C-ent Buzzing About Xianxia Drama The Longest Promise with Xiao Zhan and Ren Min Scheduling for May 2023 Airing

I love writing about potential airing dates for The Longest Promise and then getting disappointed because the title just writes itself lol. The xianxia teacher-student romance drama with Xiao Zhan and Ren Min is back in the news due to a recent C-ent serious rumor that it’s scheduling for a May 2023 airing. This drama has been both highly anticipated and highly delayed, and that combo will either make the eventual premiere a massive hit or letdown. Either way seeing Xiao Zhan do his best cold but hot inside rendition of teacher knows best is can’t miss television.

C-ent Buzzing About Xianxia Drama The Longest Promise with Xiao Zhan and Ren Min Scheduling for May 2023 Airing — 49 Comments

  1. Oh boy, the cdramas that aired this year has so far been somewhat disappointing. I don’t have high hopes for this one, either. But if this is the only costume drama airing in May, then I’ll still catch it. Just hoping that as we move into the later half of this year, we get some more surprising, better ones. Nothing has topped LBFAD or LLTG in terms of quality for me yet – still holding on to hope!

      • I did watch Starry Love! I thought it was a cute slow burn drama. They butchered the ending a bit though. As far as quality goes, it was cute; I liked all the leads. But it’s not a drama I would reco to get you addicted (unless you’re someone who has low tolerance for high drama.)

    • What is LLTG? I tried LBFAD SEVERAL times but failed to go beyond ep3. LOL. Would ppl PLZ tell me what good LBFAD is about? Much appreciated. I’m not the one for body swap though. I tried to watch the Untamed in 2019 but gave up right after ep1. LOL again. Not until 2022 did I try watching the Untamed again after tons of recommendations from other international fans. Surprisingly I was hooked after sticking through ep3. But the same wonder did not happen to me when trying to watch LBFAD though.

      • @Somebody It’s Love Like The Galaxy. I enjoyed the chemistry between Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei. It leans more towards a maturer audience even if the leads are younger. The storyline was well developed and engaging.

LBFAD is slightly juvenile in the beginning, but it gets better and less annoying as the plot progresses. I know some can’t stand the FL’s voice, but for me, her voice is endearing and really befits her personality in the drama (someone mentioned disney-like and it’s very true.)

      • @Somebody It’s not just you – I tried really hard to get into The Untamed because of all the rave reviews, but try as I might, I just couldn’t understand the hype. I was onto like episode 10 or something and still not really driven to finishing it. Maybe someday though.

      • @Coralie, ah you caught me. Thanks. I love LLTG. That’s perhaps the only one C costume drama I’ve ever finished without skipping one scene since the Untamed. FL’s voice was part of the turn-off for me to stick to LBFAD. I did try to watch her drama with Vin Zhang and eventually quit after like ep8 for the same reason. LOL. But that’s not the major factor for me to decide if dropping a drama or not. I kinda always got bored with Chinese drama midway through. Now I just finished several K dramas an may give LBFAD another try. I like Dylan Wang’s acting in another costume drama though even though I also quit at the midway.

BTW, I won’t use “Somebody” as my account name again cuz one very obnoxious nobody faked my account name, disguising as Xiao Zhan’s fan to make toxic comments about Song Joong Ki. I know she is a fan of LYX though because of the same pattern of swearing words in her comments and she hates Xiao Zhan as well as his fans. I’ve seen similar behavior on Chinese social media.

      • @Jussuru thank you! I think my opinions were pretty level. It’s the hardcore fans that have to drag everyone down for even the smallest of critiques. Esp when I didn’t mention it’s the actor’s fault – simply the PLOT which is super cliche and tropey. I also think it’s generally pretty creepy to develop teacher/student relationship, but hey, that’s me.

      • @Authentic Somebody – I think you and me have similar tastes in dramas lol. Especially when you commented about Leo a while back and I agreed with you then. And then ya know, loving LLTG.

I do think you should give LBFAD a try; if not for the female lead, Dylan was also amazing in it. I saw him recently in Never Give Up (hilarious modern cdrama/sitcom based off a Kdrama and manhwa – if you can understand Chinese and have patience to stick around after episode 2, it’s comedy gold) and the difference between him in LBFAD and NGU is incredible.

      • Oh sorry. The fake “Somebody” I mentioned is said to be a fan of Yang Yang, not LYX though. LOL. Several site visitors have discovered her underhanded schemes. This psychopath “Somebody” has created fan war in the forum and she claimed to be so proud of it.

Koala, you know her email addresses and should ban her from making comments on your blogs. Thanks.

    • Lol how would you know if this is a good or bad drama, when none of us have seen it, never mind seeing “better” ones later.

Your stan is showing. C for effort.

      • @Lol uhhh maybe cus the plot’s been redone about a gazillion times? Srsly you make me LOL if you don’t see cliches already from a mile away. I have yet to see any teacher-disciple drama that doesn’t use the old tropes of cold teacher and warm student. It’s just too much at this point

      • It cold be a complete disaster, it could be really good. We won’t know until we actually see it, especially considering the novel was extensively rewritten for this.

I don’t even have to think twice over why you are so bitter in advance but it is just so hilarious.

      • @Coralie Defensive fans in the face of harmless comments are a case I will never understand. I was reading the novel on which The Longest Promise was based and it has common tropes here and there. I got half way through, I got bored with how generic it was.

      • @Lol well it’s certainly not off to a good start with that tropey and cliche character setting. I’m realistic, not idealistic.

    • @sylvia artists require an audience who wants to watch to make money. Can’t believe I have to state the obvious. It IS his honor if I want to watch – same as any other drama.

    • @Sylvia

      Ahahahahahahahahaha

Imagine being a nobody and having the ego the size of China. Don’t worry, he isn’t losing money because an anti is butthurt over his drama.

    • @Sylvia so don’t comment on my comment then. Nobody gives your 2cents any importance anyways, according to your drivel 😛

@Lol I just can’t with you lol. You make me Lol. Really apt name

  2. Tencent has cried so much wolf for this drama that I don’t want to get my hopes up until it actually airs an episode. I’m really interested in this drama though as Xiao Zhan and Ren Min both have the acting chops and Xiao Zhan looks extremely fine in hanfu costumes.

  3. They delayed this premiere for two years (?) for no obvious reasons. It’s been overdue. Although Xiao Zhan is my fave and I usually don’t skip any of his dramas, I’m not sure if TLP will meet high expectation from fans. It’s said that the storyline is very similar to those of many old Xianxia dramas in the past. I found myself always appealed to good directing and good scriptwriting first, the rest comes next, cast and acting included. For example, I enjoyed XZ’s acting in the Oath of Love, but not so much the plot and the directing of the series. The trailer of TLP does look ethereally beautiful. I hope the series doesn’t disappoint me when it’s premiered.

    • YGY was a compromise on XZ part. TC was pushing like crazy to have a nugu actress of their choice carried by him but he wouldn’t budge. In the end, they agreed on Ren Min because while relatively unknown, she can act.

For the drama itself she actually has the most problematic part. In the book her character is annoying af but pretty reliable info says they changed over 50% of the original novel so maybe they improved her role. It would be a pity if she was stuck with the classic infuriating dumb FL. The book does have quite a bit of career plot for Shiying and the drama was redone to focus on him so we can only be hopeful.

As for why it has been delayed, the then management was not particularly inclined towards him and they had to promote their princess at prime time. Airing YGY would have destroyed any enthusiasm that existed for that. I have to admit that I am pleased that they got invited to tea not once, but twice, over the unethical bs from that time. It also triggered the current clean up of Tencent video. We will see what comes out of that.

Xiao Zhan is free of Tencent now so that is a big bonus. I am really not surprised he ran, much like Yang Mi. I am also more than curious about the melon about his next project, whether the pretty persistent info is true or not.

      • Oh thanks for that information. I usually don’t pay much attention to C showbiz even though I’m perfect in Chinese.

BTW, were you ever taken for “Lol,” another blog visitor using this account name? I’ve recently just found that another site visitor has also been using my account name “Somebody” to make very obnoxious comments since I openly admitted myself a fan of Xian Zhan. The most disturbing is that she pretends as a fan of Xiao Zhan and dissed other artists with malicious remarks with swearing words and cussing. I found someone using “Lol” exhibiting similar behaviors on this site. I wonder if these lunatic netizens are actually Xiao Zhan antis cuz I’ve seen this kind of psychopaths A LOT on Chinese social media. They stole the online identities of Xiao Zhan’s fans and littered garbage everywhere on social media. It appears that they want everyone to hate the artist and his fans.

      • I pay more attention to cent gossip and talk than to actual cdramas. It is the kind of crazy that can’t be found anywhere else so it can be very entertaining. I actually really sympathise with international fans because one, it is so easy to feed them false info and two, even if they want to try researching themselves, it is almost impossible without Mandarin.

Anyway, yeah, months ago i posted as lol but then in one thread 4 other showed up and it was a madhouse so I switched to this. So far, so good. It doesn’t necessarily have to be malicious that someone used the same name as you but at the same time turtles and toilets have a long history of impersonating Xiao Zhan fans and stirring trouble in this way so it is definitely possible. Chinese socials have been absolutely insane in the last ten days or so because he has something new coming that it wouldn’t surprise me if it happened to you.

      • LOL. I’m already quite entertained by your quips about C social media. I’m just too busy to invest time on that. But I did come across SEVERAL suspicious visitors of this site who (claimed to be Xiao Zhan’s fans and) made offensive remarks to obviously draw hate against Xiao Zhan and fans like me instead. I’ve be told numerous times that 227 was staged by XZ’s antis but a bit skeptical or, no way to verify it. Now, I believe that’s very possible since I myself have just been experiencing lunacy coming from deranged people after admitting myself a fan of XZ. LOL

      • Saying it was staged by antis simplifies what happened. At this point, everyone in Chinese rice circles knows what happened. It is very clear.

When XZ exploded, culminating with Jade Dynasty and the massive money return on a pitiful investment, various parties became very unhappy that he has control and generates so much capital, yet none of them were controlling him.

This have birth to 227, in the sense that they attacked him with the goal of then diverting fans (and all that money) to other chosen actors (and various smaller fish who wanted in on the action) plus his endorsements. These were two big camps, one smaller plus the tiny ones I mentioned. So antis acted out this game thought up by big capital behind certain parties.

They did not count on xz fans being mostly employed adults who saw through it, organised and dug in. In the end, xz himself was clean as a whistle so nothing stuck and fans weathered this with him which basically cemented his massive fan base. God of Wealth, as he is called in China, passed through the storm, much stronger. Talk about a boomerang.

But in the end, this whole thing was about one thing and one thing only – money. Anyway, antis are still very active but more or less, the battle he fought was won and these days their tricks don’t work anymore because we have all seen it already in 2020 during the worst of it. Impersonating his fans and stirring trouble is very common but these days, very easy to figure out.

  4. Tbh I don’t believe it. The more persistent talk was about Xiao Zhan’s drama Where Dreams Begin and it airing in May. They won’t overlap two of his dramas. I would like to see it but I don’t think it’s true.

This was talked about for June or July, with the CB with Yang Zi going after it in August. Seems more plausible but Tencent is in a complete mess because of that corruption clean up that was mostly triggered by final mess from last summer and all they did there.

There is a new leadership, so maybe they will actually play it smart this time. I am not holding my breath though.

  5. I have high expectations for Ren Min’s acting because she was fantastic in Cry Me A Sad River and Serenade of Peaceful Joy.

    • LOL. I don’t see any chemistry between XZ and your idle in any trailers of the Untamed either. CP fans are delusional.

  6. The Longest Promise hasn’t even been released and already we have loud and obnoxious fans attacking those who have no praise for the trailer and/or the actors.

    • It is normal, especially considering the happenings from last summer. So you will have the usual anti crowd plus the crowd of a particular drama that screamed about their biggest hit ever. Unfortunately their biggest hit ever never even hit 3 on Datawin and now finally when YGY might air, they aren’t particularly happy.

  7. I haven’t been able to finish any drama featuring Xiao Zhan but I like Ren Min so I’ll give it a chance for her. I just hope her character is not limited to being a damsel in distress.

  8. Haven’t watched the trailer so unable to comment but just based on the pics, the two leading seem somehow odd as a couple.

  9. @Somebody in disguise, When did my account name get stolen by a rude nobody? LOL You’re definitely not speaking for me. Hahahaha

  10. The chemistry that Xiao Zhan had with Wang Yibo has not been surpassed by any of their female co-stars. The Untamed is extremely popular for that reason.

    • Lmao Xiao Zhan has more chemistry with a lamp post than your hopeless illiterate idol. Stop leeching off of Xiao Zhan already.

  11. I also love the movie if Xiao Zhan entitled “The Untamed”. I really salute his acting skills. Back when I was watching the movie “the Wolf” I did not pay much attention to it but when Xiao Zhan’s character appears, I couldn’t help but laugh, cry get mad and everything.

    • Me too,in the beginning I was fan of the Mo dao zu shi and read the manga, and it was one of most beautiful story I have ever read, and I’m a bookworm, but when I saw the untamed I fall in love with Xiao Zhan, he’s my perfect Wei Wuxian, every time I see something new with him I fall for him all over again. He is just perfect in everything, from singing to advertising and a theater actor to.
