C-ent Reports that Long Completed Period C-drama The Golden Hairpin Will Re-shoot with New Male Lead in Person with Female Lead Yang Zi

Man, I don’t know if this is throwing good money in with the lost money or a chance to double down and recoup. I’ll leave the odds to the production company of The Golden Hairpin C-drama adaptation which is reporting this week that a new male lead will be cast and he will film in person with female lead Yang Zi who will return for the re-shoot. None of the supporting cast will be needed for re-shoots, just her, with the drama story and scenes cut from 60 plus episodes down to 40 episodes to make this work. I’m guessing the OTP scenes can’t use AI face swapping but the scenes with original male lead and now convicted criminal Wu Yi Fan (Kris Wu) with a larger cast can use AI face swapping. So the male lead will film in person with Yang Zi and then film other scenes against a green screen for the face swapping. No confirmation yet on who the new male lead will be though Lin Geng Xin‘s name has been mentioned before.

  1. Depends on the percentage i guess. If the lost money is a much larger sum than the new money thrown in and the drama quality is good enough, then it’s reasonable for the production company to take the gamble. Isn’t the name The Golden Hairpin though?

  3. The Korean version was MEH. I really like the novel so i do hope any adaptation will not ruin the story.

Im glad that they finally continue the production but then, the lost… cost… profit… hmm… next time, do a research before casting an actor.

  4. I am in awe at how much more the production would shell out for these new filming. But maybe this is a blessings in disguise since they are basically doing a do over. I do hope is that they get an able actor.
His acting could never be at par for male lead roles vs his acting talent that could never scrape an ounce of emotion. His fall from grace due to his criminal acts was something to behold, good riddance.

  5. Yang Zi has co-stared with so many actors and some of her dramas repeated similar images of her that I’m getting indifferent to her works. She becomes boring.

    • She’s typecasted, but I wouldn’t have a problem if her choices were about well-written female characters.

      • Yep I noticed that too. Is it because she is child actress? She keeps being offered similar character

And I wonder why yang zi isn’t attempting a transformation. Although it’s true getting the resources for it would be hard

      • I feel like ppl talk like this bcs you’ve only seen few of her dramas, I’m sure you’ve seen AOL, OOL and maybe Ode to Joy and feel like she only plays a cute girl in dramas, but pls check out her other works and you will see her playing mature roles. Dramas/movies like: bodies at rest, Insistence, Legend Of Chusen, The bravest, where are all the time, the psychologist and you will see her playing very mature roles
I’m not here to fight with anyone though. I come in peace pls🙏🙏

  6. Googled The Golden Compass and got information about the British TV series. Nothing about a Chinese drama series with that name.

Kris Wu can’t act so it’s not a loss. Who will want to be associated with this mess thought?

  7. I thought the only reason why this is posted is because LGX is pretty much confirmed by all sources. But the first trailer sucked as far as I can remember so I don’t really know how refilming just Kris Wu’s parts can help.

  8. There is no sign of this drama being re-filmed. It’s just smoke from the production company. They have been buying up hot searches continuously but no real intentions to film a good drama. They chose the wrong male lead initially and the way they treated Yang Zi throughout the whole saga was despicable.
