Korean Big Three Networks Announce Ban on Yoo Ah In and Police Investigation Reveals His Propofol Injections were 10 Times More Volume Per Shot than Normal Dosage

I was thinking that Yoo Ah In‘s arrest and investigation into propofol abuse was probably the wake up call he needed but now I think it probably saved his life. K-ent is reporting that his propofol use was 73 times over the course of one year and the volume was 4400 milliliters worth. They have averaged that out to around 60 milliliters per injection but the normal propofol dosage for surgery and procedures is between 5-10 milliliters is all that is needed. So he was getting nearly 10 times or more per dosage in his abuse of the surgical grade anesthetic. I think the doctor(s) who prescribed and injected him need to be investigated and held accountable because there is no way any sane doctor would be injecting him with this high a dosage, even if he was doctor shopping and going to various clinics and hospitals to get his injections so some doctors would not get suspicious. K-ent is also reporting that the Big Three networks MBC, SBS, and KBS have formally banned Yoo Ah In from appearing on any program.

  1. I hope he gets the help he needs. His self-destruction is so severe that he needs to be under constant surveillance. It’s a wonder he is still alive and not dead through overdose or suicide. So tragic. I do not belive in addict’s punishment unless the harm others. The harm they do to themselves is greater than any punishment can do. Drug addiction is a wasted life. Life is sacred. We have just one. He probably needs years in a closed psychiatry facility with appropriate treatment. Poor soul

  2. This is a major wake up call for YAI. May he receive the help he needs. I can only wish him well in his recovery. I will miss him onscreen but health is more important for everyone then anything.

  3. this is beyond my expectations like I was expecting him to have used it a bit more than necessary or that there were some technical issues (a la park bom) but this is extreme enough to make me wonder how he isn’t dead yet. he clearly needs help, and whoever the hell procured this much of the drug for him needs a good decade or so in jail. I don’t know how he reached this point, especially as a celeb whose career is contingent upon a good image, but I wish him well in his recovery.

  4. I hope he’s able to get on a substance abuse program which includes counseling so that he can know what is the trigger for him to use and find better ways to manage it.

  5. You’re right that being caught saved his life. He was probably going to die like how Michael Jackson did if he wasn’t caught soon. I’m really curious about the doctors doing all those injections. How do you get prescribed propofol outside of having surgery or needing some other medical procedure? Would he just get unnecessary medical procedures all the time? Like what would you say to a doctor in order for them to be like “5 milligrams of propofol for you!”

It’s also sad because it’s not like you can get a happy fumes effect with propofol as with marijuana. He’s probably addicted to it for insomnia, anxiety, and maybe even pain.

  6. I truly hope he gets the help he needs. I am also truly appalled the doctor actually gave him that amount.

I work and give propofol in the course of work but I am sad reading all this news. I don’t even follow his movies or dramas but just reading what he use tells me I hope he has the a supportive circle and that he gets some doctors with somee ethics which can help him.

I would go overseas if I have to face any judgemental calls and invasions of privacy. But he won’t be allowed to travel so I hope his future treatment team has respect for privacy. Once the legal side is done.

    • It’s doctors, not just doctor. He went hospital hopping to get prescriptions and that’s what tipped off the authorities because the frequency of the visits and prescriptions showed the dosage he got went way beyond the regulated limit. He needs serious intervention but also has to face legal consequences of his actions. His agency needs to step up because they’ve hung him out to dry since day 1 of this investigation. But like Ju Jihoon before him, he is too talented not to come back to acting after some self-reflection and rehab and help from a support system that will lookout for his well-being.

  7. Could he be sharing that much propofol? I mean if it was just himself he would have been dead by now. How much propofol did michael jackson take that killed him?

    • The maximum dosage should be 4mg/kg/hour for an adult. MJ injected himself with a 25mg dose of propofol.

They both were self-harming, it’s not a wake up call, they simply wanted to get out for a while no matter what and it won’t help they treat YAI now as a criminal. Whether it’s insomnia or depression, there was none there for them, so what’s gonna change?

  8. Yeah, this investigation probably saved his life. He should get the medical and mental treatment he needs. I don’t know if the laws in korea imposes jail time for this. In our country, propofol is a controlled medical drug. The abuse of it is a crime. They should also punish his enablers from the doctors who gave him the drugs, to his friends and assistants who helped him procure it.

  9. This amount is quiet high. It must have fatal symptoms. But he seems quiet fine by appearance. May be he is not buying p* for just himself.
