iQiyi Premieres Xianxia C-drama Love You Seven Times with Ding Yu Xi and Yang Chao Yue

So I thought with a two week break without a new period C-drama drop this summer of 2023 the premiere train stopped but today iQiyi doesn’t mind being late to the party as it premiered Love You Seven Times. Starring Ding Yu Xi and Yang Chao Yue, this is one lead pairing that has a negative appeal to me but it’s totally personal dislike so you do you if you find this drama looks interesting. Ding Yu Xi’s face is not my dish and kinda actively repels me with those extra wide set eyes and Yang Chao Yue can’t act her way out of a paper bag scribbled with directions, so having these two in a classic pew pew pew lights, pastels, and flowery overkill type of xianxia has me skipping unless the early reviews are raving because at the end of the day a good drama trumps all.

  1. In terms of looks, Ding Yuxi not my ideal male lead in Wuxia or Xianxia. Yang Chao Yue looks pretty as always. Surprisingly i find this drama is fairly breezy and entertaining for me after two episodes. I think she suits this type of roles as I don’t find her annoying or boring here compared to her recent role Journey of Chongze.

  2. Ding Yu Xi is not my cup of tea in looks Department but he has his little charm when acting. As for Yang Chao Yue, I think she is very pretty & cute looking but I haven’t seen her acting before but judging from the comments here, her acting isn’t people’s favorites . I will still give this a try though & see if it’s interesting.

  3. I feel so much less lonely in my corner knowing that someone else feels Ding Yu Xi is not aesthetically pleasing. But as an actor, he isn’t the worst and can carry a drama. However, sticking him as lead in one of my fav novels along with wooden YCY is a recipe for disaster. I despair that they paired these two up for something I was looking forward to when the project was first announced. It’s a disgrace to what LBFAD was.

I’ve seen the first 4 episodes and while I love the color palette, the rest is utterly forgettable. I’m disappointed and also upset why they selected YCY as FL. If they selected someone else, it could’ve made a huge difference. She is just SO wooden.

    • YCY and Cheng Xiao compete for being two of the worst actresses in C-ent. And agree, Ding Yu Xi just doesn’t have the visual of a romantic male lead, but at least he’s serviceable acting-wise. Production should have went with unknown leads instead.

  4. YCY acting style “When in doubt whine and pout.” It can be cute for about 5 minutes with a child but watching a grown-ass woman doing it for 30+ episodes is too much to endure.

  5. I binged watch 8 episodes and I’ve been liking it so far. Yang Chaoyue is actually quite alright to my surprise because I read so many bad comments about her acting. She’s cute and telegenic, refreshing on screen. Ding Yu Xi is quite good looking to me, not the handsome type like Yang Yang but he has appeal much the same as Zhang Zheyuan. And he can act and carry sweet scenes regardless of who the FL is. This is what I observed after having watched a few of his dramas. Also he did well in I Am Actor show so I would think he has good acting chops. As for YCY maybe she suits a light comedic role to begin with. The drama is starting to get serious so let’s see if she delivers. But the veteran actors are really supporting the younger stars well here. The OSTs and CGIs are good so far.

    • I think Ding Yuxi is very good looking! I think people have gotten used to dramas where it’s hard to tell the male and female lead apart.

  6. I think Ding Yuxi is a great actor, and I have a soft spot for him since Legend of Tiger and Rose. But I agree with everyone above that his visuals aren’t my type. He’s definitely not ugly by any means either. For some reason he just looks really petite to me even though he’s supposedly almost 6 feet tall.

I watched Yang Chaoyue when she was competing in Produce. My first impression was this girl is super cute. I also find her personality endearing and funny, but gawd she literally has no talent. She can’t dance or sing but debuted as #3. I thought maybe acting will be her thing, but she’s definitely not there yet. This drama might work for her because her real personality is pretty goofy and cute. It’s her emotional scenes or when she turns “dark” like in Chongzi that it’s quite apparent that she has no idea how to act.

  7. I want to watch this C-drama “Love You Seven Times’ because of Ding Yuzi but the voice of Yang Chaoyue or the dubbing is putting me off. Don’t they do an audio check first? Her voice is annoying and so nasal when she was whiney or crying.

  8. DIng Yuxi isnt the pretty boy type but his acting is excellent. But YCY… why she keeps getting the lead role?

Im currently watching Lost You Forever and this drama. I cant help but comparing these two… from acting department, visual… chemistry to cinematography… LYF wins.

The only thing that keep me watching this drama is bcuz of Ding Yuxi.

    • LYF is a big production/ has bigger budget, and experienced actors with higher talent fees. It’s not fair to compare. But visual wise I think LYST is just as good, but a much younger cast.

  9. I finished the drama and I love it! Ding Yuxi is fabulous, all of his scenes are on point and his acting is just so convincing. In terms of appearance, I find him very cute and handsome, I’m a fan! And since I get to know more about him, his real life personality is just SO sweet, kind-hearted and ridiculously ADORABLE. He’s so down to earth and funny because he can be a little awkward, which makes him all the more lovable really. While Yang Chaoyue’s is weak in the first story arc, I noticed her acting improved as the story goes on!

I find the Ding Yuxi and Yang Chaoyue quarrel-couple pairing very cute! Look at this behind the scenes here, it’s just off the chart cute!
