Oh this is a bit of a bummer development, but not surprising since production companies are always trying to get the bigger names if possible. Period C-drama The Brocaded Tale of the Girl Si based on the same name novel was initially in talks with Alen Feng as the male lead but now has moved to discussions with Chen Zhe Yuan. The top billed female lead remains Jing Tian who has worked with countless male leads and has a very positive reputation within C-ent as easy to work with, professional, and always generating chemistry with an actor. I didn’t think the mess with the casting of Love on the Turquoise Land would have any meaningful negative impact on Chen Zhe Yuan as he’s still quite up on the cusp of a major breakout in the eyes of production companies so if he accepts this drama will head into production likely without any BTS messiness.
Oh not this disaster. If it’s him, I am not touching that with a ten foot pole. Blech.
Her, I like. Him, regardless of the rumors I don’t like. His visuals are nothing special and his acting is meh. And to think we could have gotten Alen Fang instead…🙄

Man what a downgrade from Alen Fang ugh. CZY seems like a magnet for drama so I hope he stays away from Jing Tian and this drama!

Alen Feng would be more age appropriate with Jing Tian. They also have the same look, so they might look more like siblings rather than a couple.

I like CZY. I find him talented and good looking. Maybe this drama was the reason the other drama with Dilraba fell out. I was thinking he made a mistake playing hard to get since the star power of Dilraba would have given him a lot of exposure. But looks like he was focusing on this drama.

I don’t know what happened with CZY
I knew him from his first sleeper hit schoolboy drama which was not just sweet but so nicely filmed with a big heart. And his performance there was earnest, grounded and it was obvious he was going to breakout. And thereafter I tried but never liked any of the later dramas. He lost that little boy next door charm and somehow got “oily” for the lack of a better word. I think he should get over himself and try to find that spark again otherwise I’m the world of fickle C-ent, not many third or 4th chances and I wish he had better people around him professionally to make the right choices
Chen zheyuan received a lot of criticism from Our Secret when it was airing so its like him trying to get better but somehow lose the enjoyment of acting
(oguri shun suffer the same thing until Hamada Gaku and Eita told him “forget technical side, just try to enjoy acting!”)
also CZY’s later airing drama mostly filming the same time as Our secret so..
If Chen Zhe Yuan does not get this drama…then this will be second slap on his face. His agency must be work super hard to put him in this.
This makes me sad. I hope he doesn’t get this role. I want Alen Fang to get it. The guy is talented and so handsome. I don’t understand why production companies are so stupid to not cast this guy as their lead.
I was looking forward to seeing Alan Feng after a Journey to Love. Although I like Jing Tian, I won’t be watching this if it’s CZY

I thought he will be top/equal billing for being the male lead. It will be a huge downgrade if he is second billing to Jing Tian (I am not familiar with her at all). I know Alen Feng from Journey to Love and I liked his funny character there.
Considering what he has been doing no way he goes down without fighting. He wanted equal billing to Reba! This? I would be surprised if he doesn’t want first. On his own.
I read he wanted first billing over Reba, while Reba is okay with equal billing. Then the investors disagreed and offered the ML to someone else and Reba remains first billing. Now it all depends on JT and the investors to decide what he is worth for… I don’t like his acting in that drama with Lusi, and the recent costume drama is worse.
I don’t dislike CZY, I’m just a little disappointed that FYL isn’t getting a proper dramas as male lead. The ones he’s led in the past are all low budget ones with people I’ve never heard of :(. I hope his opportunity comes soon!
