Disney+ K-drama Moving a Major Hit with Chinese Speaking Audiences as Douban Ratings Rise to Incredibly High 8.8

The hype and love for K-drama Moving continues through 13 episodes with still more runway with a 20-episode scheduled run on Disney+. I loved the high school kids section but the parents is even more heart wrenching so it’s just a drama that keeps getting better and better. K-netizens love it but even C-netizens feel the same way and that doesn’t happen often. The drama currently has a 8.8 on Douban and that rating was reaching after it opened lower and kept going up. C-language publications are also calling the K-drama this year’s Squid Game and I’ve heard that in multiple areas due to the strong feedback and high production values of the drama. Tomorrow Wednesday comes two more new episodes with what is likely the time lines dovetailing to the present day with the parents and kids moving forward with the current risk.

Disney+ K-drama Moving a Major Hit with Chinese Speaking Audiences as Douban Ratings Rise to Incredibly High 8.8 — 6 Comments

  1. This drama touch about humanity, human right, freedom, all kind of love, friendship and family. Focus more about human aspect than special ability. It is not about saving the world with fancy character and villain. It is about saving yourself and family. Nice touch about human emotion element. Every main character have their own story so we can understand more about them.

  2. Yay for the Moving cast & production. Its truly a very good drama w/ movie-like quality in terms of acting, writing & directing. I love the nuanced stories of both HS kids and their parents, as well the actors’ acting specially the sunbaes, they’re movie actors afterall! Their onscreen charisma really are superb πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ€©πŸ€©

  3. Lol. The drama is good, but why does it need to use China to boast about its success? Foreign dramas always get higher ratings on Douban, because no one in China bothers to buy black/negative marketing for them, which also makes it easier for them to buy positive marketing for themselves in China.

Just look at the number of raters, only 25k, or 30k now that I went to take a look. That’s a very small number if you compare with TTEOTM (353k), LLTG (558k), LBFAD (716k) and The Untamed (1.75m).

    • Two months after its first episode aired, Moving has 8.9 rating from 115k+. The most recent drama you mentioned is from half a year ago. LLTG is more than one year old and The Untamed is from 2019. Many people don’t do live watchings and other learn about dramas later (especially foreign ones with probably 0 poblicity). Numbers build over time.
Also, it was not the drama’s team themselves using China to boost anything. It already got good reviews and high numbers in the rest of the world. They have no reason to bother. And frankly, China is irrelevant to K-ent because they can’t profit at all even if Chinese people like their stuff. If the production team is even aware, they’ll at most feel a little smug because of their nonsensical national rivalry but that’s all.

  4. Thank u for stating this @ lilith , the show is a success but there was no use to use the Chinese rating system because most of the time they r not honest at all. They favor other countries shows and their lesser know actors compared to their well know. Most time they rate some shows low because of various reasons, due to the amount of fans they have, haters, there is something they don’t about an actor n so on. I dont take their ratings serious, I will tell audience to enjoy shows that interesting to u.
