Two million admissions and $15M USD in box office within 6 days is quite the feat in the Korean box office and even more so with the prolonged slump this year. The movie is My Daughter is a Zombie with Jo Jung Seok and Jo Yeo Jung as the leads and young teen actress Choi Yoo Ri as the titular zombie daughter, with talented veterans Lee Jung Eun and Yoon Kyung Ho rounding out the main cast. The movie premiered last weekend on July 20th and set the biggest Korean box office movie opening this year and in six days has surpassed 2 million admissions and earned $15M USD in box office, already over it’s budget of $8M USD. This movie is adapted from a popular webtoon and deals with a dad trying to keep the world from killing his daughter who has turned into a zombie during a zombie outbreak, and trying to train her not to bite and seeing that she still has shreds of her personality. It’s a comedy but also the love of a father to daughter is appealing to wide swathes of the K-audience. Congrats to a much needed hit!
