Normally I’m all for anyone doing whatevers to one’s own body, be it hair, makeup, or even body modifications. But when one is an actress and makes a living onscreen then there is the delicate balance of body autonomy with impacting the visuals. That’s the case for K-actress Nana, who played the second female lead in recently premiered Netflix sageuk K-drama The Scandal, based on the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses but more closely an adaptation of the 2003 Korean movie based on it Untold Scandal. Everyone should know the story set up so Nana plays the ingenue or virtuous widow in this version and it seduced by the male lead playboy character. Viewers have been critical of her modern lip injection fillers that are too noticeable and take the audience out of the scene. The phrase “fish lips” are unfortunately very apt in her case. The best approach in this case is when she was cast in this role she should have halted it before filming to get back to more normal size and then go back to her usual injections after filming is done. Nana has come out and apologized for this happening.
