The comparatively smaller scale zombie movie #Alive did well in the box office last month when it premiered thanks to a dearth of new movies and movie going in the preceding few months. Plus a zombie thriller feels just like the escapist entertainment moviegoers would be keen on, staying home due to COVID-19 doesn’t look so bad compared to a zombie outbreak apocalypse. The next zombie film is the bigger, badder, and more high profile Peninsula, premiering next week on July 15th as the long awaited sequel to hit Train to Busan. None of the original cast is back since most everyone died and also this story picks up 4 years later in a dystopian Seoul overrun with zombies and scrappy survivors. Kang Dong Won may be the male lead and the muscle but he kinda looks lost and it’s the female lead Lee Jung Hyun and especially scene stealing teen Lee Re who look in charge. Lee Re was the younger sister character in Memories of Alhambra and totally lit up that show whenever she was in a scene so I’m super excited she adds another reason to check out Peninsula.
Trailer for Peninsula:
I’m a huge fan of Train to Busan. But I’ll be skipping this sequel. Part of the storyline involves a bunch of crazed people who take people as prisoners, setting zombies loose on them as these cruel people enjoy watching people eaten alive? That’s just too cruel. No thanks.
