Chae Soo Bin and Woo Do Hwan in Talks for Sexy Thriller Romance K-drama Flowers are Bait From the Same Webtoon Writer as When the Phone Rings
So this whole story set up sounds so weird that I’m tempted to read the webtoon just to see what the heck the writer is trying to create. But soon it will become a K-drama as webtoon Flower is Bait is confirmed for a live action adaptation and is currently in talks with Chae Soo Bin and Woo Do Hwan as the leads. The interesting part is that the webtoon writer also wrote the webtoon for When the Phone Rings which starred Chae Soo Bin in the live action and was quite well received and popular. Flower is Bait is the thriller romance between the male lead chaebol heir with a mental illness and a tree doctor (yes tree!) who does not believe in love. So he can’t express love and she thinks love is just an illusion. The drama is slated for a 2027 release and the webtoon will be adapted by the screenwriter of Hwajung, Dong Yi, and Celebrity.
I’ve read a translation of the novel that the webtoon is based on last year and really enjoyed it. I’ve read the webtoon up to around chapter 30. It was a nice balance of romance, thriller, and smut, though I wonder how much of the dark romance smut stuff the drama will pursue. When I had first begun it, it did feel like it could work as a dark comedy rom-com, so they could possibly adapt it that way.
Anyways, nice casting visual – WDH will fit the male lead’s dangerous look and CSB will fit the FL’s apprehensive look (tricking an amnesiac murderer into thinking he’s your husband is stressful)

Wow!They look like the webtoon characters. I think Wi HaJoon or Kim WooBin is also acceptable if the original ML doesn’t work out.
The premise sounds ridiculous
I am reading the webtoon now and it’s quite interesting. It’s much darker than When The Phone Rings but the premise is not that bad at all. The reactions over at X seems very excited over this adaptation and castings.
Chae Soo Bin and Woo Do Hwan are perfect for the characters. And judging that it’s going to be on SBS, they will surely water down the smut elements, just like what they did with WTPR back then. This is SBS and unlike MBC, this drama will get better promotion (since WTPR was hardly promoted by MBC and only become a hit thanks to words of mouth). Accordingly, it is slated for broadcast in May 2027 and would be a 12eps drama, so I think the filming is to start anytime soon.
Loved Chae Soo Bin in When the Phone Rings, the live action story was intriguing and spicy! I hope she is able to create the same chemistry she did back then with her new costar here.
In her whole career, Chae Soo Bin has only one costar with whom the chemistry wasn’t there and that guy kind of has a problem in that department in general so I’m going to say that one was on him, not her.
She’s one of the most reliable chemistry fairies in kdramas and Woo Do Hwan also has great chemistry with his FLs (I’m still recovering from Mr Plankton) so I’m excited to see them together onscreen, just hope the script is good.
gosh I’m watching Mr. Plankton now and god damn the chemistry is out of this world. Damn WDH really didn’t wanna typecast himself i guess cuz he’s so good doing romance especially that dashing look.
I really hope he can reunite with LYM cuz they need to compensate us for giving one of the best k-trauma.
If you are talking about Choi Min Ho, yeah, they were NOT good together. Horrible chemistry.
@lai WDH is honestly a chemistry fairy himself, Mr Plankton was devastating but so good, it had that old-school kdrama melo romance tragedy level of emotions,if it had aired on TV WDH should have been up for some awards.
My only potential concern with this drama is that the FL in the novel/webtoon sounds a bit similar to Chae Soobin’s character in WTPR (traumatic childhood, very withdrawn and quiet even if not an actual mute) and I hope they do something to differentiate her from that/she’s not possibly typecasted, she deserves better even if I think a WDH/CSB pairing would be fire.
Side note, what is it about Lee Yoomi’s best pairings always ending in some kind of trauma please I need non-sad reunions for her with WDH, Jung Hoyeon and Byun Wooseok (they had better chemistry in Strong Girl Nam-soon than her actual OTP)
I’m actually excited for this solid casting and also the age-appropriateness of the cast. I wonder when CSB’s drama with Kim Youngkwang will drop…. Anyway, CSB’s character is an arborist (tree surgeon) who’s really into saving the trees, bless her. Read the webtoon till Ch.50 and does have smut elements but I see them as a bonus and don’t really take away from the main story. The web novel I’m reading to know what happens next ’cause I’m antsy.
fret not cuz her drama with KYK is out on the last half of 2926. Not sure the exact date tho.
Funny-sounding premise, but hey, I like both of these actors and looking forward to their chemistry! I hope the script and directing do them justice!
Like her, like him, they both have a varied body of work, this sounds edgy/interesting, hope they end up doing it together.
