The year long continuation of COVID-19 has enacted its toll in good and bad ways with respect to marriage. I see surprise marriages, not surprising pregnancies, and sad announcements of divorce. Mandarin-speaking news coverage is calling it a triple whammy of divorce news all coming in about a week – C-stars Feng Shao Feng and Zhao Li Ying, ping pong royalty Fukuhara Ai and Chiang Hung Chieh, and now Japanese actors Maeda Atsuko and Katsuji Ryo. The last couple has been on marriage death watch since the very onset of their marriage, from Ryo basically being a child in a man’s body to Atsuko last summer cutting her hair super short and photographed not wearing her wedding ring. They are the parents to a little boy and she’s reportedly getting full custody. It’s another reminder that marriage to super good looking and wealthy individuals is not enough to make it work, stars are humans too and alas the curse of the young marriage takes another one.
