Dilraba Dilmurat Goes for Striking Canary Yellow Embroidered Gown and Sky High Hair at the 2023 Elle Style Awards to Mixed Reception

I am appreciate of the C-actresses for always being willing to go strong and risky with their red carpet gowns so even when it doesn’t work at least they tried and it’s memorable. Dilraba Dilmurat attended the 2023 Elle Style Awards this weekend in a pure yellow embroidered strapless satin column gown with matching balloon sleeve coat combo that would be just meh but went to full nonono for me when she paired it with a huge Ariana Grande level top heavy braided pony tail. She looks like an avante garde deconstructed Oriental inspired Big Bird as a dress. I think any one statement item in this look could work but not all together.

  1. Alot of comments I read were singing her praises lol. I give her credit for trying out this bold yellow dress which didn’t look too bad until she paired it with that extreme hairdo. Like the outfit itself was already screaming look at me and really bright and flashy so her hair should have been down and simple.

  2. If Reba went for a simple slicked back bun or ponytail she would look much more elegant and classy. The dress is a lot to take in and her hair also screams for attention so it looks too OTT and a lot to take in. But theatrical styling is good, she reminds me of Fan Bingbing and could make a 2nd career being a red carpet fixture in Europe or China.

    • Fan Bingbing came to mind too…but her head-do was complementary to the whole look. Fan Bingbing carried the dress very well. I think Fan Bingbing’s more curvaceous figure really made a difference…

  3. I don’t know how anyone could like this overall look and styling. Only a die-hard fan would defend this. It’s a total miss.

  4. A little excessive yes

But better this visual, than the insipid bad taste blah-boring outfits at Korean events. Or the frilly tacky frothy birthday cakes, and dated matronly outfits (I like SHK but some of her hairstyles/outfits can be much improved on, to better enhance her beauty, rather than wash out underwhelm.

  6. Honestly as a Chinese I don’t really like Miss Sohee’s style, she’s too OTT and costume-y, bordering on tacky, but the western market loves her. Since the comparisons with FBB have been unavoidable, Christopher Bu is a lot more nuanced in his style, which makes FBB’s looks throughout the years work – elegant with the right amount of flamboyance. In the same way I didn’t like Rihanna’s yellow Met look either, just a little too much. Guo Pei is typically a lot more refined than that, however the artistry behind it is undeniable.

    • I do like a number of Guo Pei’s design…but this dress just does not do much for me… Maybe is the shade of yellow… Or Dilraba is too slim to carry the dress… Definitely not one of Guo Pei’s masterpiece.

      • Reba’s dress is by Miss Sohee. Definitely not Guo Pei’s style lol. Rihanna’s omelette cape was more Rihanna than Guo Pei too.

      • @Guest, I just googled and saw the exact same dress on a model on her website. Yes, this is not Gou Pei’s design… Definitely not as refine as Gou Pei. I find some of the colours she use is just too harsh.
There is a only afew pieces I find very good. I like Gou Pei’s design and style more.

  7. Dilreba’s styling confirms my thoughts about Yu Shuxin’s looks at the Paris Fashion Week. The dress itself wasn’t bad but the hair style could have been better.

    • I just watched Sohee Fashion show 2023…her model did have a similar hairdo with the dress. I guess they must have decided to follow the styling on Dilreba.
