Youku Popular C-drama The Early Spring with Jing Bo Ran and Sun Qian Confirmed for a Same Production Follow Up Drama Midsummer
Hits are getting rarer in C-drama land following the footsteps of K-dramas starting a decade ago that a modern drama which does well absolutely makes sense to milk it for a sequel/follow up. Modern office place toxic romance C-drama The Early Spring has been confirmed for a next drama tentatively titled Midsummer (盛夏晴朗 Midsummer Clear Skies) with the same production team behind the scenes. It’s in front of the camera that is unclear, as the writer of The Early Spring novel did have a similar name follow up novel focused on the second lead characters in the first novel but the follow up drama being planned is NOT based on that novel. It will be an original script written by the adapting screenwriter of The Early Spring. Word on the street is that it will be the continuation of the story of the leads of TES with Jing Bo Ran and Sun Qian reuniting, though that is far from certain as neither has confirmed anything. But the success of TES has been attributed to the leads and their onscreen chemistry and no production will go forward with a S-budget drama starring former supporting leads and definitely need the OG stars back to guarantee viewer interest in the follow up.

I’m sure TES fans are going to be thrilled about the sequel, especially since it reunites the original leads for a storyline about finding their way back to each other. The show is performing incredibly well on global platforms like Netflix, earning it a passionate cult following right alongside Pursuit of Jade! The fandom wars on social media are already on; I read them fighting each other. lmao. It’s crazy how popular TES has gotten in Latin America. Think about why! lol.

I was also surprised to find out that TES swept the Netflix charts across Latin America. Well, that certainly says something! It looks like people there have a strong appetite for something. LOL.
They should just put in enough sex scenes and people will watch. They don’t care about the plot or quality. First part proved that.
Honestly I’m on the last episode. Good God this drama to me was such a drag the first half but picked up the pace sadly when her friend suicided and she finally let him go and grow a backbone for herself. I can already tell the novel must be a piece of work in regards to the smut cause there were so many implied sex scenes in this drama lol. In which I won’t bother to read cause it is not my type of genre to read. His acting was on point and her acting was awkward and off in the first half but she did well in the second half. Their relationship was toxic but I liked how they tied it together at the end but really though she put up with him for 6 years and no marriage talks anyone would jump ship. A little unrealistic but I know why people like it now but personally not my taste but watched it because everyone comments on this made me curious lol. There are so many stories like this on Netflix and Amazon prime that are so angst and toxic and this one seemed more tame. The male lead is handsome and that is what is in now so I’m not shocked at why this became as popular as it claimed to be now. I’m sure if they return again it will be well received because their chemistry made it bearable.
Could be a couple of years from now and I feel like the hype could die down by then. Would Jing Boran want to do another idol drama and would Sun Qian want to be dragged again for not being as good an actor as JBR?
