Youku Announces Premiere of Xianxia C-drama The Princess and the Werewolf with Chen Zhe Yuan and Wu Xuan Yi for July 20th

Oh my lord what fresh hell is this? I wrote about how C-ent was discussing the xianxia romance C-drama Go Princess Go 2 (also known as The Princess and the Werewolf) was also going to be part of the airing drop this summer of 2023. Well that rumor is true and Youku will premiere the drama going by the English title of The Princess and the Werewolf on July 20th so in two days. The new posters was just so bad even I could do it on photoshop and the preview made me cringe so badly for Chen Zhe Yuan, who is coming off a well-received performance and hit drama in summer romance Hidden Love but takes a giant step backward starring in this low rent beyond silly looking production. It was filmed in mid-2021 hence he was probably in the accept any drama that comes his way phase while female lead Wu Xuan Yi hasn’t improved much in recent dramas highly doubt she was better when filming this. On the upside there has been so many turds in this summer airing flood such as Divine Destiny, Twilight, Snow Eagle Lord, Beauty of Resilience, and Back From the Brink that this one will just be another blip.

  1. I actually enjoyed Back From the Brink… while both leads acting could still use a lot of improvement, they had decent chemistry and 90% of the time the main characters acted like logical people (rare for dramaland). There was one turn in the story that I felt was stupid and uncharacteristic of the male lead. But otherwise, I liked the story. Not a perfect drama, but don’t think it was a complete disaster either…

  2. I don’t think this has any effect on Chen Zhe Huan honestly. How many times have we seen an actor star in a hit drama and then one random low budget drama he starred in in the past starts airing. So no problem for him.

Aren’t you writing this off a little bit too early though, Koala? Because it’s low budget doesn’t mean it won’t be good although I doubt it’ll be but we should atleast keep an open mind.

    • I don’t mind if it’s low budget film as long as the acting of both leads are solid, but seing it’s FL is Wu Xuan Yi, I’ll probably should lower my expectations, no offense. What I’m looking forward is Chen ZheYuan’s new drama “Dark Night and Dawn” because Xing Fei is in it and she’s quite good actually.

    • And it’s the cdrama industry. If this drama doesn’t get any attention or get bad attention, this drama will probably finish airing in like 3 weeks, which won’t take up a lot of space in people’s memories. I think the best time to release a potential dud is probably right after a hit to get it over with. And he has like a bunch of other dramas already produced or in the works, so I’m not worried. Dylan Wang’s less buzzy post-LBFAD work didn’t diminish his star power either.

Also Go Princess Go was 2015-low-budget quality which is even worse than 2021-low-budget quality and became a hit. So who knows!

  3. I’ll skip this one. The FL was so bad in Douluo Continent. She ruined the drama.

  4. The movie is actually nice….. and I can’t wait for the rest, so pls stop saying negative things about the main actor and actress cuz they’re really nice 🥰🥰🥰
