The casting trading card game is moving fast with this one, which makes sense as filming is scheduled to commence in early October. A day after news that Song Joong Ki has ultimately passed on headlining screenwriter Kim Eun Hee‘s next drama Kingdom, a new leading man has been found in Joo Ji Hoon. He’s been primarily doing movies for the last 5 years, with only Mask being his most recent drama and it was back in 2015, but I think he’s a surprising but quite intriguing choice to do a sageuk thriller with zombie scares. Also in talks to join are Ryu Seung Ryong and Bae Doo Na, confirming that Kim Eun Hee is striving to make a dark serious drama and isn’t touching inexperienced rookies or idol-actors with a ten foot pole. Kingdom is slated as an 8-episode drama streaming on Netflex mid-2018.
Joo Ji Hoon’s role is that of the crown prince of Joseon investigating a spreading disease among the population and discovering a dark secret behind it, with Ryu Seung Ryong playing a character who wields more power than the King. Bae Doo Na is considering the female lead role which I assume will be kickass and worthy of her amazing acting skills.
I hope the female lead is Yoon Eun Hye! They should work again, forever Goong.
Ok now..Yoo Eun Hye is not a bad actress. But if this is a three actor ensemble like displayed in the picture. And I loved YEH in Coffee Prince and Goong.
But Bae Doona>>>>>>>>>>>Great Wall of China>>>> Yoo Eun Hye.Besides, this is a non-romance drama and YEH excels at rom coms.
@RubyRed If I could up-vote this comment, I’d up-vote this thousand times.
YEH isn’t at the level to get a project like this anymore.
I hope no idols are cast.
I hope this casting becomes a reality because it sounds so good.
This casting is legit daebak!
I think it will be interesting to see what the writer comes up with as she’ll have so much creative control. Have to admit I am a little over the zombies. Netflix obviously wants to build their subscription base in Korea. Don’t know if they will have much luck, but it’s good for me. ?
Amazing casting. Ryu Seung Ryung, Bae Doona, and Jo Ji Hoon are all brilliant. This is better casting than the previous one actually
I think I sort of get her casting style now.
An early 30s actor with two experienced actors/actresses, just like Signal.
Oh I love this actor ! This sounds really good 🙂
This is perfect. Now everyone sign on and lets get it cracking.I am so wishing this is a success.Daebak!!!!!
Oohh. I love Joo Ji Hoon…I miss him in K-drama land! This cast would be amazing!
I love this casting!
wow what a cast!!!
Joo Ji Hoon as a crown prince!Yessssssssssssssss please! That is way better than SJK.
The cast is perfect. Now fingers crossed Netflix wont mess this up!
I watched five fingers. Jjh acting was mediocre and boring
I’m not keen on him in the leading role either. Has he accepted? I should be thankful that no idol is headlining this right? Anyway, love the rest of the cast. Now that the writing is done for Kingdom, it’s time for Signal Season 2 !!!
Very excited about this cast line-up. Hope it pans out and we get another exceptional KEH drama with excellent script, great cast and strong direction. Can’t wait
I’m so happy Joo Ji Hoon is making a new drama. I have missed him.
This makes the drama 1000 times more interesting. The cast line up is a dream! 😀
now-i-have-a-reason-to-watch-this.
I-love-JooJiHoon.So-excited-for-BaeDoona-after-Stranger.
Thank-God,SoongJoongKi-refused-the-drama.
wow great casts ..
JJH was so bad as an actor(and yet kind of cute with YEH) in Goong but I like him in his new projects. Plus RSR and Bae Doona – who is definitely better than the Great Wall of China as Ruby Red says! After a long time I am interested in a K-drama, despite Netflix’s record.
What a great combination! Maybe this drama can be my mood booster after jealousy incarnate,
Great casts! Hopefully they all accept it.
