C-netizens Joke that Using Real Names will Make C-drama The Road to Glory with Zhang Ling He and Lin Yun Turn Country Bumpkin
So the real name decree is reportedly going into effect mid-July for drama productions, i.e. promotional materials need to use the real names of the actors and actresses rather than their stage names. This will then help the billing order by following surname strokes and no one can complain or argue who should be top billed based on “popularity” or “clout”. There are plenty of stage names in C-ent but C-netizens took note that period romance The Road to Glory with Zhang Ling He and Lin Yun (Jelly Lin) will now have a totally different vibe when both their real names are used. Their stage names sound sophisticated and cultured, while their real names Zhang Jia Wei and Fei Xia sound like country bumpkin type names. Their are not wrong lol, that’s usually one big reason for stars to choose stage names to upscale oneself so to speak. Oh well, I’m just sat for the hot mess of different names flying around and your average viewer being confused.

I have read in a reddit post that now fans are objecting when their favorite might be cast with an actor that might be billed before them because of the shorter name. People are crazy.
I really hope that is just a few crazy fans. With this change, top billing won’t have much meaning anymore. Maybe some fans may not even want their fave to be the top billed in case some rivals make the following argument.
Fan #1: “My actor is top billed!! We win!”
Fan #2: “Your actor can only depend on his last name to get ahead. He’s not as popular, goodlooking, or talented as MY fave.”
I actually prefer his real name –🏠 Birth Name: 张家玮 (Zhāng Jiāwěi)
Compared to his stage name, his birth name sounds much more down-to-earth, warm, and approachable- exactly like him
张 (Zhāng): His family surname.
家 (Jiā): Means “family” or “home.”
玮 (Wěi): Means “fine jade,” “precious,” or “rare treasure.”
The meaning of this name is quite heartwarming. It can be understood as “the precious jade of the Zhang family” or “the treasure of the family.” It carries his parents’ love and hopes for him and sounds like the name of a childhood friend or classmate, full of everyday warmth.
Interesting! That does sound like a good name. Wonder why it would be considered country?
At least they separated the main leads, supporting roles and guest starrings. But using surname and name strokes is a little iffy, what if multiple people happened to have the same strokes? Using age would be better imo, less chance of celebrities sharing the exact same age.
The main leads are still separate.
Everyone else can fight it out in a boxing ring lol
I don’t agree on this, stage name it is not only about having a cool name but also keeping privacy, most ppl dont know their real name even some their fans, and celebrities order food, book hotels and do normal stuff normal ppl do using their real name, if their real name becomes so known, it will become so hard for them to have even the sighlt of privacy in their life
This doesn’t feel like it solves the real problem.
Name can be changes and you can cast people based on their name
I think they should just give the first billing to the person that has the most scenes between the male lead & female lead. It’s only fair.
Then you’ll have a bunch of lunatic fans coming up with rumors that so-and-so used their powerful connections to get more scenes and cut time from their fave. Second leads are accused of this all the time. I don’t believe there’s any reason left in some people’s brains. No matter the system, the fan wars will probably continue one way or another.
LOL. Such a circus show from C-ent!
