Hunan TV Premieres Lighthearted Comedic Romance Period C-drama Youthful Glory with Song Wei Long and Bao Shang En
May 2025 is on fire with C-dramas dropping, first with The Prisoner of Beauty then Legend of Zang Hai, and now add a light hearted period drama Youthful Glory (Shao Hua Ruo Jin 韶华若锦) to the mix. Hunan TV and streaming on Mango platform C-drama Youthful Glory dropped this week on May 19th and stars Song Wei Long, Bao Shang En, Dai Lu Wa, and Ke Ying in another married first then fall in love story. From the trailer it reminds me of another 2025 period drama Les Belles and that one was just silly fluff. If watching visual candy and low stakes story is what you’re in the mood for check this out, I don’t think I have time for this one currently what with my raging TPoB obsession.

Preview for Youthful Glory:
I watched 2 episodes so far and I think they have cast the actors well enough for the series. I find a dark and cold Song Wei Long acceptable so far. I dropped TPOB for now but will keep this one + our Tomb Geomancer Xiao Zhan.
How is the leads acting?? Not a big fan of SWL acting and both leads dont look convincing in the trailer
@lev
Hmm with just 2 episodes so far, I can’t quite say much about the acting. I suppose SWL is alright. I am not a fan of him. I only seen him in two old shows I dug out from the drama archive a couple of years ago; Untouchable Lovers and In A Class of Her Own . I dislike him in Untouchable Lovers and since he was a good guy in In A Class of Her Own, so I am okay with him.
I saw Bao Shang En in Love Behind the Melody (2022) when she was only 19 years old. So I think she is still young and fits the role, from what I read in the original drama.
Like Koala said this is a lighthearted show so no heavy acting is required and both actors’ vibe + looks do fit the characters in the novel.
Is “Glory” the next “Blossom”? Are a bunch of the cdramas this year going to have the word “Glory” in it?
@Koala I am not getting the feel from SZE. Just doesn’t have the cozy and warm chemistry of Zhao Lusi – Liu Yu Ning. Though I don’t think ZLS fits this role.
Will keep watching TPOB. Just not feeling the intensity nor excitement. And I was eagerly waiting for this drama. 🙁
I’m liking LOZH though and find it suspenseful enough.
I accidentally watched it and just realize that it was from a novel i’ve read weeks ago. For me personally, this drama looks like a cheap production. I dropped it. From acting to plot, aren’t my cup of tea. I didn’t finish the novel either.
My current fave is TLoZH. Worth watching.
Now at ep 22 of TPoB. The main character stories are boring. While the 2nd ML story is intriguing. The actor kinda plays the same character, and he masters it.
