Latest Casting Rumor for C-drama Adaptation of The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage has Dilraba Dilmurat as Female Lead with Either Yang Yang or Liu Yu Ning as Male Lead
So the much discussed and still ongoing plans to adapt the novel into the C-drama The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage got some new news this week. Word from C-ent casting is that Dilraba Dilmurat will be the female lead, and for her it’s not really that new as she’s been floated for this project for some months now. But her name still being on the top means it’s more likely to happen than not. The male lead choice is new though, as this week it’s being said that it is either going to be Yang Yang or Liu Yu Ning. The former will reunite the super popular CP from You are My Glory and the latter will pair up the other non-CP from The Long Ballad. Yang Yang probably makes more sense since he’s visually more suited for the very handsome Xie Jing Xing and also has proven chemistry with Dilraba, but reportedly he’s not looking to dive into another drama right now and may also not want to take second billing to Dilraba. I worry for Liu Yu Ning being cast because viewers will tear him to pieces for not being conventionally handsome enough, sigh. And ultimately all three are in their thirties and this novel leads are total teens in the beginning and already needs to be mega-aged up to make sense for this casting.
Our male lead in the novel is supposed to be a cold and
devastatingly handsome character, Young Master Xie…. Like a really hot but cool looking dude. Let’s stick to that…… any suggestions?
I have no problems with Dilraba… at least it’s not Wu Jin Yan appearing in another Qian Shan Cha Ke novel or almost every new adaptations coming out…..

The first person to come to mind is Liu Xueyi if we’re talking about 30s actors anyways. He’s definitely good looking and can play cold and cunning very well.
That is what I was thinking too. He is one of my favorites but doesn’t get the recognition. It would be interesting to pair him with Diralba.
Liu Xueyi and Diralba would be an interesting pairing. He is an incredible actor but doesn’t get the recognition. Love to see them together in a drama.
Zhang Linghe just popped into my mind… he’s really handsome (dunno with cool look) and with his current popularity I think he’d still be willing to take second billing under Dilraba. Plus, their chemistry in the variety show (where he almost acted like he had a secret crush on her) already shippable, so I don’t think there’d be any problem carrying that into an on-screen romance

Wang Xing Yu, very young but intense actor. However, he was already in The Double, from same author.
Cheng Xingnu and Arthur Chen already paired up with Dilraba for upcoming two dramas so maybe they won’t be able to work together so soon.
Zhang Linghe, hmmm would he want this role? Similarly, it might be Dylan Wang and Wu Lei, unlikely that they would to pick up this female protagonist drama….
It’s certainly not easy to match Dilraba Dilmurat. Who can play the Cold and Devastatingly Handsome Xie! The novel describes Xie Jing Xing as otherworldly handsome with a cold demeanor. Who can portray such complex, cool-headed, devastatingly handsome character

It would be a dream come true if Yang Yang and Dilraba were to do a costume drama together!
I hope hope they can work around the billing issue and that the script will be well-adapted.
Yang Yang cannot carry Xie Wei character. His acting has limitations. Xie Wei is a strong man…not just a pretty boy.
Why cant Xiao Zhan be in the selection?? I really feel he will suit the role. He has been building a fit body, he will suit this role.
With Dilraba as first billing? Forget about Xiao Zhan, I’m actually more shocked to see Yang Yang’s name here.Both men (whether you like them or not) just headlined successful non-romantic dramas this year, proving their strong position as leading men. Unless this production has a massive budget to pay both female and male leads equally high (which honestly feels unlikely, since Dilraba’s name is already a huge selling point), I don’t really see it happening..
I don’t think Xiao Zhan will take on the lead role in a female-centric idol drama anymore. The kind of dramas that’s rumored for him are all centered on the male lead and is more serious.

Yep. As much as I want to see Xiao Zhan in another costume drama, I think he does best in dramas with minimal focus on romance.

Imagine dropping that to play second fiddle to Dilraba of all people, in a costime drama, that is female centric. He would have to be either suddenly insane or senile.
I’d die for a Zhang Binbin Dilraba reunion. Both Yang Yang and Liu Yuning are so mid acting wise. But out of the two I’d still prefer YY, he at least is super handsome and matches the character description.
Zhang Binbin always has good chemistry with Diralba. That would be a nice pairing too. I like him a lot.
I think Li Xian or Fang Yilun would be better choices.
Li Xian or Zheng Ye Cheng! Age appropriate and handsome guys who can act. I honestly don’t mind Liu Yuning as I think he is handsome, but he needs a break from constant criticism
Zheng Yecheng is good too. As for Liu Yuning, I’m sorry to say I’m in the opposite camp regarding his visuals although I do like hearing him sing, he would do better in serious dramas which don’t require the male lead to be conventionally handsome.
@Lilith, as a long time fan of Singer Liu Yuning, I have no problems with his visual too. In fact, I remember telling myself, I bet he get ask to act but he likely rejected in his early days to focus on singing.
He is a fan and a friends of Richie Jen, who do both well. I dont understand the hatred towards his looks. He may not be top visual but in the right role, he is okay. But he is not a natural actor…he has limitations. Thus I dont watch all his dramas..only a couple.

If Yang Yang take it, you bet it will be equal billing and her team would not complain either.
Liu Yuning as this character is hilarious. Chinese already call him rat face. He doesn’t fit at all.
Yang Yang is not a good actor either but at least he looks the part and could at least partially carry this. But he would have to be second billed to Reba and he won’t.
So that leaves us with someone younger who will take the smaller role and second billing. Probably someone like ZLH or WXY.
Someone like Wang Xing Yue would be a better. Aesthetically he might not be super handsome but in a drama he knows how to become irresistible. Plus he got acting chop
I think it depends on the styling. No matter how pretty or handsome that person is, if the styling is off, he/she will be ugly..
Btw, how about Li Yun Rui or Tan Jian Ci? I think, if the styling is right, they should be ok, right? Same goes with Dylan Wang and Xu Kai (if he can make that comeback)
As for the Empress, although Dilraba is good, I was hoping for Zhao Lu So to be one. I just wish everything will be alright for this girl, but she needs to do everything properly, via legal.

Zhao Lu Si acting looks phony and fake whenever she tries and act more mature. Her acting looks particularly stiff in her latest aired drama William Chan

Why not Alen Fang? He’s handsome and can act. He’s also not super popular so he will be willing to take second billing.
Zhao jinmai would be better as shen miao, she can have empress aura (princess royal ) but also can have teenage aura.
Ci sha would be better as xie jingxing.
This novel is rebirth story soo must be change if adapt to drama,that mean the story when shen miao unconscious and enter to the past story would be change to and that story also important part
I tremble at the horror the adaptation will make of my favorite Chinese novel and how the character scenes will be rewritten.
But in a dream world, Zhao LuSi (Shen Miao was short, a dafthead before rebirth and like her current LA cunning persona with Last Immortal Empress bearing after rebirth) and Wang Xing Yue (cold and calculating and must have the most beautiful eyes and eyebrows in the world, per the author’s description. He can put on his Su Gong Gong eyeliner again and be maliciously ruthless with all, even Shen Miao, until he got kissed by the Drunken Empress one night, ha!)
But only if the adaptation is as close to the book as LYF Season 1 was to its story and not recognition of important plot points removed like Female General this year. Or it won’t do well.
Liu Yuning just does not have the face for idol period dramas where the ML is supposed to be on another level of handsome. He does not match with his gorgeous costars I’m sorry. He also does not have the acting chops to make up for his lack of visuals. A character who is described as other worldly beautiful isn’t casting someone like Tan Songyun or Wu Qian. I really like both of those actresses but they don’t fit that description visual wise, they’re both more girl next door types and there’s nothing wrong with that! I don’t see why casting keeps putting Liu Yuning into roles he is not suited for. I would still find his acting lacking, but if he were to play more normal dude type roles I don’t think people would have as many issues with him.
How about tian xuning, isn’t he high demand now?!
