Cheng Lei and Xu Ruo Han Start Filming Republic Era Period C-drama The Lament of Autumn
C-actor Cheng Lei gets another step up in his career this month with the filming commencement of his next drama where he is the top billed lead. The drama is titled The Lament of Autumn (玉簟秋 Yu Dian Qiu) and will star Xu Ruo Han as the female lead, a switch from the earlier in discussions Lu Yu Xiao which would have been a reunion of her with Cheng Lei from A Journey to Love. Fans were initially unenthused with Xu Ruo Han’s casting both those who wanted the reunion and others who think Xu Ruo Han isn’t suited for period fare since she has a very modern vibe and also gives off the sweet girl type image all the time. But the first poster came out and looks just gorgeous so naysayers have chimed down and now it’s just watching the filming proceed and then checking out the first preview.

No explanations make sense other than nepotism for any actors who don’t have either visual appeal nor acting chops to get lead roles again and again and again and over again.
C-Ent is extremely competitive, you can’t get jobs on nepotism only. Clearly Xu Ruohan is growing in popularity, her role in the Forbidden Flower was well received due to the great chemistry between leads that had a 20+ year age gap … other similar large age gaps were criticized but Xu Ruohan can act and make it work (even Jerry Yan her ML complimented her). You are telling me a no talent person can make that type of magic with 20 year age gap and still be well received, and she cannot act? Ok, clearly the people that cast her and her growing fan base do not share your opinion. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but watch her shows with an open mind, you appear to be biased for some reason. Also her last aired show “The Best Thing” is the #1 Chinese Drama across Iqiyi Global/Internationally. Ok again, a fact based rebuttal to your comments about nepotism !!!
Republican era at times is more closer to modern times anyways. Maybe not our modern times but a blend of modern and a touch of historical. She would look pretty nonetheless and probably no wigs and such that won’t match her features. It’s up to the script and directing because the male lead can act so far pretty darn well regardless.
The Republic era is a historical period, but it also marks the beginning of the modern age, so I don’t think there’s any issue for her. Besides, I find her pretty and not bad as an actress. As for Cheng Lei, I’m really glad he’s finally getting more recognition. Starting from smaller roles and slowly working his way up, getting noticed even as a 2nd lead, and now earning first billing. That’s honestly such a big achievement.

Im always happy to get any new material with Cheng Lei and Im kinda glad LYX didnt happen in this one… I couldnt feel their so called chemistry in that drama from before.
I dont like or dislike new actress.She is easy on the eyes and I wont comment on acting part because there are many leaked vids from set.Writing looks like one of those bad cliches anyway. Their acting would be enough to carry those scenes…
