Deng Wei Sheds His Sweet Jing Image in Lost You Forever for Dark Bad Boy Look in New C-drama Xian Tai You Shu

I actually think it’s a lot harder to play a nice male lead and make him interesting than to do the archetypal bad boy lover which usually comes across as more exciting onscreen. To which I mean Jing in Love You Forever may be the sweet constant but bad boy Xiang Liu is the X-factor. Kudos to Deng Wei for making Jing come alive onscreen even more impactfully than on the page but he’s shedding that image for his next C-drama as the male lead of Xian Tai You Shu (Tree on Fairy’s Platform). I haven’t read the novel so no clue what his character arc is but it’s clearly the darker, aggressive type with a penchant for face masks and intense aura. Love it!

    • I love DW version of TSJ, he brought to life my fav character in LYF. Looking forward to his new role. The novel isn’t anything special by all accounts but the scriptwriter and production are good, so let’s hope they can elevate the source material to something amazing.

      • He act well even when he is sleeping/ coma! Hater! Must be a certain violent character fan!

      • @Anon

Lmfao seriously will you stans quit it with this idiotic word? He is an actor and I hate to break it to you but his entire career, no matter how short, will be filled with people evaluating his acting.

And his acting isn’t good. Deal with it. Crowd fund some money for your fave to take acting classes.

      • @Gennita lol Anon is a hypocrite, she throws around the word “hater” if it’s her fave being (rightfully) criticized, but she’s always on this site talking sh*t about Zhao Lusi lmao, SHE is the real hater and it’s funny that she doesn’t see the irony of her comment 😂

    • Yup. I’m a hater. #eyeroll I swear no one can make fun of anyone any more without rabid fans jumping around like mindless frogs. Dude, no matter what I say, the actor still makes millions of dollars, so it’s okay. Calm down.

    • Yes, I’m a hater. #eyeroll I swear no one can make fun of anything without a rabid fan jumping in like a mindless frog. Dude, no matter what I say, the actor still makes millions of dollars. Calm down. It’s all tongue-in-cheek.

  1. White Tofu (Wallace Huo) from Chinese Paladin 3 would have been the best Tushan Jing in my opinion. When I read the book, that’s what I pictured. I couldn’t click with Deng Wei because he felt too frozen in his facial expressions. He would have been great as Xiang Liu. But Tan Jiang Ci did such a great job as Xiang Liu it is hard to imagine someone else.

  2. Did you not watch miss the dragon? DW would have done great as Xiang Liu. The question is can TJC act as TSJ and get the same response? I THINK Not!

  3. DW is good looking and he can acts decently, better than some liuliang. He is mesmerizing to watch as a man with great turmoils inside. As a trained dancer his fight scenes are always amazing. He has good prospect.

  4. I always think he might have done something on his face, e.g., nose, lips, and jaw or chin. He looks ok when expressionless but really weird when speaking or smiling moving his mouth and jawline.

I watched about 10 eps of LYF and dropped the series. Only ZWY’s acting is not forgettable to me, specifically his character’s relation with the heroine. The other two MLs are mehhhhh..

No hate! Just speaking of my personal opinion based upon very limited watching experience of the actors. I’m basically indifferent to all of them.

    • Of course he has done something, you can see that with him and a few other younger actors. They can’t smile widely for this very reason.

    • All of them had very obvious work done. I could just see who had their face shaved, chin implants, fillers, corner of the lips stapled, etc. Maybe Deng Wei bothered me the most because I was a Ye Shi Qi fan in the book, and I couldn’t warm up to him in the drama, and his celebrity disease scrutiny on Weibo just rubbed me wrong. On a side note: I am not against plastic surgery if it’s done right and doesn’t look like a plastic monster. Ariel Lin has the best plastic surgery outcome, I love her new look.

      • Ariel Lin has done PS? I thought she’s natural. Aw a bit disappointed. Her face is very identifiable though, unlike a prototype of PS.

    • @Somebody Tan Jian Ci was great, his acting was stronger than Zhang Wang Yi who is also a good actor. That is why he has the most popular and discussed character in the drama. But you only got to episode ten and there is nothing special to see yet in the characters. Until episode ten Tan Jian Ci’s character is basically the typical cold demon with few facial expressions lol.

There are images of Deng Wei when he was a student and there is no difference, although he looked better in Miss The Dragon because he had more weight and his features were more harmonious.

Besides Ariel Lin, for me, the best plastic surgery is done by Xiao Zhan and Ju Jing Yi. Their facial structure is completely different from the one they had before entering the entertainment world.

  5. I actually fell in love with his actor when he played a dark character (2nd lead couple) in Miss the Dragon. I found the story arch for the 2nd couple a lot more interesting than the lead couple and just loved him in it.

While I do like Jing, who is sweet, in Miss the Dragon he was just great.
