Xiao Zhan Begins Filming Big Budget Fantasy Action Thriller K-drama The Infinite 10 Days
I’m not interested when Xiao Zhan does serious or homespun type dramas so this is a very exciting pick for his next project that looks cool. He’s started filming the big budget C-drama The Infinite 10 Days (十日终焉 Shi Ri Zhong Yan) based on the same name novel. The characters wake up one day in the Land of the End where they must survive trials and battles with the 12 Zodiac signs but their situation resets every 10 days and they start afresh. I’m interested in the story even if this concept in general has so many novels/mangas/dramas done before and in recent years it includes Omniscient Reader Viewpoint, Squid Game, Alice in Borderland, As the God’s Will, etc., so I want to see how China takes on this apocalyptic fantasy survival genre.
Not a fan of this genre, neither did Cdrama ever deliver intriguing plots as Kdrama has. But I’ll watch whatever XZ is in. Personally I’m more looking forward to the premiere of his upcoming drama, Small Town Remedy. The trailer looks fun with humor.
On a side note. I came across discussions about Cdrama recommendations to newbies thanks to Pursuit of Jade. A lot of first-time viewer was introduced to Cdrama cuz of PoJ. One guy said that he proceeded to watch Story of Kunning Palace since Zhang Linghe is the ML but couldn’t get into the story. For male audience, I think genres like survival games, legal drama, or action fantasy are more appealing. These are also the major genres where Kdrama is doing so well globally.
If this new survival drama of XZ doesn’t drag like most of the Cdramas, it may be a good recommendation to new male fans of Cdrama. I strongly suggest the production team strike a deal with Netflix for streaming in other regions. Given that PoJ has opened up the door for Cdrama to enter international platform, there’s a good chance that a well-delivered survival fantasy will also make it to top 10 list.
Awesome novel, well worth reading if you can. So pleased Xiao Zhan finally said yes after they chased him for over a year. The production said he was their only choice and they seem really serious. Great acting and investment draw can’t be beaten. The biggest challenge is the script but they have been working on that one for over two years.
This was a highly demanded role, we can see it by all the meltdowns happening around it. It’s popcorn fun but also tiring that some just cannot let go that their idols didn’t get it.
Seriously? There were always talks about some other guys than XZ getting high-profile roles. I wonder if they were the same old same old folks competing with him for this role again. lol.
TBH, I’d be more confident in its success if this were a K production. I just don’t have that much trust in C writers and directors in general. I hope there will be a breakthrough though.

By far, The Untamed is still my all time favorite. My personal preference aside, I just have to be honest with the facts and numbers. NONE of these Cdramas, TU included, have ever made it to the global top-10 list of Netflix. PoJ broke that record for Cdrama by sitting in the list for at least 3 weeks. Have you watched I Am Nobody? I thought I wasn’t a fan of this genre too until recently my boyfriend made me watch it because he loved the drama so much he’s on his 3rd rewatch. This seems to be the same genre and is produced by the same team. So you can give it a try!
Yea POJ is described as a “chinese fairytale” for how idealistic and beautiful the story and scenery is in the first 18 episodes. Story is also simple to understand. So no surprise its appealing to newbies.

I haven’t been able to finish one singe C modern drama except for my own fav’s. Bad scripts, bad direction, and overacting from so-called “old acting bones” lol. I checked my fav’s dramas to see his growth. Nothing more than that.
Correction: I should say I’ve never been able to binge watch any C modern drama all the way through. Think about it, besides XZ’s drama, I did finish Hidden Love but after trying 2 or 3 times. I checked out Chen Zheyuan’s dramas for similar reasons. That is, I was curious about CZY’s acting thanks to his haters. lol. Then I found CZY actually very versatile after “studying” his acting. lol
On the contrary, I think kdrama stalled or has hit a plateau, while cdrama is on the rise on their creativity, or whatever it is you call it (varierty maybe, or an offer to a different kind?). The superficially of the kculture as a whole has bled through the kdrama so seriously that the kdramas no longer mirror reality, not even close. They’ve regressed. Or maybe kdrama has regressed so bad that anything is actually better. The fact that you can actually identify the c actors by their faces is already a plus. You can’t say the same thing to k actors nowadays. They all look the same, practically.
By far, I still vastly prefer Kdrama to Cdrama. PoJ is just one exception this year. I usually found only one or two Cdramas that were intriguing enough to watch each year. In general, K-dramas offer a more uniform level of quality. Even if the production from the last two years hasn’t been stellar and lacked a “wow” factor, it’s still far more watchable than the average C-drama snoozefest. lol
If you want an example of a total drag, look no further than My Journey to You. I decided to check this drama after watching Pursuit of Jade and Story of Kunning Palace which have substance in the plots IMO. I watched MJtY to “study” ZLH. lol. But man the drama has become my daily doze of sleeping pills. LMAO. It’s tiring on many fronts, from the bad writing and direction to the spooky LOL and cringe-worthy acting of 2nd FL, just to name a few.
I agree Kdrama hasn’t been groundbreaking recently and many have become predictable, specifically in romance genres. I don’t disagree with you on K visuals either. But for me, Kdrama still provides a more satisfying viewing experience overall.
BTW, I’m currently following Sold Out on You staring Anh Hyo Seop and Chae Won Bin. Surprisingly, it’s doing better than I expected. It’s now the #1 non-English show on Netflix. And THIS looks like a rom com.
I thought he was going to star in kdrama, which is mind-blowing if he does but never mind. anyhow– not interested with this kind of repeat, overused plot, not even XZ will pique my interest.
