Meteor Garden 2018 Wraps Filming and Releases Awesome First Look at the Drama

I’m so in! The first teaser is out for Meteor Garden 2018, the TW/C-drama latest adaptation of the perennially popular shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers), and it looks like the ideal summer guilty pleasure drama watch. The drama is being produced by the same producer who did the 2001 Taiwan hit that launched so many careers of the leads, but this one is backed by Chinese money and a mostly C-acting cast, and will air on streaming channel iQiyi. Starring Shen Yue and Dylan Wang as the well-known characters of Tsukushi Makino/Shan Cai and Tsukasa Domyouji/Dao Ming Si, the drama finished filming at the end of March and released the first teaser shows BTS-footage that succeeds in raising the interest in how this version takes the story into yet another decade and the current modern sensibilities.

Meteor Garden 2018 Wraps Filming and Releases Awesome First Look at the Drama — 23 Comments

  1. Me too. Cant wait for this drama. Hua che lei has curly hair.. While tao ming tse has straight one. Whatever the style they have, gonna watch this one. Please be good, just be good!

      • but she can still call him zhutou…pig-headed! HAHAAH.

This is gonna be a blast to watch.

    • Dylan’s hair style as Daoming Si during their initial meet is called the pineapple hair and more accurate to the fruit style than outdated curls.

It’s set in the modern millennial era, not the old ’90s so they need a fresh look.

    • The guy with dark hair and undone tie is dao ming si (lead), the one with glasses is the one that will be with the best friend of shan cai’the brown hair guy in the midsle is rui that plays violin and the other is the womanizer one

      • Thank you very much !The picture let me think that the lead is the brown hair guy, so I was a little bit confuse.

The one with glasses is pretty handsome !

  2. Is that me or I feel they are following the Japanese version ? Some scenes reminds me of the MaoTsujun ones namely in the 2nd season

    • all scenes look familiar, if you have watched the Korean version as well… But I am glad the female lead here is a lot cuter than the Korean lead… For the male lead, I prefer the Japanese version more…

  3. Don’t care if the scenes are recognisable. The cast looks good and dressed appropriately. And thank goodness the gowns looks better. The previous versions has the female dressed in awful awful dresses.

Just please act well, be directed well and not too campy… and I will be a happy fan.

  4. I loved the korean version, fun to watch and i loved watching GHS and the guys. At the same time, i loved the japanese version, MJ,OS and our beloved heroine ( i stalked many of their dramas and movies). The only version i didnt watch was Meteor Garden. I felt it was too serious.

  5. So it seems this version will follow the manga closely, I can see the holiday in Canada arc, Tsukasa doing the dance in NY street and Tsukasa been stabbed (both not exist in any previous other version).
The wedding scene may be from when Tsukushi unconcious in snow (or will they end it with wedding like j-version conclude it in the movie.
Oh, I hope they will include the sushi guy as well here (another rich kid who fall for Tsukushi but already has fiance, I like that guy).

  6. people obsession over meteor garden is beyond me. I tried watching the korean version, could not finish, tried to watch the japanese version after some people said it’s better than korean…couldn’t go pass episode 3. Really don’t get the hype.

    • You’re joking right?

Meteor Garden set the template of idol dramas of major popularity in Asian and was the first to adapt the manga as a drama series. While it was set in Taiwan and had a limited budget, fans were all over the F4 actors and created that “oppa craze” long before Koreans stars made a dent with Hallyu.

China is already starting to create their own idol formula and while it’s still a work in progress, it’s replacing a lot of the niche Korean entertainers that used to make China their easy money.

The new Mainland adaptation has much more money than all the previous versions because it caters to their current high class society today. Taiwan is only co-credited in name only because original MG producing is headlining this reboot.

  7. Hmm I will give this a chance…..though the 2011 NHZGG remake really butchered HZGG for me. I will give this a chance and hoping that it will do justice to the original Meteor Garden…….though I will always like the classics and original (though they were low budget).

  8. I watched the Original Taiwan version when I’m in my early 20s ,along the years watched the Japanese version ,Korean Version , this year 2018, me and my girlfriends looking forward to the China Version together with our teenage daughters . Lol . Looking forward .. am sure it will be more posh with the input of money coming into the series .

  9. Can anyone tell me where are these locations they film in Shanghai? I will visit Shanghai soon it seems nice to see familiar places in the film LOL
