First Preview for Investigation Period C-drama Guardians of the Dafeng with Dylan is a Love it or Hate it Proposition

The first trailer is out for Guardians of the Dafeng and I….I just can’t with this. It’s so absurd and not in an immediately endearing way, though I get what it’s going for. This drama preview has the tone of a classic Stephen Chow “mo lei tau” slapstick over-the-top physical ridiculousness written all over it, so you’re either going to laugh out loud or go WTF did I just watch. Dylan Wang seems to be having fun though and he picked this script right after the success of Love Between Fairy and Devil so it must have appealed to him. I don’t know if the entire drama will have this tone and my guess is not, the preview is likely edited in a way to showcase the comedic elements of the drama.

  1. So cute!!! Dylan may not a great actor but he has strong screen presence. He definitely look like he is having fun filming this. Who knows it may be his best work… This drama looks fun to watch. I hope there is no romance but that is not likely..

  3. I’m definitely checking this out.
I like both Dylan and TXW for their fun and ‘lively’ acting.
I hope this release soon as we need some fun to end the year with.

  4. His vocal tone is actually perfect for this. I love nonsensical stuff like this and haven’t really seen any since the last detective chinatown instalment so will definitely check this out.

  5. Ahhhhhh!!!
Looks like a lot of laughs.
It looks better than the other drama he did so I will look forward to this.
I love seeing DiDi laugh out loud.

  6. Whether it’s a good drama or not, his fangirls will definitely make sure to put him on top of VLinkage hot index. LOL. That’s case for Only for Love.

Not a fan of the FL. I found her acting a bit corny although her visuals are sweet. But I’ll check all Dylan Wang’s works and see if plots are good enough for me to watch.

  7. I will take this as an “in-your-face” moment, like WHD is saying something like “well, this is me, this is how I sound, this is having fun and if you don’t like it get off”.
However, I did notice Liu Yi Jun is also in it (my guess, as the villain), so I feel pretty reassured.

  8. I like it! It’s been a while since I rofl-ing like Stephen Chow comedy style (I still remember how hilarious the likes of From Beijing with Love, God of Cookery, the spoof God of Gambler, Fight Back to School series, even the more recent Shaolin Soccer). Totally will check it out!

  9. That’s my man. I’ve never been let down in any
Of his roles. Love his acting. He was born to do this. I am anxious to see this movie. Hooray.

  10. I absolutely loved the trailer! For anyone who’s wondering, the premise of the drama is a modern day man gets transmigrated to ancient China. The original novel definitely had bits of humor in it – there’s a bit of a fish out of water element. I think the role fits Dylan so well and he finally gets a chance to do some comedy. I’ll definitely be checking this drama out.
