tvN Weekend Drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Hits 12% Ratings by Episode 12 as K-ent Marvels at Female Lead Yoona’s Hit Streak Even in Tough Ratings Era
I think there is a chance that tvN weekend drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty could hit 20% ratings for the cable network and become one of it’s top rated dramas of all time what with six more episodes remaining. But even not accomplishing that feat doesn’t diminish that it’s a bona fide hit for the network and a much needed one at that. People love the cooking scenes above all, the zippy directing, and the nicely development interactions between leads Yoona and Lee Chae Min. While he gets deserved praise for being a replacement male lead but delivering in acting ability and onscreen charm especially at comparatively young age, she’s getting the majority of the credit for the drama’s success. K-ent is noting that this drama would mark her third hit K-drama in a row, when even one hit is hard to come by. Big Mouth was both critically acclaimed and got high ratings, while King the Land just got high ratings even if it was seen as a fluff rom-com. Kudos to Yoona for picking great projects and delivering what is needed as the female lead.

I couldn’t really get into King of the Land but I get BAYM. The show is fun and has high entertainment value. I’m a self declared foodie so I also adore the food scenes. Lee Chaemin needed this after hierarchy, which was terrible. As he gain fans, I hope he doesn’t attract too many looney bins that might attack his gf.
I dropped King of the Land. But after this one, I’m gonna check out Big Mouth. I liked Lee Jong Suk’s acting in When You Were Sleeping anyhow. I did not expect Yoona had such good sense of comedic timing. She’s really funny in BAYM. She is another example that has found her niche in the acting department after departing from idol career. On a side note, compared to K-ent, C-ent has very lousy environment for idol actors to have chance to be taken seriously. Poor writing + lazy directing + nepotism + censorship all combined has become fodder for boring cookie-cutter acting.
I love her but this type of show ends in only one way and I loathe those endings. I checked the webtoon and it is indeed very very meh for my tastes so I will have to pass until it is over. If by some miracle the scriptwriter made it better, I will gladly watch.
I didn’t have any expectations when I started watching BAYM, but it’s surprisingly entertaining. At first, it felt like a poor imitation of Mr. Queen (one of my all-time fave k-dramas), but as the show progressed, I can now see it has its own unique touch to it.
I was also surprised that the leads actually have good chemistry. I was disappointed when the first choice male lead had to drop out of the project, but LCM is doing pretty good as second choice.
I hope the ending isn’t too sad though. Let’s wait and see.
This drama may be nothing compared with Tempest that just premiered on Disney+ and Hulu, starring Jun Ji-hyun and hot Gang Dong-won LOL.
Her recent movie was a massive flop so this is nice for her. Some actresses have their niche and seems like after KTL and BAYM, kdrama romcoms are Yoona’s. She was fine in Big Mouth but LJS carried that drama.
i think bon appetite worked out so well becoz of the king , he is eccentric, funny handsome, cute and mature ,sexy all at the same time , yoona has more chemistry with him than any other actors she has previously worked with. the story set up and director has 100% contribution for the ratings , as its proven all depends on director and male leads natural acting chemistry instead of being fluffy
I don’t understand the hype. The drama is tropy, the acting is over the top, the script very weak. The chemistry between leads is forced. Don’t even ask about the expressions made when eating the food. So childish. Kdrama Tastefully Yours was so much better than this. Yoona, I liked in KtL but here she looks so average, I was laughing when someone called her a beauty in the drama.
