Hits are getting rarer in C-drama land following the footsteps of K-dramas starting a decade ago that a modern drama which does well absolutely makes sense to milk it for a sequel/follow up. Modern office place toxic romance C-drama The Early Spring has been confirmed for a next drama tentatively titled Midsummer (盛夏晴朗 Midsummer Clear Skies) with the same production team behind the scenes. It’s in front of the camera that is unclear, as the writer of The Early Spring novel did have a similar name follow up novel focused on the second lead characters in the first novel but the follow up drama being planned is NOT based on that novel. It will be an original script written by the adapting screenwriter of The Early Spring. Word on the street is that it will be the continuation of the story of the leads of TES with Jing Bo Ran and Sun Qian reuniting, though that is far from certain as neither has confirmed anything. But the success of TES has been attributed to the leads and their onscreen chemistry and no production will go forward with a S-budget drama starring former supporting leads and definitely need the OG stars back to guarantee viewer interest in the follow up.
