K-actor Kim Soo Hyun Officially Resumes Entertainment Activities with Philippines Clothing Brand Bench
There are various tiers of being cancelled across various reasons in K-ent and this one was fairly unique outside of the usual tax evasion, drug use, and drunk driving reasons. K-actor Kim Soo Hyun has been inactive for the past year and four months, basically since February 2025, after reveals and allegations that he dated now deceased actress Kim Sae Ron when she was underage, with further allegations that his treatment of her after breaking up contributed to her suicide by financial stress. The former would make him a pedophile, the latter just a very shitty and cruel ex-boyfriend. He held a press conference admitting to dating her but saying it was after she was of legal age and denied the other allegations. Since then there are lawsuits flying between him and her family and the Youtuber who revealed the allegations, and also between his agency and various brands that cut ties and sued him. Recently there was a change of status with authorities stating that videos and text messages released by the Youtuber could not be authenticated and hence manipulated and charged the guy who is denying it and vowing to clear his name. Since then Kim Soo Hyun’s side has made an all out approach for his return and this week is the first official step with him shooting a clothing campaign for Philippines clothing brand Bench in Manila. His agency also revealed that he’s been inundated with around 40 film and drama offers. Like it or not, he’s coming back, to what success remains to be seen.
I’m not surprised. Ji Soo, who was accused of bullying, has built a successful career here in the Philippines. Even politicians with criminal records can still become public servants. Unlike in Korea, where public figures face much stricter moral expectations, here you can throw garbage and Filipinos will treasure it like a diamond.
Right? Philippines never beating the “tapunan ng problematic cancelled oppars” allegations, SMH it’s so embarassing 🤦🏻♀️
Meanwhile, there are many underemployed and perfectly nice Korean actors who would appreciate a casting call.
I just can’t watch him the same way. But he is not the first actor to have scandals and come back. It’s a Korean entertainment thing for sure that has stood the test of time. Men are treasured over there no matter what mistakes are made as opposed to women.
He did it. Who could possibly swoon over him now?
Thank goodness I never became a fan of him. Despite his record-breaking dramas and huge success, I always felt indifferent because something just didn’t sit right with me. It turns out my instincts weren’t entirely off. He’s lost a significant amount of wealth, and rebuilding both his finances and his reputation may be a very long road.

I was and Always watched his movies and TV Series but after what happened to his former girlfriend who passed away, very regretful: that he was not able to lend any Money to her, as we all knew that he was number ONE highest Paid Korean Actor!
So his cancellation didn’t even last the length of an average Korean military service, huh?
I saw an article saying viewers would find it hard to watch him in a romance drama now. Understatement of the century, considering what he himself admitted to (the letters sent to her while he was in military service and she was a minor) and the way it all adds up to, at the very least, grooming.
If the Korean industry is this hellbent on having him back for God’s sake please keep him away from any and all projects with child/teen actors and all interactions with children and minors, he’s already shown he can’t be trusted. I can’t believe Yoon Eun Hye got cancelled by k-netizens and industry for years over daring to defend herself against plagiarism accusations but this guy is walking around after not even 18 months with casting offers and a brand willing to make him their face.
Someone who stills remember Yoon Eun Hye . I missed her in dramaland . I still don’t understand her case . So much actors came back after scandals.It may be more difficult for women, and worse for women in their forties . But back then, netizens were hard on celebrities .Now, they still harsh but their memory erases one scandal after one !

Part of his appeal was playing the devoted green flag guy and that’s harder to sell now and his movie roles seemed to dry up after the Real fiasco, so I wonder who is making the 40+ offers and in what context. Seems like mediaplay. I’ll bet some of the offers are from sketchy companies.
The Filipino show business industry does not see anything wrong with hooking up with teenagers.
Cleared of all charges on 29 July 2026 by Seoul Police due to lack of credible evidence. I had my misgivings at the time that the accusations were trumped up. Huge negative impact to his life and career though – all because of manipulative people after a payout. So sad. I know I will get hate because of this comment – as everyone else that comments appears to have gobbled up the propaganda and were more than willing to believe the worst without questioning.
