The first posters are out for MBC sageuk Night Blooming Flower and oh my gosh it’s just so artistically done. Starring Honey Lee and Lee Jong Won, the two are framed in light and darkness showcasing duality and depth. She’s an older widow of a respectable family but in her nighttime secret life she ventures out to help people incognito. He’s an inspector that grows to assist her and obviously will be her love interest and it’s interesting to see a sageuk take on the noona-dongsaeng romance trend so popular in modern K-dramas in the last decade.
I never understood by her ex-boyfriend and her broke up. But I am happy she is married to one that will treasure her. Looking forward to her new drama!
It was because Yoon Kye Sang didn’t want to marry her despite being together so long. Then he went on to marry a much younger girl when they dated for a year. Lol men, they know by a year or two of they want marriage. It was selfish of him to went on dating ber that long and stringing her along.
His wife is also the same age as Lee Honey though.
So glad she got out.

Your comment is utter BS. Yoon Kye Sang’s wife isn’t much younger than him (and if she were, so what? He’s not living his life to please bitter internet strangers) and why are you taking agency away from Honey Lee? She is a successful actress from a very prominent family. If she wanted marriage and he didn’t, she would have left him earlier.
It’s amazing how this new generation still manages to infantilize grown 40+ women. A man always has to be at fault no matter what women do! It’s sickening.
Honey Lee was also married and pregnant within a year and a half of their breakup.

Noona-dongsaeng dramas are so tired and played out. It’s sad that even sageuk is succumbing to it.
Let’s be real, the only reason this is a thing is because the best Korean actors don’t do dramas and the industry has utterly failed to find bankable young actresses. That’s it.
More like the industry failed to produce bankable young ACTORS. It’s clear that popular veteran actors are not willing to play second fiddle to popular veteran female actresses, that’s why we’re seeing all those noona romances with male leads that I wouldn’t even consider as “rising stars.”
I can name quite a few bankable young female stars born in the 90s: Kim Go Eun, Park Eun Bin, Park Shin Hye, Suzy, IU, Kim Tae Ri, Han So Hee, Yoona, Go Youn Jung, Kim Ji Won, Park Bo Young, etc.
On the other hand, I can only name Park Bo Gum (and maybe Kyungsoo) in terms of an actor who has had at least one highly-rated project and brings in advertisers/investment. Cha Eun Woo is extremely popular, but he has no ratings hits or critically-acclaimed roles.
Of your list of actresses – the majority are 30+ and are now veterans themselves. Where are the actresses in their 20s other than Han So Hee, Go Yoon Jung, and Kim Se Jung? Actors in their 20s have absolutely zero problem getting lead roles, seemingly – even if they have no critical acclaim or hits, they somehow seem to keep working consistently year after year in lead roles!
Rowoon and Song Kang are both two of the worst actors I have EVER seen and they have multiple lead roles whereas even Han So Hee took years to get lead roles!!!
I don’t think it’s unfair to say that young actresses have way more hoops to jump to get lead roles and also don’t get the same opportunity to fail & grow.
Your comment was on “bankability” in Korea. I don’t know why you’re swerving your argument to “ease of getting lead roles.” Rowoon and Song Kang are not seen as “bankable” in Korea. They are being casted because of their idol and overseas fandoms (especially Song Kang who is Netflix’s Korean IT boy). It’s the same reason BlackPink Jisoo is being casted in lead roles, with 2 projects currently in the making.
I agree that it much harder for actresses in the industry. However, the doesn’t change the fact that you still can’t name for me as many young bankable actors born in the 90s LOL.
Actors born in the 80s had STAR FACTOR. Hyun Bin, Gang Dong Won, Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Min Ho, Park Seo Jun, Lee Jong Suk, Song Joong Ki, etc. They were capable of bringing in ratings + were top CF darlings that brought in huge investment. Among the 90s actors, only Park Bo Gum can do that.
I’d be more worried about the state of their male stars seeing as the other popular ones like Cha Eun Woo, Song Kang, Rowoon, Ahn Hyo Seop can’t act for shit and don’t bring in ratings. At least the female stars that I mentioned + Kim So Hyun, Kim Yoo Jung, Park Gyu Young, Go Min Si, Seol In Ah, Kim Dami, etc can act.
I like the noona-dongsaeng KDrama trend so that I can have fun watching Rina here keep crying and seething about these dramas 😂😂😂

I was just talking about Lee Ha Ni yesterday with a Korean friend, specifically about how she graduated from SNU with a degree in Korean classical music and how much I enjoyed her gayageum playing. It would be great if she got to show that off in this Drama.

It’s honey lee second work after marriage. Park shin ye is also going drama. Gong yo jin is doing drama with lee min ho. Jang nara is shooting for one drama. Lee young le, ji sung’s wife, mi ran….. and many more……

Some actress do suffer, majority don’t . Mostly actress in supporting role but, in rare cases well established actress.
Same which can happen with male actors. Majority don’t suffer but some do. Mostly supporting actors. One biggest example is cha tae Hyun. He used to be male lead. Now u can see him in less than average projects and even in supporting roles or short roles.
Cha Tae Hyun has been married for a LONG time and absolutely does get lead roles.
Marriage has zero impact on the desirability of male actors but definitely can knock women down the rankings. Park Shin Hye is a big enough star to overcome this. The rest are benefiting from the fact that the industry has done an appalling job at giving opportunities to young actresses. I’m glad they’re making hay while the sun shines.
If being an actor is considered as a job, what matters is getting roles ( lead, second , supporting roles) , if one can’t accept that when popularity leaves , he is not a professional . That’s what said a great actor who played various roles until his death . So if Chae tae Hyun takes roles without minding being a lead role anymore , i say Bravo ,it’s a real artist who just want to work in his field . Now if an actor is lucky enough to have the choice, good for him . But i don’t criticize the ones who aren’t popular anymore and accept to not to be in the light .
