Kim So Hyun and Choo Young Woo Experience Sweet Young Romance in the Late PD Ahn Pan Seok’s Last Filmed K-drama Between Steps — 12 Comments

  1. I don’t know what it is about this actress but ever since they rushed her into adult roles too soon she will forever look like a teen to me and I just can’t get into her roles with romance involved. She is a great actress though. I have yet to watch her anymore because of this. I think she should try other genres but that is just me. No hate.🤷🏻‍♀️

    • She has done other roles. In Nightmare High there was no romance, in Good Boy and River Where the Moon Rises she did action her upcoming movie is an Occult thriller. It’s true though she herself prefers romance focused roles. I don’t see her interested in doing stuff like HyperKnife , Price of Confession or Dear X. On the other hand the problem is also that producers would never pick her for those roles because she hasn’t proven herself capable of even selling her romance roles as top billed let alone a female led non romance drama. She’s started to become secondary to male leads even in romance dramas so it shows that her overall market value won’t change too much since the industry has typecast her and she herself is happy with that typecast since it guarantees a steady flow of projects. Even something like Undercover Miss Hong is out of her capabilities. She’s talented and pretty but can’t anchor a project which is her biggest demerit. In the past she would have been able to but not anymore. Her 30s will not be easy but she should still have enough projects to pay her bills and stay visible. What she should do is move to variety shows to refresh her image but again her personality type doesn’t allow her to do that. Her career is stalled by her own lack of initiative and her talent is being wasted.

      • I read her interview and her career projection right now is due to her own choice. She said she wants a more relaxing pace in her career since she’s been working non-stop since she was a child, hence when she reached adulthood, she preferred to have more rest time in between her projects and pick what she likes.

      • This is true her career is a failing made by herself. How to put it, but she doesn’t make good role or script choices so normally I look at her co star to see if she has a one that generally picks good projects or one that picks bad ones. You can know if her drama will succeed on not based on that. This is probably why she has yet to work with people like LDH but at the same time I’m glad she hasn’t worked with LJW yet because that man can’t pick a good script. Her career breaks are good healthy work life balance but I agree she needs to do those healing variety shows instead of acting for some time. She needs to find some motivation to be the next KGE or KTR.

      • @Lily True, she herself said she prefers romance dramas. So as much as a lot of us would love to see her playing another Go Eun Byul type of character, there’s nothing we can do if she’s happy with lowkey romance dramas for now.
Anyway, her upcoming movie seems like it’s gonna be a different genre for her, so I guess she’s still open to working on non-romance projects, at least. But I’ve already accepted that the majority of her works will be in the romance genre. Well, as long as I’m seeing her on my screen, I’m not complaining lol

      • Can’t anchor big projects? She is the FL of 3 high profile projects – Between Steps, Modup and White Scandal. She is one of the few actresses of her generation who consistently being cast as FL in high profile projects. Not all Korean actresses are given this much opportunity like her.

These haters will say all they want out of jealousy. Please note that this girl deserves a rest and a choice after than River controversy she has been in.

      • @GoldFish please allow the girl sometime cause it seems like she was traumatized and stressed by the River controversy. She is better managed now. Her 3 projects are all solid and high profile. She consistently appears in premium shows, events and photoshoots. She will get there. Please note that SHK was in romance genre for like decades but we did not hear any complaints.

    • Maybe part of it is that she has such a baby face with super youthful features? Lol I personally feel the same way towards Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet even tho they’re already in their early 30s. I guess some people just have that perpetually youthful vibe

    • She’s doing other genres here and there tho? Her most recent one is literally Good Boy, which is an action drama with minimal romance. Her upcoming movie with Im Shi Hwan isn’t a romance movie either. Personally tho, I’d love to see her in a My Liberation Notes-type drama, I think her more subdued acting style will be suitable for that

  2. I’m really looking forward to this pairing in the new drama, mostly because I always rooted for the late PD. Recent Netflix Kdramas have had pretty underwhelming romance, so I hope Disney+ delivers better love stories. Lately, Netflix seems to resort to sizzling intimate scenes without much substance like in the hit Chinese show The Early Spring, just to attract viewership. It works, but that style of romance isn’t really up my alley. It reminds me of early Taiwanese dramas, which I wasn’t a fan of. While I am an avid fan of the legal, action, and fantasy genres that have more explicit/graphical elements, when it comes to romance, I much prefer a slow-burn story or comedic quips.
