So this is basically a done deal unless something drastic happens, the pairing and the scheduling both work well. A new Tencent produced C-drama is kicking off pre-production called Kill My Sins (Chinese title Zhang Xin 掌心 Palm of the Hand). It’s a big S-level female lead top billed drama and will star Liu Shi Shi who goes into filming this after she wraps Fox Spirit Matchmaker the Zhu Ye chapter. The male lead role was reportedly being contested between Xu Kai and Deng Wei and has landed with the latter, with Deng Wei opening up his schedule for this after his currently filming drama Love of the Divine Tree finishes shooting. I’m assuming C-dramas filmed this year in 2024 will be earliest released in 2025 so put this on the far out calendar to expect.

I’m not sure about this pairing even if I like both of them. Liu Shi Shi does look young but I think she will pair better with an older actor. I wish Liu Xue Yi would have more projects. He would be great here with LSS.

@panda-eyes, I think LXY a better choice, both visually and acting-wise than Deng Wei. I honestly don’t get the hype and obsession over DW after Lost You Forever. I watched 20-21 eps of LYF and dropped. DW had done absolutely nothing to me in those eps. The other two MLs had stronger presence than DW.
I think there are so many actors with cosmetic procedures done that it is beginning to look natural to some…
I too think Deng Wei looks plastic…just as one of the C-actress I like, YangZi is definitely plastic looking.. The sharp jaw line, structured nose, super whitened skin, along with others… Such is the new norm… Industry standards must be met, I guess.
But as long as their dramas are entertaining to watch, I will just close one eye… and enjoy the production.

I gotta agree with this. I watched him in TTEOM and he was so bland. He looks so good standing still, but even when he talks normally, his jaws and mouth looks weirdly distrating to me, I guess that’s why he kept the expressions to a minimum. I actually felt frustrated for him as his Second Lead part has so much potential, and he looks so good in character.
It’s because they cut so many of his scenes and make his character less interesting. He looks so good in Til The End of the Moon!

Wow! Looks like Deng Wei is not well liked as much. His acting is good and he has the height; at least he doesn’t do a poor job at acting but he hasn’t had a role that can make you go wow, I’m a fan now! I always thought he looks older than his age though. I felt like AJTL was always a FL+ML story, but the production team had to come out saying it was a FL centric drama and top billed LSS because they were afraid of the backlash. Thankfully LSS only cared about the character and the success of AJTL as a whole so she was humble throughout the ordeal.

These type of roles should be left for the younger actresses! I tried to watch her new drama with Liu Yu Ning, sorry the two of them did not have chemistry and she did appear older than him. i still dunno to wish Shi Shi have or have not picken up this drama as this drama is not a high production (not S+ DRAMA) The budget for this drama is not even huge. After hiring Shi Shi, the male lead buget will be low becoz She is a S+ actress in China. Shi Shi alr have her own upcoming S+ tier drama coming in 2024 which is Fox spirt matchmaker. But if she still deicde to pick up this drama, i will still support her as her acting is good. ~

All these comments about the actress being older. Sigh. I have no words. Lin Shen is almost 20 years older than Zhao Lusi in Dating in the Kitchen. I don’t feel like poeple make a fuss about that. I don’t know the story, but maybe the role calls for an older female? Liu Shishi honestly looks great still. Deng Wei also has a mature enough face, where I feel like he’ll pair fine next to her.

I’ve seen others suggest it as dramas to watch for Zhao Lusi’s and no one says anything about it. There are so many gross age gaps where the male lead is way older, but are all beloved dramas. I pretty much skipped all the scenes with Goblin and his bride. I couldn’t even bring myself to watch Mr. Sunshine. Jerry Yan’s last two dramas also had huge age gaps. In the post for Count Your Lucky Stars, while there are a couple of people who found the 20 year age gap gross, most people just made comments about how “youthful” looking Jerry Yan is. The double standard is real.
I agree they should pair up actors appropriately. I don’t know why the older actors and older actress not get pair together. Why so many dramas with older actress and younger guy. I didn’t watch the drama with Jerry Yan and Zhao Lusi, not interested in older man and younger woman story either.

Esther Yu acting cannot make it. Glad that she was edges out. Rooting for Shi Shi that have a way better acting. I still dunno if Shi Shi should even pick up this work as the production budget of this drama is not huge and is just a normal production show (not S+ drama) . After hiring Shi Shi, the production budget for meal lead will be even lower.
