. Choi Hyunwook is already doing lead roles and he is only 22 and a rookie. Ryeoun also went from rookie to lead roles very quickly but he isn’t a very talented either about the same as Cha Eunwoo. Same with Rowoon who has many lead roles to his name with limited acting. It’s not that Cha Eunwoo is a great actor I agree but the others aren’t especially good either. Ahn Hyoseop also has many lead roles but his acting ability is always under question. There are many actors who have been given multiple lead roles and opportunities but it’s still Cha Eunwoo that has had the most impact and of course Lee Dohyun but he is in his 30s now.
But it’s not like CEW is a hitmaker. What hit dramas does he have besides True Beauty where he was outacted by everybody in the cast including the furniture? Wonderful World was successful because of Kim Nam Joo. His other works have flopped. That dog drama had 1% ratings. I think he seems like a very nice guy and I agree his visuals are top tier but GMS could work with a less popular but more talented actor and still make this a hit (if the drama is good enough, of course). Like how Kim Da Mi is going to be starring with Heo Nam Jun as ML in her next drama, what about somebody like Hong Kyung, Woo Do Hwan, Noh Sang-hyun or Bae Hyun-sung (maybe a bit too young?) or give a 2nd ML actor like Lee Sang Yi a chance to be ML?

Second to Sunny about Lee Jae Wook. Yeah why is LJW not given more high profile dramas with better writers and PDs? At least LJW could turn a boring character into someone charming. CEW, however, had one-dimensional acting for multi-layered characters. LOL.
LJW already worked with Hong Sisters and the drama had good ratings and was popular but did nothing for his career especially after the dating news came out the shippers were mad and stopped supporting him. GYJ on the other hand blew up and remains popular despite her medical drama getting postponed. CEW has never had a ratings hit except Wonderful World but nobody ever casts him for his hit making ability or lack thereof. I’m quite sure they cast him for his name value and popularity because his dramas sell abroad at very high costs and he brings in a lot of ad revenue. He gets paid as much as SHK and JJH if not more. I also agree that it’s not that opportunity is being taken from someone and given to CEW because all the names you mentioned and especially WDH already have many dramas to their name and WDH has very bad luck with drama scripts even when he works with good writer and director. CEW just has the face that captivates everyone so even when his dramas flop they don’t impact his popularity at all. He sells his face and he sells it very well.
@germia – yep, AoS hardly improved LJW’s popularity or recognition while GYJ absolutely exploded. If the Hong sisters wanted, they could’ve recast him here like they’d done GYJ. But they didn’t and I totally see why. LJW just doesn’t have the staying power or charisma. He reminds me a bit of YJG or YSH. Good actors, but no real star power to keep themselves in the minds of everyone after their drama ends. None are considered close to being top actors.
CEW is in fact a terrible actor, but he’s a household name similar to how Suzy was in her earlier years despite giving terrible performances. She’s pulled her socks now, but that wasn’t always the case. There was a time she was godawful to watch but there was never a time when she was a nugu. CEW is the same. He sells something people want and his shortcomings in other areas doesn’t diminish his value. I might not be interested in his dramas, but very clearly many are.
I agree Cha Eunwoo is a brand name that has high value. It’s fair that people want to cast him or work with him because of that brand name. They are using him to alleviate their own popularity and he gains access to better resources in the process. It’s a fair exchange and nobody is being shortchanged in between either. The actors who need to break out will do so even with a small role and have lasting impact those who aren’t meant to break out won’t be able to even when all the opportunities are put into their baskets. I would say rookie actors of recent times are lucky since they get lead roles from the start because Kdrama is trying to cast cheap actors because they can’t afford the sky high fees of popular actors. In the past only popular actors got cast and rookies almost never had a chance to get lead roles. Cha Eunwoo has high brand value and gets consistent work but he never steals opportunities from other rising actors or rookies since everyone is getting a fair chance in this era of streaming. He has more impact because he is THE Cha Eunwoo with a face that even male stars go crazy for. His impact goes beyond al demographic and genders.
@germia I agree. I really don’t see the issue. Go Min Si’s casting gives this drama credibility because she’s known as a good actress, while Cha Eun Woo brings in the buzz (Go Min Si is popular and can carry a drama on her own, yes, but she’s not Cha Eun Woo-level popular, just as Cha Eun Woo is not as good as Go Min Si in acting). The casting of both are beneficial to this drama, just in different ways lol
hating on CEW will not make your idol better looking than him so pls sit down together with your not very attractive idol at the far back and admire the most handsome man from the land of morning calm!

I would like to see Cha Eun-woo play a bratty and arrogant but can’t-help-to-love character in the Hong Sisters’ next project, similar to his superstar character in ‘Hit the Top’. Even if he’s been cast in rom coms, he has not yet fully demonstrated his comedic side, so it would be a good opportunity to go full on for the humor.
